    To understand the boldness required of
    Chris and Virginia Walker, who opened
    their family business in 1970, it is impor-
    tant to place that decision in its proper
    context. The 1970s was not a kind econ-
    omy. The combination of wage and price
    inflation, coupled with slow business
    growth, created a new term to describe
    a troubled economy: stagflation. As the
    pace of change quickened, the ability of
    large corporations and the US govern-
    ment to adjust diminished. This combi-
    nation created a ripe environment for
    entrepreneurs: Enter Chris and Virginia
    Walker.

task, particularly when the list of current supplier partners exceeds 400 names
