Recommendations: Short Term Response Provide a combination of cash and food support to improve food and housing security ◦ Continue food distribution (dry food encouraged by community leaders) ◦ Cash support should be given physically as mobile ownership is limited (approx. 2/3) across sites Immediate COVID-19 responses are required ◦ Target communities where potential outbreaks identified ◦ Develop referral mechanisms to facilitate access to free COVID-19 health care (including testing and tele-health) ◦ Develop awareness programs and community-based solutions to care as a high priority. ◦ Provision of hygiene packages (soap and masks) and handwashing stations to prevent further outbreaks Continue providing wellbeing check-ins from field staff ◦ Field staff should be trained by MHT to refer more cases where additional mental health support required.
Recommendations: Long term response Work with families to develop sustainable livelihoods ◦ Prioritise job linkage support for main income earner who has lost/reduced income source(s) ◦ Upskilling/providing linkages for additional household members to diversify income sources ◦ Developing skills / providing grants to community members with business experience (lost business/capital) Link Families with Social Safety Nets ◦ Obtaining formal documentation and listing with local government may assist to protect against future shocks/lockdowns ◦ Social Safety Net Cash Transfers are a dependable source of income Incorporate COVID-19 into long term health programs ◦ Roll out vaccine registration program across SUEPP sites as a high priority ◦ Health insurance should cover COVID-19 testing and medical care ◦ SUEPP to work to improve health literacy (knowledge and understanding of health and how to navigate health system) – especially community member with co-morbidities at increased risk for COVID.
