FOREWORD The Continuing Professional Development and Formation Programme 2021 - 2022 provides a range of opportunities for those leading, working in and governing our diocesan schools. We aim to provide professional development that will enable staff and governors to better serve the mission of the Church through their role in education. Opportunities for personal formation are an integral part of this. I hope that staff and governors will take full advantage of the opportunities on offer. Deborah Fox Director of Education ‘I am among you as one who serves’ Luke 22:27 Foreword

National Catholic Senior Leadership Programme For: primary/secondary aspiring headteachers and deputy headteachers This programme replaces the former aspiring primary and secondary deputy headteacher and headteacher courses. This year, the aspiring primary headteacher and deputy headteacher courses will continue to run. This is a new nationally recognised 2-year Catholic senior leadership programme which has been written by Catholic senior leaders from across the country. Some aspects are delivered in collaboration with our Catholic Education Trusts and with other dioceses. Applications will also be accepted from those in non-diocesan schools who are interested in teaching in a Catholic school. There are 5-strands to the programme: • Vision • Developing people • Developing a school • Accountability • Leading community It is assumed that most people will complete the programme over a 2-year period however, there is flexibility in consultation with the Diocesan Department for Education. Initial entry onto the programme is through a diocesan level reviewed self-assessment against the self-audit and evidence portfolio. Once the self-assessment has taken place the candidate will be advised as to whether all training units need to be completed or specific units. Each strand comprises of: • Pre-reading materials • ½ day sessions or twilights • Post Training Tasks that generate evidence for the portfolio The final assessment and validation will be carried out annually by a diocesan hub panel, with candidates presenting a portfolio of naturally occurring evidence. The panel will confirm all competencies are sufficiently evidenced or return the portfolio with the requirement to submit further evidence at the next sitting of the panel. Evidence will come from prior experience, current practice or through tasks completed during training. This is a nationally recognised programme which is certificated on behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales by the Catholic Education Service. A certificate will be issued on completion and the achievement celebrated at the Education Mass. Further information and dates of the courses will be available in the autumn term. Page 25
