Priorities for School Year 2021-2022 • Support the reopening of schools and institutions • Ensure program access for children • Increase funding for program operators • Provide operational flexibility • Promote nutritious meals
Increase Access and Funding: SSO & Area Eligibility • Allow schools to serve meals through the Seamless Summer Option • Provide the higher Summer Food Service Program reimbursement rate • Flexibility for area eligibility: • NSLP afterschool snacks • CACFP afterschool meals & snacks • CACFP day care home tiering • Available July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022
Promote Operational Flexibility •Non-congregate meals* •Meal time flexibility* •Parent/guardian pick-up* •Offer versus serve flexibility *Local operators should use these waivers only for the duration and extent needed
Targeted School Meal Pattern Flexibility • Schools may request targeted flexibility for select requirements: • Sodium • Whole grain-rich • Vegetable subgroups • Milk variety • Low-fat milk must be unflavored • Age/grade groups • States must consider approval on a case-by-case basis (except sodium) • Effective October 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022
Targeted CACFP Meal Pattern Flexibility • CACFP operators may request targeted meal pattern flexibility for select requirements: • One serving of grains per day must be whole grain-rich • Crediting of grains by ounce equivalents by October 1, 2021 • Low-fat milk must be unflavored • States must consider approval on a case-by-case basis
Community Eligibility Provision • Schools may elect CEP using SY 2020-2021 data through September 30, 2021 • May use cumulative student data through June 30, 2021 • Schools may begin direct certification for SY 2021-2022 on July 1, 2021 • Schools may recalculate their identified student percentage any year in the CEP cycle
