THE MARKS OF A METHODIST The United Methodist Church connects more than 12 million members on four continents and engages in ministry all around the world. We speak many languages, come from various cultures, and span generations. Yet, we are united in our faith in Jesus Christ. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. To be a "Methodist" is to experience God's transforming grace and to live out one's faith in community and service. Learn more at umc.org. MEMBERSHIP If you’re interested in joining our church, join Pastor Timothy for Discover Floyd UMC, a casual gathering where you can learn about the history of our church, explore the beliefs and traditions of The United Methodist Church, and get to know the ministries of our church a bit better. After you’ve attended Discover Floyd UMC, you can discuss with our pastor how to join our church. If you have never been baptized, you will prepare for baptism. If you were baptized as an infant or young child and have not made a profession of faith and been confirmed, then you will prepare to reaffirm your baptism when you take the membership vows. If you are a member of another part of the church (such as Baptist, Presbyterian or Lutheran), then you can transfer your membership to our church. If you are a member of another Christian church that does not transfer membership, you can make a profession of faith and be received as a member. Page 4
