The BEAT 22 February, 2019 Website: diepos.co.za NEWS |3 Elections 2019 fever has risen to higher levels TK Mashaba Political parties from across the Waterberg are on higher gear campaigning for the May general elections. Minibus loads of ANC members arrived back from the party’s manifesto launch in Thohoyandou last weekend, while back home the Economic Freedom Fighters criss-crossed the town of Bela-Bela with a motorcade of several vehicles. Inevitably, political turncoat, Paul Molekoa — who left the Tripartite Alliance to join the EFF — was central to the red beret’s campaign in the streets of downtown Bela-Bela and the township. Molekoa is a former chair of the Waterberg region of the Young Communist League. Last week the man told The BEAT the ANC — and by extension the Tripartite Alliance — did not resonate with his political thinking any longer. The Waterbnerg ANC chair, Morris Mataboge, said locals had joined several thousand others in Thohoyandou to listen to President Cyril Ramaphosa drum up his Thuma Mina (Send Me) rallying cry. He said going forward the ANC would hit the ground running engaging community-based structures, such as the ecumenical movement. The DA’s Frans Mothokwa said scores of party supporters were to be bussed to the main rally in Gauteng on Saturday 23 February, to listen to national leader Mmusi Maimane. He said locally the party had already “painted Bela-Bela blue” with DA posters. Bela-Bela Residents Association (BRA) secretary, Joseph Makhubela, said the party would continue with door-to-door campaigns, Political parties from across the spectrum are ready to nudge potential voters to go into action on 8 May.
