The Croydon High School Crail Award (Years 7-9) There are three levels of award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. In order to gain this award, a pupil of the school must attend co-curricular activities / clubs over the course of the school year covering each of the following areas: 1. Physical activity 2. Creative activity 3. General interest club 4. Plus three additional activities taken from any of the above Girls must participate in each club / activity stated above for a minimum of a term. To gain a Bronze Level Award, each girl must complete the necessary requirements over one year. For a Silver Level Award a second year must be completed. For the Gold Level Award, a third and final year must be completed including a further activity of ‘Volunteering’ in Year 9. This could include helping a member of staff or 6th form student to run a co-curricular activity. A minimum 75% attendance record is required for each activity. When making choices for activities, please take note of which areas you are working in as they will be recorded and signed off by Mrs Webb. These awards will be celebrated at Prize Giving in the Summer term. 3

CLUBS & SOCIETIES LGBTQ+ Club We welcome any students who identify as: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-Binary, Queer, Questioning their identity, or as allies to LGBTQ+ people. We act as a weekly regular space for discussion of LGBTQ+ issues, current events, and how the school can celebrate LGBTQ+ people. Students may attend each week, drop in or drop out at any time. Signing up does not mean you have to attend every week. And not signing up doesn't prohibit you from coming to any session you wish to. Astro Pi—Mission Space Lab Teams who qualified for Phase 2 of the Mission Space Lab project will continue to plan their science experiments that will run on the International Space Station. This half term teams will need to plan how they will use the data they collect from the Astro Pi on the ISS. We will also work to build our own Astro Pi flight case. The Mission Space Lab programme is run by the European Space Agency and Raspberry Pi. Foreign Film Club Students will watch foreign, independent films which they may not usually be exposed to or might not be their first choice when they visit the cinema! MICHELLE TEMPEST Dr Michelle Tempest worked as a hospital doctor, psychiatrist and cognitive analytical therapist for over a decade. Now she is a partner in a healthcare strategy consultancy company, Candesic. She is author of the book Big Brain Revolution: Artificial Intelligence – Spy or Saviour. She invests in AI early stage companies and is on the board of VR company Cognitant. MARGARET ESIRI Margaret Esiri is Emeritus Professor of Neuropathology at the University of Oxford. She has worked for most of her life in Oxford but her work there has been interspersed with many short visits to Nigeria where her late husband had a clinic in a remote part of the country. Her research has been mainly concerned with trying to understand the pathology of multiple sclerosis and other inflammatory diseases and dementia.
SHEENA PIRBHAI Sheena is the CEO and founder of Stress Point Health, a platform developing digital solutions to mental health issues. Previously her career focused on fundraising and investing in the Technology, Media and Telecoms sector and she is a member of the British Association of Female Entrepreneurs. She serves on the board of a number of her portfolio companies as well as advising and incubating startups in their early stages of growth. RACHEL PENDERED Rachel Pendered is the founder of Media Zoo, a film, communications, and digital learning agency - the only agency in the world to win the Cannes Grand Prix in the same year as the New York Film Awards. She is a passionate advocate for female entrepreneurship and hopes to play her part in inspiring the next generation of female entrepreneurs.
JACOB THORPE Jacob is a History teacher currently living and working in Lisbon. Specialising in inclusive teaching practices, Jacob is passionate about shining a light on diverse histories and teaching traditional histories from new perspectives. SU-LIN GARBETT-SHIELS Su-Lin is an International development professional, currently leading the COVID-19 corporate response at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Previously, as Deputy Head of the Country Programmes Cabinet at DFID, she was responsible for providing the Director General with strategic oversight and assurance of £4bn of the UK's aid budget. Recently spent 3 years posted to Indonesia, as Deputy Head of the UK Climate Change Unit at the British Embassy. Over 10 years of expertise and experience working in international climate change policy, development and economics for the UK Government. CHS alumni and parent.
GRACE LEWIS At school, Science was always my favourite subject; but what jobs can you do with Science, other than becoming a doctor? Lots of different things! Come and find out about the world of Pharmaceutical research from a Biochemical Engineer (me), and discover how to make drugs (the good kind!), with the help of a Chinese hamster! ALI PIRBHAI I am a Regional Director for Metro Bank Plc, a FTSE 250 company founded ten years ago. Based in London, I have also led teams in the Healthcare Industry both in the UK and the Middle East, before embarking on a career in Banking 15 years ago where I am now responsible for leading a business with over 250 people.
