Director’s welcome Fro m R i c h a rd S t e v e n s Hello everyone, no doubt I’m a familiar face to most of you? After a few years at Robin Hood Harley Davidson, coming to Newmarket in 2014 was a an exciting move for myself and my wife Alison. Thank you to everyone for making my first few weeks as Director so special and thank you also to our outgoing Director and all other former committee members for their dedication, commitment and support over the past 30 years of the Chapter. We’re keen to continue with everything that makes the Fenlanders Chapter who they are however, it’s also time to make some changes the first of which is being able to book your Rally Ticket by phone and pay with a card; see our Rally info page in this newsletter. We’re also sourcing new Chapter merchandise including bike flags - more news as soon as we have some stock ordered! They say Charity begins at Home? This year our Chapter will be hosting fundraising events on behalf of The Alzheimers Society and I have a very personal reason why this is so important an organisation to support. I also know that probably all of us have at one time or another have had to deal with the devastating consequences of this terrible disease Please see our Charity page for more details. On a happier note, get your diaries, sticky-notes and electronic reminders and start filling in all the Ride-Out dates that are starting to populate the Ride-Out First day in the Director’s Chair Calendar. There really is nothing better than the sound of several Harley Davidson’s rumbling through the countryside! Ride Safe and see you out there!
FENLANDERS ARE 30! What was happening in the world in 1991? It would appear that the more things change the more things stay the same, or so the saying goes? Who would have thought for example, that 30 years after Robert Maxwell is found dead in the sea that his daughter is making unpleasant headlines of her own? Or that three decades ago, Ukraine voted to become independent of the Soviet Union and now it looks like a huge conflict is about to explode out of control. It was also the year that PanAm ceased trading. Was that really 30 years ago? In more jovial news of the year, Star Trek VI the Undiscovered Country was launching in cinemas and DeForest Kelly aka Dr McCoy gained a star in Hollywood. The Queen became the first British Monarch to address the US Congress and the first British person in space was Helen Sharman who launched aboard the Soviet Soyuz mission. Technology also experienced a momentous occasion with the first ever website, info.cern.ch, created by Tim Berners-Lee. But by far the most exciting thing to have happened is that the Fenlanders Chapter Suffolk UK became an official local chapter of the Harley Owners Group. Since then there have been just six Directors and a number of different meeting venues. We were initially sponsored by Classic Harley Davidson, Bury St Edmunds, then Black Bear, Newmarket and now Newmarket Harley-Davidson. Underlining all of this is the Harley Owners Group Chapter Charter; The Annual Charter for H.O.G. Chapters is the document that defines the relationship between the local Chapter, sponsoring Dealer and H.O.G. To read more about the Charter and what it means. A copy of the Charter is available on our website and we would encourage every member to take time to read it.

Chapter Charity 2 0 2 2 Fu n d ra i s i n g n e w s Fenlanders have chosen to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society with a series of Rides and Events supporting this increasingly important Charity. Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity who campaign for change, fund research to find a cure and support people living with dementia today. Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and there’s currently no cure. Too many people face dementia alone. People with dementia have told us how difficult it is to find out who to turn to or where to go for information and support. The solution: A wide range of support services ensures nobody should have to face dementia Five things you should know alone. about dementia. A strategic ambition: • By 2022, all people newly diagnosed with dementia will have an offer of support 1. Dementia is not a natural • By 2022, people will be able to manage dementia and live better part of ageing Keep an eye on our Chapter social media channels as well as our future newsletters to find out how you can join in and if you wish to make any suggestions for a 2.
