#OACP2016 #RealLeadership 2016 OACP A N N UA L MEETING Building Stronger Foundations June 26 – 29, 2016
WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to the 65 th Annual Meeting of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police As President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and Chief of the Niagara Regional Police Service, it is my pleasure and honour to host this year’s 2016 OACP Annual Meeting. Welcome to beautiful Niagara Falls. The OACP’s Annual Meeting is a tremendous opportunity for Ontario’s police leaders, government representatives, and policing partners to learn, share ideas, and meet old and new friends. As the voice of Ontario’s police leaders, the OACP is at the forefront of ensuring that police executives and the organizations they lead are well positioned to meet public safety expectations. The theme of the 2016 Annual Meeting, “Building Stronger Foundations”, focuses on the importance of people as the strength of our police organizations. Our greatest resources are the men and women, both police and civilians, within our police services. There are many challenges for today’s police leaders and by building a stronger foundation, we can continue to enhance public safety and trust. With this theme in mind, the 2016 plenary sessions will focus on policing trends and issues in such areas as legal developments, discipline, crime prevention, diversity, and mental health. As delegates, you will also have the opportunity to participate and have your say about policing trends and issues at a Town Hall Session. I encourage each and every delegate to focus on his or her role in helping build a stronger foundation for safer communities in Ontario. Thank you to the organizing committee and the volunteers who have worked diligently in putting together our Annual Meeting. Niagara Region is one of Canada’s most popular tourist destinations, known for its amazing waterfalls, great restaurants and wineries, and beautiful scenery. Our evening events will offer delegates the best of what Niagara has to offer. During your time with us, I encourage you to explore and enjoy all that our Region has to offer. Thank you for being part of the 2016 Annual Meeting. It is my hope that our sessions would be productive and insightful and that you leave our Annual Meeting with clear objectives and an added sense of purpose. And remember that my motto is “Have a little fun every day”. I am certain you will here in Niagara. Sincerely, Jeff McGuire Chief of Police, Niagara Regional Police Service President, Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police 1 | 2016 OACP ANNUAL MEETING
