“There is a divine beauty in learning …
To learn means to accept the postulate
that life did not begin at my birth.
Others have been here before me
and I walk in their footsteps”

SPECIAL MESSAGE TO PRINCIPALS
Yesterday afternoon, an email entitled CECV Special Message: Update on the coronavirus outbreak, no. 28:
Attendance Recording was sent to all Principals. This CECV Special Message covered these topics:

     Attendance monitoring
 Students at risk planning tool
     Hand sanitiser availability
     Physical distancing guidelines
 Update on SIM card and cellular modem provision
     Translated remote learning resources
     Onsite attendance communication.

The Minister for Education & Training, James Merlino, has directed the VRQA to relax its strict policy
regarding the marking of attendance rolls twice each day.

In the direction, the VRQA is to refrain from reviewing or evaluating school compliance with the prescribed
minimum standard for monitoring and recording student attendance twice a day.

The ministerial direction also directs the VRQA to refrain from pursuing a principal or person in charge of a
registered school for non-compliance with section 4.3.7 of the Education and Training Reform Act. Under this
section, it is an offence if attendance is not recorded in the attendance register in accordance with the
minimum standard.

Recognising that remote learning may create challenges for schools, the ministerial direction affords schools
some flexibility, so that schools may choose to monitor attendance once a day, rather than twice a day. In
transitioning to remote learning schools will need continue to ensure the care, safety and welfare of their
students, including child safety and the different risks posed in an online environment. Schools should also
consider the duty of care owed to students and that different and sometimes greater measures may need to
be taken for younger students or students with disabilities. CLICK HERE
ONSITE STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Thank you to all who uploaded their attendance yesterday. We will continue to assess onsite attendance
figures and we are grateful for your support in this regard.

We would be grateful if the attached Google document (CLICK HERE) could be completed and uploaded to
CES by 3pm each school day.

HAND SANITISER
Deliveries of the Hand Sanitiser will take place this week to schools who placed an order with Mark White
(Operational Services Manager). Although the hand sanitiser comes at a considerable cost, it is a vital tool in
our fight against infection from Coronavirus, ensuring that our schools are well equipped to provide the
proper hygiene practices during this pandemic.

AccessEAP – MESSAGE & NEW RESOURCE
Although our new lives of physical distancing and restrictions are challenging, it is incredible how quickly we
can adapt. We have been uplifted by messages from you on how you are building our wellbeing and mental
health initiatives into everyday work practices in your organisations and looking out for each other. It is
always heartening to see Australians pull together to do their part in helping to ease the burden on our
primary healthcare services.

We have released a new webinar for staff on Coping with COVID-19. This webinar has been uploaded and is
available to view right now. You can access the video under COVID-19 SUPPORT in our Employee Login Area.
Please note, employees will be required to sign in to access the Login Area. At this stage, we don't plan on
reporting on this data, so that we can ensure the confidentiality of your people who access and watch the
video. However, we will use our internal data to look for insights on creating new content for your people.

Dear Principals today you will receive a technology survey from Grant Fitzgerald and David Williams. The
purpose of the survey is for Catholic Education Office Sandhurst staff to gather data and insight into what
our primary and secondary schools are doing and how you are supporting teachers, students and parents
during this period of remote and flexible learning. All data is confidential and will assist CEO staff to develop
professional learning and resources to best support the needs of our schools.

I ask that you please complete the survey before COB Monday the 20th of April. You may also be asked to

Sandhurst Youth Ministry Morning Prayer
To help everyone get their day started while working and studying from home, Sandhurst Youth Ministry will
be posting weekday Morning Prayer videos at 8:30am starting on Monday 20th April. We will be using a range
of prayer styles offering young people the chance to pray in different ways each morning. Videos will be
posted on the SYM Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages.

We encourage you to share them with your school communities. As we get set up, we’re hoping to invite
different people to be involved in the creation and filming of these videos. There will be opportunities for
student leaders, trainees and younger teachers to help out. SYM generally works with those 15-30 years old,
although we are hoping the prayers will be accessible for those outside this age range. For more information
get in touch with Ruth: ruth.lawlor@sandhurst.catholic.org.au

SOMETHING UPON WHICH TO REFLECT
