SMITH-HUTSON SCHOLARSHIP // smith-hutson.shsu.edu
The Smith-Hutson Scholarship is intent on building a community of scholars who demonstrate
academic achievement, service and leadership. Students awarded Smith-Hutson Scholarships may
receive financial support up to a maximum of $18,500 per academic year for up to four years for
incoming freshmen. Incoming freshmen applicants must be residents of Texas, demonstrate academic
and leadership potential, plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree at SHSU, demonstrate financial need,
and be admitted for Fall 2021 at SHSU. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) prior to submitting their
scholarship application.

The Recreational Sports Center offers a weight room and cardio area,
a climbing and bouldering wall, a swimming pool, an indoor track, and
basketball and volleyball courts. Membership is included with your tuition
and fees as a full-time student. Enjoy a variety of programming such as:
■ INTRAMURAL SPORTS – Compete and have fun with your friends
on campus in individual and team competitions.
■ CLUB SPORTS – Over 18 student organizations compete regionally and
nationally in their chosen sport. Join teams in sports such as lacrosse,
volleyball, wrestling, rugby, or even Quidditch! For the virtual gaming
fans, we have an eSports club with over 200 members.
■ AQUATICS & SAFETY – Get CPR-certified, become a lifeguard or
swim for fitness.
■ OUTDOOR RECREATION – Challenge yourself on the climbing wall,
rent gear or join us on one of our weekend adventure trips.
■ FITNESS – Try any one of our GroupX classes, work out with a
personal trainer or meet with a nutrition educator to get your
fitness goals on track.
■ SPECIAL EVENTS – Stop by Johnson Coliseum for a concert,
basketball game or volleyball game. Join us for special events
throughout the year such as RecFest, FitFest, Sammypalooza,
Heart Health Week and many more.
