Timberwood Middle School (#101-913-046) Printed: 11/16/2020, 5:48 pm VISION Here at Timberwood Middle School we envision a school where we: Building Relationships: Cultivate meaningful relationships with students where a healthy respect is valued and reciprocated. The feel of the classroom denotes a sense of “WE” rather than “me and you.” Students, parents, and visitors will feel welcome within the school. We will create positive classroom environments and students will feel safe at all times. Engaging Learning Environment: Establish routines and traditions to support a learning framework where students are accustomed to the “TMS way .” “The look” of our environment represents the evidence of higher learning through the use of rigorous lessons, technology, and collaboration. We will instruct to individual learning styles because we recognize all learners have different needs . College Going Culture: Create student awareness of their post-secondary opportunities. We will support the development of self -management skills (time management, study skills, goal setting, self-awareness, persistence, AVID strategies) by providing students with the tools needed for college success. We value every minute of instruction and believe in the importance of building relationships across our campus . PROFILE Timberwood Middle School opened in 1998 and serves 1221 students in grades 6 through 8. The student population is 28.17% African American, 37.92% Hispanic, 28.42% White, 51.43% Male, 48.57% Female. Timberwood Middle School serves 10.40% Special Education students, 45.29% Economically Disadvantaged students, 4.59% English Language Learners, 54.71% At-Risk students, 10.32% Gifted & Talented students. Timberwood Middle School (#101-913-046) Printed: 11/16/2020, 5:48 pm NEEDS Goal #1: In addition to providing high quality instruction and learning opportunities in core areas (reading, math, writing, science, etc.), provide opportunities for students to develop important skills (POG) through modern, personalized instructional strategies that promote engagement, retention, and transfer of content and skills. 1 Provide a high quality college/career awareness program. 2 Foster the following WICOR / POG skills: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Innovation Goal #2: Study, plan and implement best practices in school safety to provide the most safe and secure schools possible. 1 Build relationships with students that will foster trust and communication and encourage the use of iHelp. 2 Conversations with students and parents about safety and COVID 19 protocol (training for students and staff) Goal #3: Attract and retain the most talented staff available for our students. 1 Develop a feeling of family among the teachers and staff by having the social committee plan outside activities . PTA will host staff luncheons and activities for teacher appreciation week . Provide instructional support and resources for all teachers. Teachers will attend the district ropes course to develop team building . Goal #4: Humble ISD is family - maintain and grow the family-like culture of Humble ISD in the best interest of the students, staff, and community. 1 Maintain a welcoming culture and climate for all stakeholders.TMS clubs and organizations will participate in community service: Stu. Co Adopt a Roadway, Band and Orch. adopting Rosemont Assisted Living, and PAWs beach clean up. Goal #5: Align all resources (time, money, and talent) with the highest priorities of Humble ISD - safety, talent, instruction, and culture. 1 TMS will continue increase student participation by promoting clubs and organizations. 2 Provide opportunities for stakeholders to provide feedback with surveys and open communication at school and community events. Campus Goal: To provide daily opportunities for our students to communicate , innovate, collaborate, and think critically while effectively managing time and personal responsibility. As a staff we will provide opportunities for student centered instruction through Project Based Learning that will engage students, as measured through Showcases, Show Offs, or Twitter. Campus Goal: Cultivate "Portrait of a Graduate" (What) by using AVID strategies (How) and allowing students to demonstrate their learning outcomes by participating in Project Based Learning measures by PBL Show Offs , Showcases or Twitter post. Campus Goal: All Students and Staff will use Schoology as a student learning platform to manage assignments , communicate and organize their learning. This is the first year for our campus to use Schoology (baseline year) Campus Goal: Reduce the number of staff moving from TMS over the prior year by team building and recognizing teacher innovation Campus Goal: To have 100% of our student leaver forms error free and 100% of our discipline referrals correctly filled out by the teachers. 1 Action: To provide daily opportunities for our students to practice POG , we will provide best practices during PLC, have students share examples of POG during PLC and create a campus website with AVID strategies that support how to support POG . To Support our students in developing quality PBL, we will train our staff in PLC Works and provide planning and implementation support for staff and students. Campus Goal: 1.Hold at least two Parent Spirit Nights in the community, 2. hold an exhibit night in the spring that will highlight student work, 3. Invite parents and community to AVID Showcase, 4. invite parents and community to 2 PBL Show Off 5. invite parents and community to PBL Show Case in February. In addition, make connections with professionals in the STEM community and invite them to share their expertise and provide feedback to Student's projects. Please Note : Due to COVID 19 protocols some of the activities above may not be possible. Therefore, to help Parents view TMS sporting events, we will live stream many indoor sporting events. 1 Action: Create a Parent / Community Academy where we host one events each semester that will focus on sharing our culture , and topics that will help the parent to increase a child's academic success through their involvement with TMS. Invite parents and community to AVID Showcase, PBL Showcase / Exhibit Night and Community Spirit Nights - Please note due to COVID 19, the above activities may not be possible. Community and parent involvement may be reduced (due to limiting number of parents coming to indoor sporting events due to COVID 19 protocol). Therefore, we will live stream games on Twitter.
