Education Education is crucial to encouraging a love of art and history. Museum programs challenge viewers to witness the world from different perspectives, to learn about cultural history, and to express themselves in creative ways. Sponsors make possible these learning opportunities that stretch the minds, hearts, and souls of people of all ages – all while keeping costs down for young and old learners alike. Learn more about educational support on page 9. Collections conservation Thanks to generous donors throughout our 80-year history as an institution, the Museum owns over 70,000 artifacts and archival materials that narrate the history and culture of the Kennebunks and its surrounding communities, from c. 3,000 BCE to the present. As artifacts age – especially paintings, furniture, and archival materials (photos, diaries, etc.) – they become increasingly difficult to display. In order to save these objects for the enjoyment and education of future generations, the Museum continually invests in object conservation. Sponsors help to ensure a future for these important treasures. Discover more about conservation support on page 10. 3

Educational Support Museum education occurs year-round, and in multiple forms. Did you know that museums are considered one of the best forms of informal education, outside of the classroom? We look forward to partnering with you to present interactive educational programming for children, adults and seniors in our community. When you support educational programs, you are inspiring the next generation of museum learners and encouraging empathy, understanding and citizenship. While not the “showy” event sponsorship, funding museum education is truly supporting the mission of the museum and your philanthropic work in the community. Specifically, your support will fund: museum field trips for York County students; Kennebunk Beach History Walking Tours, digital field trips for regional schools and retirement homes; Family Backpack Program; pajama book readings for young children; Saturday family activity table; the Museum Victory Garden; museum professional internship program for college students; and the Third Thursday Talks. Conservation Support The Brick Store Museum houses nearly 70,000 objects and archival materials relating to the history, art and culture of the Kennebunks and surrounding communities in Southern Maine. As these pieces age, they are kept safe by conservation efforts undertaken by the Museum to save these objects for future generations. The cost of conservation is understandably high, due to the incredible skill of conservators of every type of material. Our conservation budget allows us to conserve one piece per year. Your support will speed the recovery of our greatest treasures, so that they will be used to educate the next generations of museum goers for years to come.
