Message from the Team Happy Easter! We hope you have all had a great Easter break and are revitalised. So many exciting things are happening around Childers and its certainly a great way to be involved in your community. The Centre has some great school holiday activities planned for the kids including a Rainbow Sparkle Dance Party and Skate with Mates, oh and we haven't forgotten the adults. Mosaic workshops are still being run at the centre on Thursdays and we have had some wonderfully creative people exploring a new medium. In May we have an information session for those who are over 65 years or have family that are looking at getting some extra support to remain independent in their homes longer and how to understand Wills and Enduring Power of Attorney documents. We also wish to take this opportunity to say Farewell to Jeanette our Community Care Coordinator. Jeanette has been with the centre for many years and will be truly missed by all. We wish her well in her future endeavours. The process of finding a new coordinator has begun and we look forward to welcoming them into the team. Debra and the team. How long have you been working at the Childers Neighbourhood Centre? I have been volunteering 11 years this year with the Community Care Program. What do you love most about your job? I enjoy the people, everyday is different. Do you have any hobbies? Love working outside in the garden What's an interesting fact about you? I help out with Sunday School and the church stall, and often cook special treats for the Community Care clients and staff. Last month families participated in two healthy lunch box sessions with dietician Sandy Liu. Information, tips and tricks were discussed to help parents in making a healthy lunch box for their children. The families were presented with cookbooks, information on children’s dietary requirements and a community cooler with hat, water bottle and developmental activities to complete at home with your littlies. Term One Focus This term we have been focussing a lot on sensory activities through exploration, problem solving and creativity, craft, and play, as well as extending the development of language and motor skills. Through activities such as our discovery tins, bubble wrap printing, small world play with bark, sand, diggers and trucks, foil painting, pom pom track and kinetic sand with creatures. We have supported the children in continuing their sensory experience and learning journey. Sensory motor skills are the basic foundation for learning. All the activities and movement we did as infants, toddlers and children help prepare our body and our brain to learn. These skills are essential to develop the ability to participate in our everyday lives. Welcome to another Newsletter. There is so much happening at the moment…. Glorious much needed rain has fallen on our parched lawns. The rain has lifted spirits and it is so wonderful to see the bright green grass and the plants flourishing. I had twelve lively King Parrots visit my bird feeder yesterday and they looked happy with the greenery around. We hope that you got to spend the long weekend with family and friends and enjoyed some chocolate treats. We have been asked about holding Men’s Outings. If this is something that you would be interested in attending, please contact us and let us know so we can gauge interest. We are always looking at new and innovative ways we can support our clients and / or their carers.
