Transition to School, Kindy or Daycare Transitioning to school is such an important time and is one of the biggest milestones for children and families. Forming strong relationships between early childhood settings and schools before children start kindergarten assists in ensuring a smooth transition. This also allows for information sharing between families and primary school settings prior to commencement. Family Activities to help your child progress • reading aloud (this develops concentration and awareness of language patterns) and writing with them (e.g. shopping lists Family and letters) activities • stimulating their imagination and natural curiosity (e.g. visiting a zoo, park or airport) at home • playing sports, card or board games help develop mathematical, problem solving, language and social skills • shopping, walking or gardening together • singing songs and nursery rhymes together. Handy Holiday Hints Holidays can be a great time to bond with your children and maybe even let your own inner child come out to play. But it can also be a stressful time when kids complain of boredom. Below are some activities to keep the little ones entertained. Road Trippin’ with Kids • Snacks for the trip • Colouring activities • Stop at Playgrounds for breaks • Tell stories to keep them entertained • Child friendly music you can all sing along to Provide your kids with their daily dose of vitamins and anti-oxidants by encouraging them to make their own fruit salad animals or boats. This is a fantastic way to inspire your children to get creative in the kitchen by thinking about what they would like to make, and how they will use different shapes, colours and sizes of fruit to make it! Backyard camping An old classic that never goes out of style! This is the perfect time of year to set up a backyard camp. Set your tent up as the ideal playhouse during the day, and older kids can even sleep outside (if they’re feeling brave enough!) Camping comes with so many fun activities - scavenger hunts, nature crafts, stories, torch shadow puppets. And, of course, one of the best things about camping is the food - think snags in bread, toasted marshmallows and instant noodles. 8 Childers Neighbourhood Centre Community Care News
Isis Community Care Parking Permits In Queensland the disability parking permit scheme consists of 2 permits, the: • Australian permit • Red permit—for existing red permit holders only. Red permits are no longer issued to new applicants but if you already have a red permit, you may reapply for another when your permit expires. Changes to the Eligibility Criteria for a Disability Parking Permit In Queensland, from 31 August 202 the eligibility criteria for the Australian permit includes people with a vision impairment who are diagnosed as ‘legally blind’. This includes on a temporary (for 6 months or more) or permanent basis. The expansion to the number of permit holders is not expected to have a substantial impact on the availability of disability parking bays. However, what can impact availability is misuse of disability parking bays by people without a disability parking permit. From the 31 August 2020, the police-issued infringement notice penalty for illegally parking in a disability parking bay is $533. Australian permit • You may be able to get an Australian permit if your ability to walk is severely restricted by a medical condition or disability. • If you have a permit issued interstate and move to Queensland, you will need to apply for a permit within 14 days of becoming a resident. Isis Community Care Meals on Wheels provides nutritional support to a broad section of the community, including the elderly and other vulnerable people such as those recovering from illness, hospital stays or procedures. Meals on Wheels is a not for profit organisation. Our aims are: • To provide a quality nutritious meal delivered to your door • To monitor the health, safety and wellbeing of our clients • To provide a service that brings people together • To enable the client to remain living at home for as long as possible • To maintain and enhance clients' independence and quality of life • To prevent early or unnecessary admission to hospital or aged care facility • To provide a service that brings people together. HOW TO STORE YOUR MEAL Important: If meals are delivered hot, it is preferable that they be consumed upon delivery. If this is not possible it is important to treat the meals with care to ensure your own health. Guidelines below should thus be followed: 1. Meals cannot be left in eskies if you are not home. 2. Storing food correctly is important for food safety, enjoyment and nutrition. Bugs are normally present in all foods and if they grow to large numbers, they can make you feel sick. This is called food poisoning. Perishable foods should not be left out of the refrigerator longer than necessary. The cold temperature slows the growth of food poisoning bugs. The dangerous part is that you often cannot taste or smell that the food is spoiled. The longer food is left out the more likely it is to be spoiled. 3. Your Meals on Wheels may be delivered Hot or Frozen. Hot Meals must be eaten immediately. If this does not happen for some reason, you must throw away the remainder. Frozen Meals should be stored in the freezer until you are ready to eat them. Reheat according to the directions so that they are heated all the way through. 4. Never re-freeze a frozen meal once it has been thawed out. If you are not going to be home when the Meals on Wheels volunteer delivers your meal, it is your responsibility to advise the Coordinator the previous day, so alternative arrangements can be made. ISIS COMMUNITY CARE provides entry level support services for frail, older people to assist and re-enable clients to live independently in a safe home environment within their own community. We also provide assistance to carers to maintain their caring role by offering respite services so that the carer can take a break. We are funded through the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
