The Global Standard • Competency in the core principles – at each of the four levels – is demonstrated by achieving certification from the Global Communication Certification Council. • The Council plans to apply to the International Organization for Standardization (known as ISO) for approval of this certification program so that communicators, their clients, and other stakeholders can be confident the program is reliable. • Currently certification is available at the specialist/generalist level. What to say to ABCs • The CMP and ABC programs are very different • CMP is designed for people with 6-8 years of experience. ABC's generally are more senior (10+ years of experience) • Some cross-over in knowledge tested but there are differences • Success in attaining the ABC does not mean you'll attain the CMP • ABCs may prefer to wait for a future certification geared to people at the strategic advisor level • ABCs who still wish to pursue the CMP should speak with GCCC about discounted pricing Communication Management Professional Certification presentation at 2016 IABC Leadership Institute 18

Hosting CMP exams Lessons learned • Hosting the exam is the easy part. All you need is a location (member's office?) and two people (one male, one female). • Key to success is how you promote the program. – Recommend preparing a detailed communications plan well in advance – Use all of your chapter's communication vehicles – Consider working with other chapters in your region – people are travelling within regions to take the CMP exam Interested?
