The Power of Connection: Connecting to one another has never been more important than it is now, especially for volunteers. Due to Covid, many volunteers in our healthcare organizations have been suspended since 2019. Volunteering, for many, is a way to stay connected. Through the Power of Connection conference, we will: Share best-practices. Network and connect. Share tools, resources, and inspiring stories. Share our successes and challenges Build relationships. Provide ongoing support and inspiration. Thank you from our collaborating partners and conference committee. This past year and a half has been very trying for everyone. A heartfelt thank you, to all the volunteers in healthcare, who have been patient, and who continue to give with their hearts. Your dedication to helping others is greatly appreciated. To the volunteer coordinators/managers/directors, thank you for your continued leadership and ability to connect with, and support your volunteers. I found that each of them was a S.T.A.R. and I uncovered the characteristics that led to their personal and professional success. 360 Degrees of Servant Leadership Presenter: Matt Anderson This form of leadership is effective because it can be cultivated at every level of the organization, from senior and middle management down to specialists and contract employees. This message explores the essential aspects of servant leadership, and the practical steps by which management can incorporate these principles into their mission, vision, and daily operations. Understanding Palliative Care Presenter: Wendy Molaska, MD, FAAFP Although we hear the terms Palliative and Hospice care frequently, they are often confusing and misunderstood. Breakout Sessions I 10:15 AM – 11:15 PM (choose one) No Home for the Humble: How volunteers and auxiliaries have pushed themselves to the edge… and some easily achievable steps we can take to demonstrate our immense value. Rob Toonkel Even before the pandemic struck, hospital auxiliaries were a struggling breed. The last 30 years have seen numerous auxiliaries eliminated, and numerous others are holding on as mere shells of what they were. When it comes to hospital volunteer programs, the pandemic sidelined them – some for weeks, others for months, and a handful permanently. How did we get here? Which innate characteristics of volunteers became liabilities when it came to survival? What mistakes have we made? And most importantly, what can we do to reverse the trend in respect, clout, and survival? How to Build Rapport and Win Respect Cindy Solberg Think of a time when you felt unable to connect with someone you were trying to talk to. What went wrong? Discover tips for building rapport quickly. Learn extra steps to take to gain others' respect and cultivate relationships. Resist, Persist, or Cease to Exist? Gift shop responses to COVID-19: Valuable lessons for shops of every size. Deb Anderson, Janene Riedeman The Pandemic changed the landscape of our lives in many ways, and most were very challenging. But it also taught us to focus on what is most important, and forced us to think creatively and be nimble in our businesses. We had to find new ways to protect our staff and volunteers, serve customers, source product, and still be profitable. Learn from a panel of seasoned experts who had a variety of experiences in how their organizations, and their gift shops, reacted to this unprecedented time. Page 6
