Green Valley Farms 21989 Woodsfield Rd., Sarahsville, OH 43779 M ohican 4013 93G (pictured) is one of the latest additions to our herd sire battery. He is sired by the carcass king Innisfail 4013, whose steers on test graded 100% choice with 25% grading prime. His dam (inset) is the Rose Garden donor from Roth’s in Missouri, a Homegrown 8Y daughter with P606 and Rosy Dam of Mohican 4013 93G Lane on her dam’s side. “Mo” was purchased in the Mohican West sale last fall and is co-owned with Gene and Penny Turner. His EPDs promise easy calving, superior udder quality, and top notch marbling. Later in the fall we purchased NS Force 812 and his dam in the NS dispersal. Force is a son of the Canadian bull Winchester Powerball and his dam is a Hometown 10Y daughter out of the Lot 1 cow NS 4R Rachel 221. Force is a dark red, wide butted, eye-appealing young sire with a big ribeye EPD and a CHB index of 126. We think these young bulls, along with our senior herd sire KH JLCS 10Y Titanium E15, will provide great milk and maternal strength through their superior dams, and also improve muscle and marbling, so important on the commercial side. She would brag about their docile temperament and the sheer beauty of the breed but more than anything else she loved her Hereford Family. Sandy grew up on a Hereford farm, she exhibited Herefords all through her youth years, she served as the Ohio Hereford Junior Advisor, Ohio Hereford Women President and most recently as a Director for the National Hereford Women. Her avid love for the breed has been passed down to her children and now grandchildren. Sandy and her husband, John, are longtime supporters of many things Hereford, especially things involving youth. The Ohio Hereford Women have created the “Sandra Ostgaard Memorial Fund”. In memory of Sandy, this fund will pay one entry fee to the Ohio Premier Show for all first- time Ohio Junior Hereford Association members that will be exhibiting.
