Chancellor’s Updates California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Update • Executive Order 2020-07 temporarily suspends title 5 regulations (5 Cal. Code Regs, §§ 55256.5, subd. (a), and subd. (c)(1) & (2)), allowing an expanded use of classroom instruction to fulfill the learning objectives of Cooperative Work Experience Education courses. • Temporarily alleviates the requirement to fulfill a specific number of work experience hours. • Instead, colleges should focus on fulfilling the learning objectives per title 5 (5 Cal. Code Regs, §§ 55256.5, subd. (b)): “the learning experience and the identified on-the-job learning objectives shall be sufficient to support the units to be awarded.” 8

Honors / PTK Virtual Celebration Chancellor’s On May 23, the COC Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa held their Updates first-ever virtual celebration. Highlights: • 54 Honors students are transferring to UCLA, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, Stanford, USC, Oregon State University, CSUN, CSULB, CSULA, Mount Saint Mary’s. • Over 30 new Phi Theta Kappa members were inducted. • New Officer Board for 2020-2021 was installed. • The Phi Theta Kappa chapter earned three awards this year: • Five Star Chapter • 2nd place on the Theme: Visions of Justice • 3rd place for most distinguished chapter member for Alyssa Delarosa’s contributions to the chapter and COC • Family members were in attendance at this Zoom celebration! 11

Chancellor’s Updates Upcoming Celebrations Nursing Graduation • The Nursing Graduation will occur virtually on Wednesday, June 3. • 60 out of 60 students will be graduating who have completed their clinical training and eligible to sit for the NCLEX examination. • As fourth semester students were required to complete 230 clinical hours, this was a challenge given the current COVID-19 pandemic. • Nursing students had the opportunity to safely conduct supervised COVID-19 testing on the COC campus in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with appropriate personal protective equipment. • Congratulations to Director Mary Corbett, Department Chair Anh Vo, and the rest of the Nursing faculty for their support of our Nursing graduates. 15
Upcoming Celebrations Chancellor’s Updates MLT Graduation • The MLT Certificate and Pining Ceremony will occur virtually on Thursday, June 4. • 13 out of 13 students will be graduating who have completed their clinical training and eligible for their MLT certificate. • 5 out of 13 students will receive the first Associate degree. • Congratulations to Hency Chu and the rest of the MLT faculty for their support of our MLT graduates. 16
Upcoming Celebrations Chancellor’s Updates MESA Graduation • 58 MESA graduates will be participating in a virtual celebration on Saturday, June 6. • The average GPA of this group, 3.48, is the highest GPA in MESA history. • 7 students are transferring to UC Berkeley, the most ever in MESA history for a graduating class. • 52% of MESA students are transferring with more than one degree. 17

LA County OKs Car Parade Celebrations Chancellor’s Updates Car parades are now allowed so that graduations, birthdays and other special days and achievements can be safely celebrated. • Car parades cannot include bicycles, motorcycles, convertibles with open tops, or vehicles with no doors (e.g. golf carts). • If any vehicle windows are open, occupants must wear face coverings. • Any organization coordinating a large-scale parade must have a designated organizational host who is responsible for ensuring compliance with the rules for the parade and adherence to the State’s Stay At Home Order that precludes gatherings. • Only those personnel of the organization necessary to facilitate the parade and to ensure compliance can be present at the location designated by the host. 23
LA County Oks Car Parade Celebrations Chancellor’s Updates The host must: • At its own cost, arrange for and provide security sufficient to ensure compliance with the State’s Order and address any traffic and safety issues. • Develop a parade plan that deals with State’s Order, traffic and safety issues, parade participants, and social distancing requirements. • Ensure adherence to face covering and physical distancing requirements. • The host may provide a significant document to one vehicle parade participant at a time, such as a diploma or other paper, while adhering to face covering and social distancing requirements. The parade must: • Take place in an outside location large enough to accommodate the social distancing requirements. • Proceed by the host’s invitation only, with the parade limit of vehicles tied to the capacity size of the location. • Not allow sales or exchanges of any items or food. 24
Chancellor’s Updates Los Angeles County Los Angeles County verified we always had approval to offer limited in-person instruction • County Counsel and Public Health reviewed our request for clarification to offer limited in-person instruction for specific programs. • Certain in-person laboratory/practicum instruction in fields directly related to training students to work in required Essential Infrastructure or Essential Government functions were allowed to do in-person training to the extent that practicum instruction cannot be completed via distance learning. • Practicums must be held in compliance with the County’s Social Distancing Protocol 25
Approval of Labs on Campus Chancellor’s Updates • EMT (HLHSCI 151) students returned to campus to complete the written portion of their coursework. • If they achieve an 80% or higher, they will be afforded the opportunity to also participate in their skills assessment. • Upon successful completion of the skills testing and course, students will qualify to take the National Registry EMT examination. • Pass rates on this particular exam for COC students have ranged from 84% to 91% from 2016 – 2019. • Thanks are extended to Patti Haley and SB Tucker for their remarkable work in leading our students to completion while supporting the next generation of first responders in support of our community. 26
Los Angeles County Reopening at Work and in the Community for Control of COVID-10 – Order dated May 26, 2020 Chancellor’s Updates • LA County is moving toward new standards for a swift and safe reopening in alignment with state guidelines. • Examples of activities now permitted under the changes enacted this week: o Faith-based organizations may resume services, with the number of congregants limited to less than 25% of the building’s capacity, or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is lower. o All retail, including those located in indoor and outdoor retail shopping centers may now open for business at 50% capacity. o Flea markets, swap meets and drive-in movie theaters may resume operations. o Pools, hot tubs and saunas that are in a multi-unit residence or part of a homeowners association may now open. • Physical distancing requirements, cloth face coverings and other safety protocols must be observed. • Gatherings of people not from the same household are still prohibited, except for faith-based services and in-person protests. 27

