The Vintages buying team are always on the lookout for wines under $20 that punch above their weight class – wines like the Submission Cabernet Sauvignon from California and the Oak Bay Pinot Noir, both of which are characterful expressions of their regions and styles but carry lighter price tags than many of their peers. BUY BY THE CASE Remember, whether you shop in-store or online, you can buy any Vintages wine by the case. No cellar? No worries! See our tips for smart storage ideas. 10 VINTAGES
SMART STORAGE Even if you’re not looking to cellar top-flight Bordeaux for 40+ years, you want to store your wines so that they’ll taste their best when you open them. Here are some basics to keep in mind: Screw cap wines can be stored upright, but wines sealed with a cork need to lie down to keep the cork from drying out. Keep your wines out of direct sunlight; they need dark and consistently cool spaces. Also, avoid areas with high humidity or vibrations, like near the furnace or fridge. Closet shelves, basements, storage areas in condos, and even garages (if they’re cool and dry) are all suitable for short-term storage. There are also temperature-controlled cabinets available in a variety of sizes – just remember they’re intended for storing wine, not chilling it to serving temperature, so you’ll still need to chill some wines before you serve.
