Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been an exciting week for me as the ICT Suite conversion has got underway – great progress
has been made and we can now start phase 2 – the decoration part.

Captain Tom 100 Challenge
We have had great fun completing our 100 challenges. Reception have made a farm of 100
animals, Year 1 have joined in a 100 metre egg and spoon race while Year 2 been inspired to do
loads of PE including 400 squats, 500 situps and 300 glute bridges. Year 3 have done 100 star
jumps, Year 4 have counted to 100 in French and Year 5 are counting to 100 in Roman numerals.
Our energetic Year 6 have completed 100 burpees! I have set all children the challenge of writing
a 100 word story or poem and look forward to reading them. Please let us know if you have done
any challenges at home; on the promotional video I saw a lovely idea from Dame Judi Dench who
was eating 100 maltesers!

Coats
I think the rain on Wednesday took us all by surprise and looking at the weather forecast
for the next week or so it looks that we should expect more wet stuff! A reminder that,
given the change in the weather, your child needs to bring a coat to school every day as
we like to make sure everyone goes outside for some fresh air, even if it is cold or raining.

Year Group E-mail Addresses
During lockdown the year group e-mails were very useful for you to
communicate directly with teaching staff. Now, however, these are not checked
as regularly so please e-mail all issues to office@castlewoodprimary.co.uk and
Mrs Barnard will forward messages on to the teachers directly so that any
concerns can be dealt with as soon as possible.

Pyjamarama – Friday 14th May
We will be joining in “Pyjamarama”, organised by the Book Trust to promote
the benefits of reading, which this year is focusing particularly on bedtime
stories and trying to raise funds to ensure that every child has access to
bedtime reading. Children are invited to wear their pyjamas / nighties /
onesies / dressing gowns to school on Friday 14th May for a donation which
we will send to the Book Trust – please don’t feel that you have to buy pyjamas especially as
leggings and a loose T-shirt will do fine. Teachers will be organising a range of special class
activities, too. We would love to see some photos of parents reading to their children at bedtime so
please send them to Mrs Barnard via e-mail – office@castlewoodprimary.co.uk.

Self-Harm: Parent and Carer Bespoke Live Online Session 11th May 12-1 pm
Unfortunately, given the pandemic there has been a rise in incidences of self-harm in young people.
Therefore, I have attached some details about a free online self-harm session for parents and
carers of a young person engaged in or at risk of engaging in self-harming behaviour which may be
of interest.

I hope you have a lovely weekend; Monday 3rd May is a Bank Holiday so a long weekend for us all
to enjoy. We will see you on Tuesday 4th May.

Best wishes,

Rachel Nunns, Headteacher

Time To Talk

The retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S) has begun legal action against supermarket Aldi, arguing
the supermarket's Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake infringes its Colin the Caterpillar trademark. M&S
claim that their similarity leads consumers to believe they are of the same standard and "rides on
the coat-tails" of M&S's reputation. M&S wants Aldi to remove the product from sale and agree not
to sell anything similar in the future.

Things to talk about at home…

Have you ever tried a caterpillar cake? Can you remember which one it was? Did you enjoy
it?

Do you think other shops should be allowed to produce their own caterpillar cakes? Explain
your answer.

Can you think of any other foods or products that are very similar to each other?
