Year 1 Home Learning Week beginning: 1st February 2021. Hello Year One, The introduction of Seesaw this week has provided an increased opportunity for us to be able to interact with your home learning activities. We have enjoyed receiving all your posts throughout the week, please continue to encourage your child to engage with this resource. In English this week, we are continuing our unit on traditional tales with a twist. There are some mini handwriting activities on Seesaw, ask your child to complete one a day to support the development of their handwriting. Please use the lined paper in your English home learning books and after just a few days we should begin to see an improvement in letter formation. I will include the new letter rhymes in these mini sessions to help. In mathematics we are continuing to develop our use of known number facts or number bonds. These will help as we move onto looking at larger numbers. We have seen some excellent thinking taking place in our maths sessions and children have been using Seesaw to attempt any corrections that we have sent back. The recording function is great for showing your child working through the steps. Please do continue to explore the different ways you can send a response to an activity through Seesaw. Thank you to everyone who supported our first ‘reading at home’ sessions. It was lovely to be able to begin the process of understanding where your child is in their reading journey. Please keep a look out for the email with details of your provisional day and time for your next reading session. As we continue with home schooling for a little while longer, it would be useful to see any additional reading that is taking place at home. You can send a short video of your child reading from their school book, a book from home or a book from Bug Club. Bug Club book allocations have been updated this term. Being able to read is key to opening up the wider curriculum for children. It also makes a big impact on pupil confidence, as children often develop more independence when they feel confident with reading. There are so many things for a child to read in school during the day, any steps that we can take now to keep progress moving would be very beneficial. If you would like to speak to me about anything to do with your child’s education or well-being, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the class email. For any urgent matters please contact the school office. Stay safe everyone – Miss Liver and Mrs Gorry For our daily phonics activities, you should have received an email letting you know which group your child is in.
