Cats Schedule - 2021 Competitions - Ekka
Welcome from
the President
Our competitions have been showcasing the very best of Queensland since the first Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) in
1876.

Competitions are the heart of the Show, rewarding and recognising our exhibitors, and highlighting the vital role
agriculture plays in our everyday lives.

As you know, due to the impacts of COVID-19, we made the decision last year to cancel the 2020 Ekka.

Remarkably, we were able to run eight of our competition sections in a modified format during the worldwide
pandemic.

More than 3,300 competition entries were received, which was pleasing to see during such an uncertain and
challenging year.

Our Young Judges, Digital Photography and Bush Poetry competitions were moved online, introducing a new
audience to our much-loved Ekka traditions.

The Digital Photography Competition was hugely successful, attracting 1,850 entries - up an incredible 2,000 per cent
on 2019.

We are planning for the gates to open this August and are delighted all 42 of our competition sections will return for
Ekka 2021.

Our virtual competitions will also stay, as we continue to embrace the digital age to expand the growth and reach of
our traditions.

In 2021, the Show will open on a Saturday (August 7), running for nine days instead of 10, maintaining two full
weekends and the Ekka public holiday.

We remain committed to showcasing our wonderful agricultural traditions and look forward to bringing our exhibitors
back together again to celebrate what makes Queensland great.

Good luck with your entries and we look forward to seeing you at our fantastic comeback 2021 Royal Queensland
Show.

2021 ROYAL QUEENSLAND SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP CAT
             COMPETITION JUDGES

              Diane Davidson (New Zealand)
              NZCF All Breeds Judge

              Judging:
Shorthair Kittens Saturday 7 August 2021
Longhair Kittens Sunday 8 August 2021

Shorthair Cats Monday 9 August 2021
Longhair Cats Tuesday 10 August 2021

Diane registered her prefix “Askari” with the New Zealand Cat Fancy Inc (NZCF Inc.). In
1980 Persians were her love then, a few years later her love for breeding Exotics
started and she has had great success taking away many National Awards as well as
the well sort after NZCF Inc. “Breeders Awards of Merit”.

In 1985, Diane was accepted onto the NZCF Inc Longhair Judges School, from there
went on to become a Longhair Tutor Judge. Having always admired the beauty of the
Shorthair breeds, in 1995 she was accepted onto the Shorthair Judges School and
become a fully qualified All Breeds Judge and Tutor.

Dianne and her husband had a Motel business in Auckland from 1984 to 2014. Life
was rather hectic between breeding cats and looking after the business with a bit of
travelling on the side. Now they enjoy retirement life and spent a couple of years
renovating their 1930’s home, having had the pleasure of enjoying it for a few years
she feels that it’s now time to move on to something a little smaller and easier to look
after. Like all breeders they have had the interruption that COVID-9 brought into their
lives making them so aware of how precious life is and treasure the freedom they have
on this side of the world where they can enjoy getting together and carrying on with
the hobby they all so enjoy and cherish.

Diane enjoys the challenge that judging brings especially with the many different
breeds on the show bench. As a Judge it is important to keep up with the subtle
changes that breeds go through over the years, when it comes to style and type.
These days, what we see on the show bench is a more modern version of breeding
with the health and nature of each breed being a high priority for the concerned
              breeder.

              Chris Lowe (New Zealand)
              NZCF International All Breeds Judge
              Judging:
Shorthair Kittens Saturday 7 August 2021
Longhair Kittens Sunday 8 August 2021
               Companions Sunday 8 August 2021
Shorthair Cats Monday 9 August 2021
Longhair Cats Tuesday 10 August 2021

Chris fell in love with Persians as a teen and it was not long before she applied for her
prefix CHRISTOS to breed these beautiful cats. To be closely followed by Exotics as
well as also breeding Siamese and Oriental Shorthairs. She has enjoyed some
wonderful show days with her daughter including Supreme Exhibit at a number of
              National Shows.

Chris was presented with her Life Membership of NZCF in 2010. Her currently role
with NZCF are Provisional Registar, Breed Standards Advisory Council Secretary and
All Breeds Tutor Judge. Entering the NZCF Judges Training Programme.

She entered the NZCF Judges Training Programme and qualified as a Longhair Judge
in 1981 and later extending her license to All Breeds in 1989. Chris is honoured to be
listed as a CFA Guest Judge and is working towards becoming a CFA Approved
Guest Judge. She thoroughly ehoyes the judging scene, the forward thinking of
exhibitors working with improvement of their chosen breeds and the interaction
between exhibitors and cat lovers from all walks of life. Chris has judged in Australia,
The Netherlands, South Africa, United Kingdom, USA, Thailand and China.

