co FALL SPORTS | 2020 sp Dear Colonel Community, P an WELCOME TO DENNIS GRIFFIN STADIUM and Covington Catholic High School. The 2020 Fall Sport Season will certainly look different than any other that we have encountered, but G we as the Colonel Community are ready for the challenge. Our students, coaches, families, faculty, staff and administration have To worked tirelessly over the last six months to give our young men the A opportunity to return to school and the field of competition. As I enter my 6th year as Athletic Director, one word that describes this Colonel Community is resilient. Together, we are a gritty and tough group who will persevere through any challenge. We ask for everyone’s patience and flexibility as we begin the season. The crowds will definitely be different, but our Colonel Spirit Will Not Die! Looking back, the 2019 Fall Sports Season was quite memorable. The Football program won their 8th state championship, defeating Frederick Douglass 14-7. With that, Michael Mayer won Kentucky’s Mr. Football award and signed with the University of Notre Dame. Our golf program won their 40th regional championship and finished 8th at state. Our Cross Country and Soccer programs both finished as regional runner-ups, as both proved throughout the year to be among the top 10 programs in the state. As we enter the 2020-2021 season, we are very optimistic about our Fall Sports teams. Our Football team enters the season as the #1 team in the state in 5A. We will be led by a senior class of nearly 30 players, including three year starter Caleb Jacob at Quarterback. Our Soccer program again will be one of the premier programs in the state, returning an experienced roster led by multiple years starters in seniors Will Bosley and Grant Montelisciani. The Golf Team returns two key contributors off the 2019 regional championship in Ian Asch and Dominic Paterno. Our Cross Country team will lean on the veteran leadership and abilities of Ethan Wever and Dominic Taylor, who were each 1st team all-region last year. As every year, our goals including winning regional titles and state championships in all four Fall sports. We are very excited to announce a new addition to the CCH Athletic Department. We will be offering many of our home athletic events via live video streaming on BoxCast. While limited fans are a reality for the foreseeable future, Colonel fans and relatives across the globe will be able to purchase the live webcast of most athletic contests. Please enjoy your time at Dennis Griffin Stadium and Covington Catholic High School! GO COLONELS! Tony Bacigalupo Athletic Director
FALL SPORTS | 2020 WITH A SPIRIT THAT WILL NOT DIE! IN LOVING MEMORY OF TOM DUSING, A TRUE COLONEL 1949 – 2020 TOM DUSING The Covington Catholic Colonel family lost one of its greatest in 2020 with the passing of Thomas “Tom” Dusing on Friday, August 14, 2020. In his far too few 71 years, Tom owned and operated a Northern Kentucky community staple in Dusing Bros. Ice for over 44 years. Tom was an honored mem- ber of the Covington Catholic Hall of Fame and a dedicated CCH Booster Bingo volun- teer, along with his previously departed and beloved wife Patricia. In addition to being a true Colonel, Tom was an incredible hus- band and father and will truly be missed. He was an extremely generous CovCath sup- porter with his time, talents and treasures (particularly in his constant donations of ice and refreshments). A long time member of the CCH Boosters, Tom was someone to whom Covington Catholic meant very much and he meant even more than that to us! A true blessing and definitely a “spirit that will not die!”

COVINGTON CATHOLIC COLONELS 2020 | SENIORS SEASON PREVIEW 2020 VARSITY FOOTBALL In 2020, opponents of the Covington Catholic Colonel Football team will be told “You Can’t Hide!” in true CovCath fashion as they march to another state title! This season marks Coach Eviston’s sixth season as Colonels head coach, where he has brought a strong level of success to the program. Under his realm, the football Colonels boast a 58-13 record, including 44-1 the past three seasons with two Class 5A JARRETT HILL | MANAGER state championships. With an undefeated 2019 season, CovCath went 15-0 last fall, only being challenged twice, including the state championship game, a 14-7 win over Frederick Douglass. The 2020 squad, led by an impressive group of Colonel seniors, is tasked with replacing 10 starters on defense but is up for the challenge. Caleb Jacob returns for his third year as starting quarterback. He threw for 2,817 yards and 33 touchdowns last year, while also rushing for six TDs. Ethan Reardon, a dynamic playmaker who had 45 catches for 804 yards and nine TDs last year, is a force at receiver and defensive back. Ben Dickhaus is the top returner on both the offensive and defensive line and Luke Stegman was fifth on the team in tackles last year. New to the Colonel roster is Skyler Schmidt, a transfer from Clermont Northeastern, a 6-foot-8 Division I prospect at tight end. Colonel kicker Trey Gronotte, in his fourth year as a starter, is already fourth all-time in Kentucky history in extra points (222). Trey is 25 away from third place and would need another big season and long playoff run from his offense for the state record, as two players are tied for first with 297, 75 ahead of Gronotte. 29

COVINGTON CATHOLIC COLONELS SEASON PREVIEW 2020 VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY The CCH cross country team will be deep again this season with over 40 runners in the program. Last sea- son, the Colonels were Regional Run- ner-Up and finished 6th in the State meet. This marks four straight top 10 finishes at the AAA State meet. CROSS COUNTRY The only other schools to finish in the top 10 in each of the past three seasons are St. Xavier, Trinity, and COACHING STAFF Oldham County. The team hopes to continue this high level of success in 2020. Several top performers from Tom Arnold, last season are returning. Seniors Head Coach Dominic Taylor and Ethan Wever Tony Barczak were 1st team All-Region selections last season. Seniors Andrew Bosch Jake Kleier and Drew Kent also competed at last year’s State Championship. A mix of experience and new talent should find the Colonels in the thick of the competition at both the Regional and State levels once again. There’s a Job to be Done by the BLUE and WHITE 57
