Protected B People experiencing homelessness suffer disproportionately from the epidemic and containment measures. Though some communities have moved quickly to open Public Safety: new shelters, people experiencing homelessness remain especially vulnerable. Homelessness • Self-isolation is challenging for those who use shelters and foodbanks. Issue 4 • Shelters unable to accommodate social distancing have moved, closed or reduced occupancy. • Food banks are running low on supplies. • Shopping malls, libraries and public spaces are closed. Many have no safe place to go during the day. • People experiencing homelessness suffer disproportionally from pre-existing health conditions. • Many AA and NA meetings are canceled. • Needle exchanges have reduced hours or closed. • Specialized clinics and services have closed or reduced hours. 4
