Community GIVE events OUR MISSION Igniting and inspiring the power of philanthropy to provide exceptional health care for New Brunswick. INSPIRE KINDNESS Support or organize a community event to help raise funds for the Saint John Regional Hospital. COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES COMMUNITY Community Event EVENT WHAT IS A “COMMUNITY” EVENT? An event organized by a volunteer, community group, or company is not an official Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation activity and is considered a “community” event. Acting independently, but with the Foundation’s support, community events are essential in helping improve health care for New Brunswickers. THE SAINT JOHN REGIONAL HOSPITAL FOUNDATION WILL BE PLEASED TO: • Provide a letter of endorsement to authenticate the event • Provide information and templates to help create Sponsorship Proposals, Silent Auction Tools, and obtain appropriate licenses (i.e. gaming, liquor). • Approve the use of our name and logo as appropriate • Promote the event on our website and social media sites • Provide a representative, when possible, to attend and speak at your event • Will discuss and, if appropriate, issue Charitable Tax Receipts per Canada Revenue Agency’s receipting guidelines THE SAINT JOHN REGIONAL HOSPITAL FOUNDATION IS UNABLE TO: • Execute the event on your behalf • Offer funding or reimbursement • Provide access to email/mailing lists • Solicit sponsorship • Provide prizes • Provide access to Hospital or Community VIP’s www.thegive.ca 3

COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES PROMOTING Promoting Your Event YOUR EVENT Spreading the word about your event is critical to its success. We can help you create a buzz for your event through posters, flyers and digital content. POSTERS & FLYERS The Foundation will design your poster including: • Date, time, location and why you are doing your event • Promote where the money is going DIGITAL CONTENT Social media, email and text messaging are the quickest ways to let people know about your event. For example, create a Facebook event well in advance of your event and have all of your friends share the event in their news feed. Check out online community event calendars such as municipal, community or local news station websites and Facebook pages, to see if they will accept a posting for your event. We can help promote your event on our website and social media sites as well. The Foundation will create digital content including: • Event listed on thegive.ca • Facebook event • Social media shareables • Event organizer profiles on social media channels • Email marketing to segmented donors The impact of giving. COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES PROMOTING Promoting Your Event YOUR EVENT HOST 100 Trudy Lace, Executive Director, Brighten Group The Brighten Group proudly donated to the SJRHF as we value the important work they do and share a mandate to enhance patient comfort at the Regional. AMOUNT RAISED: $20,000 THE CARDIAC WALK OF LIFE Murray Gilchrist, Fundraiser When I began fundraising for the hospital, I came up with a very small amount, but I loved doing it. I’ve found people to be incredibly generous and they tell me they look forward to seeing me every year. I keep thinking when I ring the doorbell they’ll say “oh not this guy again”, but that’s never been the case! AMOUNT RAISED: $76,772 SINCE 2004 6
COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES 2020 COMMUNITY EVENTS JANUARY 18TH CHINESE NEW YEAR GALA Greater Saint John Chinese Cultural Association & The Jasmine Performing Arts Group The Greater Saint John Chinese Cultural Association is a local non-profit organization founded in 1984 to promote Chinese culture in Saint John. The Jasmine Performing Arts Group is a group of passionate dancers who put on authentic Chinese ethnic performances. Both groups decided to give back and donated all the Gala proceeds to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation in support of The GIVE: Clinic 1 Expansion project. AMOUNT RAISED: $13,045 JANUARY 18TH 14TH ANNUAL “A NIGHT UNDER THE BIG TOP” John T. McMillan Jr. Memorial Foundation Every year the John T. McMillan Jr. Memorial Foundation hosts a sold-out event, to support Families Helping Families, which helps support patients diagnosed with Leukemia and other blood related cancers. AMOUNT RAISED: $45,000 FEBRUARY 13TH 8TH ANNUAL LOVE YOUR HOSPITAL RADIO-THON Acadia Broadcasting and CIBC New Brunswickers continued to show their love as more than $230,000 was raised for the expansion and renovation of the busiest clinic in the Saint John Regional Hospital, Clinic 1. The 8th annual Love Your Hospital Radio-thon brought Acadia Broadcasting’s sister stations Country 94.1 and 97.3 The Wave into the hospital for a full day of live broadcasting thanks to our lead sponsor CIBC. AMOUNT RAISED: $230,150 FEBRUARY 15TH 4TH ANNUAL BRAAAP FOR BOOBS Denise Miller & Helen Comeau For the 4th year, participants