Organ Restoration Update We are pleased to announce the recent organ concert celebrating 145 years since the dedica- tion of the Cathedral’s pipe organ raised over $13,000 for the Cathedral Organ Restoration Fund. With about $300,000 of immediate needs, this is a great help toward maintenance and funding incremental projects. These funds are helping us move forward this summer on the restoration of two wind chests and mechanisms in the Great division. 145-year-old parts will be replaced, updated, and restored for about a dozen of the organ’s 76 stops. These stops will be unplayable for several weeks, but the rest of the organ will still sound, continuing to en- hance the sacred liturgy. The restored mechanisms will be far more reliable upon their rein- stallation later this summer. We are committed to a full restoration of the instrument before its 150 th anniversary, and hopefully sooner! Dentations for the Cathedral Organ Restoration Fund are accepted at any time. You can give online at https://holycrossboston.churchgiving.com/Organ With 5,292 pipes, the Cathedral’s E. & G. G. Hook & Hastings pipe organ was the largest or- gan built in the United States at the time of its construction in 1875. Exceptionally rare is that it is still intact from its original design. Now with the transformed acoustic of the 2019 Ca- thedral renovation, the instrument has the opportunity to sing again, as it has not in many generations. This transformed acoustic has been a paradigm shift. This grand pipe organ is now relied up- on for each major liturgy including all appearances on Catholic TV and network TV. In the last year, it has been heard by millions of viewers from all over the globe. JULY 4, 2021
