Public Art "A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind." Eugene Ionesco Walk through the alleys of downtown Billings and you will certainly experience an adventure in public art. The Downtown Billings Alliance is proud to highlight a few of the newest art installations you can enjoy downtown. THE LIGHT BIKE TRAIL The downtown Billings Light Bike Trail is a photogenic trail featuring 11 neon-lit bikes installed in alleys throughout downtown. In addition to offering a dynamic photo opportunity, the Light Bike Trail activates these dark and otherwise unvisited alleys providing substantial public safety improvement. The Light Bike Trail will start in the alley behind Last Chance Cider Mill and end in the N. 29th St Alley behind the Hedden-Empire building. The trail will be complete in the fall of 2021. MURALS It's been a big year for local artists Ruby Hahn and Elyssa Leininger with their gorgeous new mural projects and work showcased on downtown traffic signal boxes. Ruby’s artwork is featured in the N. 29th Street alley with her first large-scale mural, completed in summer of 2021, along with a piece on the traffic signal box at the corner of N. 27th St. and Montana Avenue. Elyssa’s work is found in numerous locations around downtown; Two large and impactful murals that adorn both the 6th Street and 13th Street Underpasses, two smaller murals located in the alley behind Dickey's BBQ and The Marble Table on Montana Avenue, and a piece on a traffic signal box outside of Jake's Downtown on 1st Avenue N. and N. 27th St. Beyond beautification of the downtown community, public art offers attractive destinations, creates usable spaces for the community, all while contributing to the downtown’s overall public safety. Please find more information, beautiful photos, and opportunities to be involved with downtown Billings’ public art program at www.downtownbillings.com. 2 August 2021 | DESTINATION DOWNTOWN
