place on the 24th of this month. Movie enthusiasts and critics are going
insane trying to guess which of 2018’s film titles will be the biggest
winners. At the moment, Roma, A Star is Born, Green Book, The Favourite,
BlacKkKlansman, Vice and Black Panther have been eyed as 2019’s biggest
winners. May the most deserving title win!

certainly a rare gem
Durban is said to be home to some of South Africa’s best
vocalists, and 24-year-old Shekhinah Donell bears testament to
this theory. She made the Top 32 list of M-Net’s Season 7 of SA
Idols in 2011 and returned a year later sans anxiety and armed
with confidence. Many Idols SA fans were gutted when the the
judges sent the then 18-year-old packing when she reached the
Top 6 of Season 8 of SA Idols, saying she was still young and
would, without a shadow of doubt, make a superb musician
someday.
True to their word, Shekhinah returned to the music scene in
2015 with two hit singles Back To The Beach featuring Kyle
Deutsch and Let You Know featuring Sketchy Bongo, which
became instant radio and club favourites. “I like to cater to
people’s emotions as well as our frustrations. So when I went
home, Durban, for the holidays all I wanted to do was chill and
stay at the beach,” she told Live Mag in 2016.
Since then, the humble muso has been dropping pop hit after hit,
and it doesn’t seem like she will be slowing down anytime soon.
Some have described her brand of pop sound as uniquely South
African with its thumping beats, while others believe her simple
lyrics accompanied by her angelic vocals are what sets her apart
from the rest.
