The Covid-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on the lives of so many around the world in 2020. While the creative arts sectors have been heavily impacted, we believe that their importance has never been more evident than right now. The arts have the power to entertain, educate and enhance the wellbeing of individuals and communities from all walks of life. According to figures released in early 2020, the country’s successful creative industries contributed £111.7 billion to the UK in 2018, equivalent to £306 million every day. From Central’s inception in 1906, its mission has always been to develop practitioners and researchers who shape the future of theatre and performance throughout the UK and beyond. This future will be different – performance and theatre continuously evolve, but the immediate future may see this happen at a faster pace than before.
