That variety is present in the 2019-2020 season, but with a bit of a twist: this season’s strong focus is on shows that enlighten audiences about science. Our most ambitious project is a dance performance called Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion. This collaboration will take on physics, isotopes and the groundbreaking work of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams located at MSU. Through mesmerizing dance and a series of post-performance engagements we are calling Physics Day, the entire experience will provide a visual and stimulating exploration of the world of physics. This season, we will also premiere Wharton Center’s partnership with MSU’s Abrams Planetarium and New York City storyteller LuAnn Adams in a show that brings multicultural stories about our solar system together with the amazing power and technology of the planetarium. And then there are penguins. Yes, Penguins! Cahoots NI Theatre Company from Northern Ireland returns with a whimsical show about penguins that is also about friendship, acceptance, and the ever-changing definition of ‘family.’ We welcome back David Harrell in his brilliant play called The Boy Who Would Be Captain Hook, a piece about a young man’s ability to see past his disability. Captain Hook is a funny yet poignant play about overcoming obstacles and embracing triumphs. Also back for another appearance is Black Violin, with a performance that takes music to a whole new level. From the music to the inspirational stories told by the musicians, Black Violin goes well beyond a kid’s concert to serve as a musical impetus for pursuing our dreams. Finally, we bring you the hilarious Robert Post in How to Survive Middle School, a show that blends comedy with the serious notion of what it’s like to transition into and survive middle school. Post takes us inside the middle school mind for a touching look at the joys and challenges facing young people of that age. See you at Wharton Center for the 2019-2020 season.
