Downtown Banff Banff and Calgary with Wilshire Adventurers October 12-19, 2018 Join Wilshire Adventurers and Mark Wingfield on an eight-day, seven-night journey to Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, via Calgary. We’ll fly nonstop from DFW International Airport to Calgary, where you’ll have a full day to explore on your own. Then we’re off to six days and five nights in Banff, where we’ll dine atop Sulphur Mountain at sunset, walk on a glacier, see Peyto Lake, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Bow Lake and dine at two exquisite and historic hotels. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore Banff on your own or book additional tours.
Friday, Oct. 12 1:30 p.m. Meet at DFW Airport. 3:30 p.m. Depart WestJet Flight 1583 from DFW. It is suggested that you either eat before boarding the plane or take food with you because of the long flight and time change. Calgary is on Mountain Standard Time, which is one hour earlier than Dal- las. That means our flight is four hours long. 6:24 p.m. Arrive Calgary Airport. 7:15 p.m. Depart airport. Note: We will have to go through customs at the Cal- gary airport before picking up luggage. It is a rather long walk from the gate to customs, so if you have mobility issues you will want to request assistance before we leave the gate at Dallas. 7:45 p.m. Arrive hotel, Marri- ott Downtown Dinner on your own. There’s a restaurant and bar at the hotel, or you may want to visit Stephen Ave- nue Walk, directly Downtown Marriott behind the hotel, where there are many restaurants within easy walk- ing distance. Saturday, Oct. 13 This is a free day to explore Calgary, and there’s plenty to see within walking distance of the hotel. Check out Stephen Avenue Walk, directly behind the hotel, where you’ll find lots of shops and restaurants. On Saturday morning, Mark will hand Stephen Avenue Walk out passes to Calgary Tower, which is located directly across the street from the hotel. Be sure to take time at your own pace to enjoy the
sweeping panoramic views and narrated descriptions. The Glen- bow Museum, accessible from within the hotel near the Starbucks, offers a great lesson in Canadian history and is well worth your time. Admission is on your own; the cost is $11. Also just down the street a few blocks to the left as you exit the hotel lobby is the Studio Bell, a View from Calgary Tower fascinating interactive museum all about Canada and music. If you go, ask when the next demonstration of the theater organ will be. Cost for admission is $14. There are sev- eral theatrical companies and the Calgary Symphony located across the street and down the street from the hotel. Check their schedules for Saturday night performances. If you’d like to go for a longer daytime walk (1 mile), ask for directions to Prince’s Island Park, and along the way stop to enjoy Calgary’s public art along the city streets. Sunday, Oct. 14 Breakfast on your own. The hotel serves a delicious breakfast, by the way. 11:00 a.m. Bring luggage to lobby (or have bellman bring it) to load on bus. 11:15 a.m. Depart hotel for trip to Banff. You’re going to want to be awake for this scenic drive, so have your eyes open and your camera ready. 1:00 p.m. Arrive Moose Lodge and unload. We probably won’t be able to check in to our rooms yet, but we can leave our luggage and begin exploring downtown Banff. 5:00 p.m. Bus departs for Moose Lodge, Banff Banff Gondola. 5:20 p.m. Ride the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain for stunning views across the valley. 6:00 p.m. Group dinner at Sky Bistro atop Sulphur Mountain 8:30 p.m. Bus departs for return trip to hotel. Monday, Oct. 15 6:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel (coupon provided) 7:30 a.m. Bus departs for Columbia Icefields tour. Today, we’ll explore the scenic Icefields Parkway with a stop at Peyto Lake. Then we’ll ride giant buses onto the Columbia glacier. Lunch will be served at Altitude restau- rant at the icefields. 5:00 p.m. Arrive back at hotel Dinner on your own Peyto Lake (top) and Columbia Tuesday, Oct. 16 Icefields 7:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel (coupon) 9:15 a.m. Bus departs for driving tour of Yoho Valley, in- cluding Emerald Lake, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. We’ll enjoy a lovely luncheon at Chateau Lake Louise, overlooking Lake Louise. 4:00 p.m. Arrive back at hotel Dinner on your own Chateau Lake Louise (above) and Bow Lake (left)
Wednesday, Oct. 17 7:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel (coupon) Free day to explore Banff on your own. Use the convenient bus that circles the town (free with your hotel room key) or walk to your destination. You may also want to book other tours. Lunch and dinner are on your own. Thursday, Oct. 18 Downtown Banff 7:30 a.m. Breakfast at hotel (coupon) Free morning to explore Banff on your own. Use the convenient bus that circles the town (free with your hotel room key) or walk to your destination. By noon, get yourself to the Banff Springs Hotel, which Banff Springs Hotel is a 20-minute walk or an easy ride on the city shuttle bus. We will not have access to a private motor coach today. 12:30 p.m. Group lunch buffet at Banff Springs Hotel Dinner on your own Friday, Oct. 19 6:10 a.m. Bring luggage to lobby for loading on bus. 6:30 a.m. Depart hotel for Calgary (breakfast snacks on bus) 8:30 a.m. Arrive Calgary airport 10:15 a.m. Depart Calgary on WestJet Flight 1582 2:48 p.m. Arrive DFW
Costs and registration Cost is $1,780 per person based on double occupancy or $2,435 per person based on single occupancy. Cost includes roundtrip airfare from Dallas to Calgary, all ground transportation, seven nights of lodging, all attractions and tours as indicated in the itinerary and nine meals. Registration will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis, with a $100 per person deposit. Deposit must accompany registration. Only 52 spaces are available. A second payment of at least $600 per person is due no later than July 1, with the full balance due no later than Sept. 1. Trip insurance is not included but is highly recommended because we are traveling out of country. Many private carriers offer individual policies, which are cheaper than group policies. Be sure to investigate this as soon as possible after signing up for the trip. Remember that Medicare typically does not cover medical expenses outside the United States.