2021 ROYAL QUEENSLAND SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP CAT
             COMPETITION JUDGES

              Margaret Harris (New Zealand)
              NZCF All Breeds Judge

              Judging:
Group Specials & Supremes Saturday 14 August 2021

Margaret’s love for cats started with her “Teddy Bear” as hers was a real live Siamese
and in hindsight must have been from the very first Siamese in Canterbury.

Herself and husband David did not actually apply for the” Iluka or Tartarus” Prefix until
the mid-1980’s, by which time had already been showing Pets for several years. Over
the years they have bred and shown, Siamese & Orientals, Burmese & Mandalay’s,
British & Scottish Folds, with all the associated family groups for these breeds,
Russian Blue & Whites, and 3 Exotic Neuters, they have both exported and imported
              many cats around the world.

Then Margaret became a Shorthair Judge followed up by completing further studies
and achieving Senior All Breeds status. Everything went well with assignments all over
Australia and NZ. National and Royal shows through to small club shows, all equally
              enjoyable and memorable.

That was until the 2010/11 Earthquake shook Christchurch. Their Cat breeding days
were quite clearly over. Their cats were dispersed far and wide as their home was to
need major repairs. It took over 5 years before thier home was rebuilt. During this time
Margaret needed to step away from Cats completely, so just under 3 years ago
Margaret resigned as a Judge. Now their house and life has been rebuilt, Margaret
has been accepted back as an All Breeds by NZCF.

Margaret and Dave have have a Grey Nomad Caravan, two children and six lovely
grandchildren. They have one very spoilt and much loved cat, Adeyla, their only
remaining Russian Blue from their breeding days.

              Jenny Weekes (New South Wales)
              ACF All Breeds Judge

              Judging:

Kitten Show Sunday 15 August 2021
Desexed Cat Show Sunday 15 August 2021

Jenny has owned cats her entire life, starting with farm cats as a child. She purchased
her first pet Birman in 1990 and her first breeding Birman in 1994 . With her husband
Greg they have bred Birmans in Canberra, Townsville, Wellington (NZ) on the Gold
Coast and now at Murrumbateman. Her first prefix – Kachin was granted in Canberra
in 1994 and her current prefix – Sunsoar was granted in 1997. They have achieved
many major awards at specialist and All Breed shows including Birman Cat Fanciers
Qld Best Female Kitten 2008 and 2010 and Supreme Exhibit 2010 and 2012.

On the Gold Coast in 2006 she was able to commence training to become a judge
and gained my Companion Cat licence in 2007 with QFA, followed by a Group 1
(Longhair) licence in 2009. I became an All Breeds Judge in 2014. While living in New
Zealand she developed the quarterly magazine, Flash Cats which she continued to
edit for several years after returning to Australia. Prior to moving to Murrumbateman,
She has held various positions including the Secretary of QFA Inc., Secretary of the
Birman Cat Fanciers of Qld Club and President of the Gold Coast Cat Club.

She and her husband are enjoying their life in Murrumbateman and share their home
with their Birmans, and three Alpacas Cherokee, Magic and Warlock. Aside from her
cat related activities she enjoys patchwork quilting, web site development, travelling
and spending time with the grandchildren.

                                                   ACF All Breeds Judge
                                                   Judging:
Kitten & Desexed Show Sunday 15 August 2021

Barbara grew up with a black and white domestic cat, which came from a litter of
kittens, which her mother had rescued. In the early 1980’s she met and instantly fell in
love with the Burmese breed. In 1984, she acquired her first breeding queen and
                                                   registered her Prefix Riokay.

In 1987, Barbara began her Shorthair judges training with the Queensland Feline
Association and while she was studying the different shorthair breeds made the
                                                   decision to breed Abyssinians.

Barbara has also bred and imported Somalis from Hawaii and bred Burmillas,

               CAT BREED SHOWCASE
                    11, 12 & 13 August 2021
Breeders, Exhibitors and Breed Clubs are invited to participate
in a Breed Display which will be over three (3) days of the Ekka.
This will be an exceptional opportunity to promote your breed
direct to a large visiting public each day.

The Breed Showcase will provide an informative, educational
and interactive display for visitors to the Ekka. Breed talks for
the public are held on each of the breed display days at
10.00am, 12.00pm, 2.00pm and 4.00pm.

As part of the Breed Showcase, the “Pat a Cat or Kitten”
concept will excite visitors of all ages when exhibitors take cats
from their cages during the day.

Participating exhibits will need to be on display from 9.00am to
4.30pm on the day of their display. Free entry to the
Showgrounds on the day of their display will be provided to all
participants in the Cat Breed Showcase.

Please advise MR. ROBBIE WALKER of your participation.
