Celebrating Matariki & the fresh new look of Karangahape Road Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to Karangahape Road’s massive, progressive street party! With over 60 different events and activities, we recommend you pause a moment to note performance times, stage locations, starting points for tours, and all the upgraded elements of Karangahape Road that you can’t wait to explore! Te Karanga ā Hape is proud to have called together more than 100 artists, DJs, performers and designers for your enjoyment – all embellished by the personal contributions of our wonderful bar, restaurant and shop owners. Through a theme of Te Ao Mārama / The Enlightened World, we acknowl- edge the Matariki star cluster, as well as the 1930s community project that first lit this strip with electric lighting, and the inclusive vibrancy of the Karangahape Road we love today. Te Karanga ā Hape is an invitation to experience the bountiful sights, sounds, tastes and feelings that are unique to Karangahape Road. From 3pm, the street will light up with live music across multiple stages, outdoor screenings and indoor exhibitions, Matariki markets and kai, fashion instal- lations in shop windows, fresh street art on Poynton Terrace, workshops and walking tours, a bicycle valet and e-bike tours – plus a smorgasbord of special offers from local shops and restaurants. With sunset scheduled for 5.15pm, the celebrations will be lit well into the evening! A pop-up Matariki hub, inviting creatives into an interactive public space to share their skills and knowledge, will be set up at 211 Karangahape Road until Sunday 11 July. The hub will be host to a photographic exhibition of Karangahape Road through the ages, alongside a series of wānanga and creative workshops. Follow the lights or chase the whai along the length of Karangahape Road, around the top of Pitt Street and over the ridge to Cross Street. Please do your part to keep our community safe by turning on Bluetooth tracing and scanning QR codes wherever you go.