System Budget News Chancellor’s Updates Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF) SCFF Oversight Committee Update • May 22nd meeting • Finalized the survey to assess public safety ISAs being offered by colleges. • Requested the CCCCO to conduct the survey. • Decision to approve funding was unanimous, (1 abstained). The committee agrees (finally) to fully fund ISAs. 29

Economic Development Updates As the economy reopens, EDD is working to provide resources to support local companies. • ETI is delivering on-line, “remote” courses for the first time ever, and has been receiving very positive feedback from participants who are enjoying the new format. Courses include: SolidWorks, Advanced Mastercam, CNC Programming, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Advanced Excel, APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional, and Leadership Skills Development. • To accommodate work-from-home schedule, ETI is also offering shorter courses and addressing specific topics, including a Six Sigma DMAIC Workshop Series and Adapting Leadership Style In Times of Crisis Class. • Team SWAG is working with a number of stakeholders to develop accelerated training options for incumbent workers in the Aerospace industry. The training is expected to be available by September 2020. • Companies that have received PPP funding are facing a new challenge: Loan Forgiveness. Catherine Grooms and her team from the Small Business Development Center are providing guidance to local companies to assist them in converting their loans to awards, saving them tens of thousands of dollars. 31
Online Instructor Certification Human Resources Updates Faculty have done an AMAZING job participating in training that certified them to teach online!! Full Certification – 47 employees became fully certified to teach online since March! 1. Introduction to Online Instruction (36 hours) 2. Canvas (4 hours) 3. Section 508/Accessibility (1 hour) Provisional Certification – 56 employees earned provisional certification since March! 1.- Introduction to Teaching with Canvas (2 hours) 2. Highlights Grants Development Update • The Grants Development team is working hard to continue to acquire resources to support the College. • So far this fiscal year, the Grants Development office has brought in $11,738,327 in grant awards through extensive coordination with many offices and programs. • Recent grants included funds to support arts, advanced technology, MESA, OER, regional technical assistance, RISE, among other awards. • The team continues to hold monthly planning meetings open to interested staff on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 11am-12pm. • Please contact the Grants Development office for additional details. 39
Canvas Migrating to CanyonsID Information Technology Starting 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, we will be migrating Canvas to CanyonsID. • During the migration, Canvas will be unavailable from 11 a.m. until about 12 p.m. • An email will be sent out once the migration is complete. Benefits • Integrate the statewide student CCCID as required by the Chancellor’s Office. • Reduce usernames and passwords employees/students have to remember. What to expect after the change: • Login will occur through CanyonsID log in page instead of Canvas. • Canvas will look and operate the same. The change impacts how you access Canvas only. 40

Virtual Graduation Student Services Update Commencement 2020 will be held virtually to recognize the achievements of the Class of 2020. • The virtual ceremony will include slides of each graduate highlighting their degree(s) earned, any honor designations, congratulatory speeches from Dr. Van Hook, Dr. Rebecca Eikey, and a student speaker. • There will also be a special video created and produced by our very own Joseph Lanthier, that will focus on the graduates and will include a congratulatory element from the faculty. • The virtual ceremony will go live on June 5 at 7 p.m. (same date & time as the originally planned ceremony). 48
Virtual Graduation Student Services Update • Graduates, family, friends, and anyone will be able to view the ceremony for the next year any time after the virtual ceremony is posted. • Taping occurred last week and is continuing this week • Students have been submitting pictures to the vendor • Lawn signs are being distributed this week • We have communicated with the students via the website, canvas, and email. Student Services Update Counseling The Counseling department has made incredible strides over the last few weeks to give students multiple opportunities to meet with a counselor. • The counseling office was fully online starting March 20 and have the following options for students. o Counseling Appointments o Drop In Counseling § Using waiting rooms to “call” students into their zoom meeting § Multiple counselors on every hour from 9-6 M-Th, until 7 on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9-12 o eAdvising o Workshops o Canyons Connects o Counselors are using zoom and email to keep in touch with our students. • Check out the new Counseling office website at www.canyons.edu/Counseling for all the ways to connect with a counselor. 50

Hart District Survey Update Academic Affairs Updates • College of the Canyons is currently partnering with the William S. Hart Union High School District to survey graduating high school seniors to determine their plans for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester. • Recognizing that graduating seniors may defer their acceptances into 4-year colleges and universities in view of the uncertainties associated with COVID-19, we are working to determine their needs. • The survey asks a series of questions, including how many units they would take this Fall 2020 and subject areas of interest. • The goal is to determine what additional classes we may need to offer to help these students STAY ON THE PATH while supporting our local community. 56
