CREDIT CERTIFICATES CERTIFICATE IN ADULT EDUCATION Gain skills to teach and train adults. The Faculty of Education offers degree credit courses leading to a Certificate in Adult Education (CAE). The CAE is designed to provide participants with a stand-alone certificate or the first step towards a Bachelor of Education in Adult Education degree. Learn more about Certificate in Adult Education APPLIED BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS (ABA) CERTIFICATE The first program of its kind in Atlantic Canada that meets the coursework requirements needed to apply to write the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board®, Inc. (BACB®) Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analyst® (BCaBA®) examination. Students can complete the certificate along with their undergrad program. Upon successful completion of this program you may be eligible to apply to write the exam to become certified. BCaBA® certification graduates are highly sought after by employers. FEATURED UNDERGRADUATE COURSES DIGITAL LOGIC DESIGN (ECE 2214) An introductory course to practical aspects of digital system design. The course covers digital logic design, including basic design concepts and implementation technology, number representation, synthesis of combinational and sequential logic, and the use of HDL and computer-based tools. Prerequisite: CS 1003 or CS 1073 or equivalent. Recommended ECE 1813. Co-requisite: ECE 2215. DIGITAL LOGIC DESIGN LABORATORY (ECE 2215) This is an introductory course to practical aspects of digital system design. Course includes the design of digital circuits with CAD tools and VHDL hardware description language. Prerequisite: CS 1003 or CS 1073 or equivalent. Recommended ECE 1813. Co-requisite: ECE 2214, ED 3114 - Intro to Workplace Learning INTRODUCTION TO WORKPLACE LEARNING (ED 3114) Designed to provide learners with an appreciation of the origins and trends in workplace learning. The course will examine the workplace as a learning environment. Various approaches to adult learning within the changing context of work will be examined. ADULT EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (ED 5157) This course will explore the theory and practice of community involvement. The course will look at individual, group and organizational contributions to community development. We will consider local, national, and international examples to help us better understand the various aspects of community development. (Offered every other year). FEATURED UNDERGRADUATE COURSES TRUTH & RECONCILIATION IN CANADA:WORKING TO OVERCOME THE LEGACY OF RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS (HIST 3374) Situating the truth and reconciliation in process in Canada within similar efforts in other countries such as Rwanda and South Africa, this course focuses on the work of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission to bring to light the nature and extent of the policies aimed at promoting the assimilation of Indigenous peoples into the Canadian settler society since the mid-19th century - particularly through the residential schools - and the varied and often harmful impact that these policies have had. The course also examines the diversity of reactions to the work of the commission, the extent of the success in implementing the commission's 94 "Calls to Action", and the potential of these Calls to Action to meet the challenges currently facing Indigenous People in Canada. OCCUPATIONAL BIOMECHANICS (KIN 4161) Examine topics in applied ergonomics and occupational biomechanics. Learn about ergonomic assessment tools and current research directives in the area of occupational biomechanics and prevention of workplace musculoskeletal injuries. You will develop skills required to identify occupational ergonomic concerns, perform biomechanical analyses of musculoskeletal demands and modify work tasks to reduce musculoskeletal demands will be emphasized through practical experiences. Prerequisites: KIN 2062 and KIN 3161, or consent of the instructor. MUSIC OF THE WORLD (MUS 1002) This course allows students to develop an understanding of world cultures through the musical traditions and habits of people in different parts of the globe. Students will investigate the development and historical background of world music traditions and the typical musical instruments and representative musicians in various regions. Students are also encouraged to develop their perspective on the relationship between music and society. Normality this course is taught on-line. No prerequisite.