joined in on a snowmobile run to raise money for the Erin Appleby Breast Health Fund! The Erin Appleby Breast Health Fund was created in memory of Erin Appleby, who bravely lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006 at the age of 30. AMOUNT RAISED: $5,020 FEBRUARY 20TH 2ND ANNUAL HANDS-ON HELP Eastern College Massage Therapy students from Eastern College came to the Saint John Regional Hospital to treat staff to neck and head massages and raised funds in support of the GIVE: Clinic 1 Expansion. COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES 2020 COMMUNITY EVENTS MARCH 10TH WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON Delta Hotels by Marriot Fredericton A ladies luncheon & silent auction filled with opportunities for women to share, motivate, and learn from one another. AMOUNT RAISED: $11,391 MAY 14TH to October 31st ATLANTIC ANGLERS CHALLENGE Jeff Wilson Pro Angler, Angler’s Atlas and the Striped Bass Research Team A fishing competition designed to jointly support healthcare in their communities and recreational angling research by engaging anglers in citizen science. AMOUNT RAISED: $1,000 JUNE 1ST to the 30th WALK WITH YOUR MUG Charlotte McPhee, Jo-Anne Tattersall & Committee Honouring the memory of the late Janice Craig, her loved ones walked one of her favourite loops in Quispamsis, with mugs in hand, as you could have often spotted Janice doing. Funds raised were donated to the Oncology Department. AMOUNT RAISED: $510 JUNE 6TH to October 31st FIELD OF FLAGS CAMPAIGN Nicole Robertson A campaign selling Remembrance Day flags for $25 each supporting the Ridgewood Veterans Wing. This year the campaign raised enough funds for a new bus to transport our veterans. AMOUNT RAISED: $125,000 JULY 10TH to August 1st SUMMER STRIDES Anne Arsenault Summer Strides was a fun way to keep fit and support a local cause. For a minimum $20 donors could join a virtual race, track their fitness, and raise funds for cancer treatment at the Saint John Regional Hospital. AMOUNT RAISED: $860 8
COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES 2020 COMMUNITY EVENTS AUGUST 21ST to September 21st DALHOUSIE MEDICINE NEW BRUNSWICK RUBBER DUCKY RACE Jake Dore, Sam Fellows & Kalpesh Hathi The DMNB annual event was a little different this year. Supporters made a gift to the ducky representing the fund that was nearest and dearest to their heart and push them closer to the finish-line. Our Ridgewood Veterans Wing fund, supporting the comfort of our vets, crossed the finish line first! The New Brunswick Medical Society gave a matching gift of $1,500 to them. AMOUNT RAISED: $5,755 SEPTEMBER 12TH 20TH CARDIAC REHAB WALK OF LIFE SAINT JOHN Billie-Jo Mabey, Jane Dalton, Ashley Friars, Emma Steeves & Steve Mundle The Annual Walk of Life had community members from all over Saint John and surrounding areas come out virtually to support the Cardiovascular Health and Wellness Program. AMOUNT RAISED: $22,412 SEPTEMBER 12TH to 26th 21ST FUNDY TRAIL CANCER WALK Nancy Maynard & Committee The annual Fundy Trail Cancer Walk was a virtual event this year! Funds were raised for the Oncology Department. The community got out and walked, ran or jogged anywhere to support cancer care at their local hospital. AMOUNT RAISED: $6,435 SEPTEMBER 16TH to the19th NEGRONI WEEK Port City Royal Port City Royal hosted a Negroni Week, serving different Negronis in support of healthy minds. AMOUNT RAISED: $100 OCTOBER SMILE COOKIE CAMPAIGN Fast Break Committee Another year of smiles! Fast Break donated all proceeds from the campaign to the hospital’s area of greatest need. COMMUNITY GENEROSITY IS CHANGING LIVES 2020 COMMUNITY EVENTS OCTOBER 1ST to 31st HOST 100 The Brighten Group Host100 is a unique fundraiser inspired by the 100th Anniversary of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary’s Brighten Group. Hosts from across the province welcomed friends and family to potlucks, pizza parties, BBQs and wine & cheese evenings. AMOUNT RAISED: $20,000 OCTOBER 1ST to 31st FUEL THE CARE CAMPAIGN Irving Oil Since 2002, Irving Oil’s Fuel the Care Program has helped bridge the distance between home and hospital with fuel gift cards. Over 65,000 families in Atlantic Canada, New England and Quebec have been supported in their travel expenses. OCTOBER 3RD 2ND CARDIAC WALK OF LIFE SUSSEX Billie-Jo Mabey, Jane Dalton & The Sussex Hospital Foundation The 2nd Annual Cardiac Rehab Walk of Life Sussex was a success. The community came out virtually this year, to support their local rehabilitation program. Funds raised help purchase equipment and keep the program staffed! AMOUNT RAISED: $5,681 NOVEMBER 2ND 2ND ANNUAL VITO’S SPAGHETTI NIGHT Vito’s Uptown, Rothesay & East Locations Vito’s customers, staff and wonderful management worked so hard to make a delicious contribution to NB healthcare. All proceeds from Spaghetti sales on this day were donated to The GIVE: Clinic 1 Expansion. AMOUNT RAISED: $17,620 Host 100 Vito’s Spaghetti Night 10
