evening, someone told me that the entire village was

AQUAMAN
It takes a brave storyteller, and an even gutsier production team and cast to tell
a fictitious tale about a mixed species — a half-human and half-Atlantean prince
whose on-land persona is known as Arthur Curry, (played by the charming Jason
Momoa). Owing to these two worlds, Arthur finds himself slap-bang in the middle of
an identity crisis and generally prefers not to have any allegiance with either land
or sea, but to rather be left to his own devices. You know a storyline is exceptional
when you find yourself buying into it, fully knowing that it doesn’t exist in reality.
Fast on his tracks to becoming a renowned superhero in his own right, Aquaman
first appeared in Batman vs. Superman and also featured in Justice League. This,
however, is the first film that places him in the forefront of all the action and the
centre of all attention. Aquaman’s parents, are Tom Curry (played by Temura
Morrison) and a desolate Atlantean named Atlanna, (played Nicole Kidman), whom
Tom rescued back to good health. Upon recuperating, Atlanna returned to the sea
world only to be killed for giving birth to a half-human child. This, in the Atlantean
world was considered the ultimate sin.
At a time when evil forces, led by Arthur’s half-brother Orm (played by Patrick
Wilson), want to destroy all land species as payback for monopolising and
destroying the sea, Arthur steps up to become a uniter after much convincing from
a utopian Atlantean known as Mera, (played by Amber Heard). What’s mostly
refreshing about Aquaman’s style of fighting evil is that he doesn’t believe every
problem should be solved violently. As a result, some of this film’s most epic battles
are resolved through dialogue, negotiation and forgiveness.
Prepare to have your bums on the seat for a good two hours and 23 minutes —
not that you will mind because films like this one give you a much-needed break
from your everyday reality. The production does an excellent job of not playing into
clichés, but rather concentrating on building believable characters, performances
