Happy New Year - May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door! We made it to 2021, everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season & were able to spend time with loved ones and take a break. Here at Team BBBSCI, we are back and ready for a new year filled with fun memories for our Bigs, Littles, and Families. Please read through the first newsletter of 2021 to learn about some great initiatives & resources being offered in the state & local communities. Included in this month’s newsletter are resources on the COVID-19 Vaccine, BBBSCI Scholarships, 21st Century Scholars information, as well as unemployment insurance & employment opportunities throughout Indiana. COVID-19 VACCINE INFORMATION: • Indiana Department of Health: COVID-19 Vaccine General Information - The COVID-19 Vaccination has arrived in Indiana. While hope is on the horizon with this vaccine, there are still many unanswered questions that are leaving people unsure about where, what, and how to get the vaccine. BBBSCI SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION – 2021 GRADUATING LITTLES: • BBBSCI Scholarship Application for Littles Graduating in 2021– We are excited to share with you the opening of our 2021 “Be Big” Scholarship Application, exclusive to the special cohort of Littles graduating from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana in 2021! This year, we are proud to offer nine college scholarships exclusively for Littles graduating our program in 2021. The scholarships range from $500-$5000. These scholarships are awarded to select Littles based on two rounds of an application process. All BBBSCI graduating Littles who are eligible are invited to submit the Round 1 Intention Packets by February 5, 2021. If selected to move to Round 2, you will be notified on February 12, 2021. Full Applications require additional documents like transcripts, letter of recommendation and a nomination from the Big. The final deadline for Round 2 Full Applications is March 8, 2021. Recipients are selected by a Scholarship Committee composed of community leaders and BBBSCI Board members. Applications are judged on application thoroughness, demonstrated need, as well as youth who excel in the areas of academic achievement, personal growth, leadership, and character. Award notifications will be emailed out on April 19, 2021. Please reach out to Jblack@bbbsci.org for any questions regarding our scholarship process. 21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS ELGIBILITY & INFORMATION: • Is Your Child Eligible to be a 21st Century Scholar? – The 21st Century Scholars program began in 1990 as an early-college promise program designed to help ensure every Hoosier can afford the opportunity to a college education. VIRTUAL COLLEGE FAIRS: • Virtual College Fairs through National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) – As our world continues to progress in an ever-virtual world, consider attending these upcoming Virtual College Fairs with your high school age students put on through the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. More than 100,000 students attended these virtual events last fall, enabling them to drop in on live Zoom sessions offered by hundreds of colleges on a single day.
