Dear Members I have been an active member of the WACA and am a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I have been the WA State Manager of a leading membership association in WA and believe I will add value to the WACA Board from my executive experience delivering strong member growth and retention. I also bring broad and deep networks within the WA business community from my executive career and as a Director on boards over many years and I believe meet the criteria set out in the WACA’s 2020 Notice of Election. My nomination stems from my wish to contribute to the progress and development of WA’s iconic cricket institution and to support the Board and Management deliver on the WACA’s strategic plan. I acknowledge and thank Christian Bauer, a WACA Board member, who supported my nomination. In my current role as a Partner at Lester Blades, I advise and consult to Boards and Directors on contemporary governance practices including Sports Boards, such as cricket. I have been a Director for over 20 years on Boards in Sport, the Arts, Health, Membership Associations and the Education sector both WA and nationally. Born and bred in WA, I joined Department of Foreign Affairs serving in Australia’s overseas Embassies before returning to take up a role working for Wesfarmers CEO, Michael Chaney. I have an MBA from RMIT University and am a graduate of the University of WA and Edith Cowan University. Suzanne Ardagh FAICD Candidate
Dear Members It’s been 35 years since I first went to the WACA with my dad. We sat in the old Test Stand, watching Alan Border’s young Australian side take on the Kiwis. We lost, but I’ve got some great memories. For me, that’s what cricket is about. Memories, with your family, friends and teammates. I played cricket throughout my junior years in Bunbury. These days, I make a much better cricket fan. I’ve been a WACA member for 13 years. I’m putting my hand up for the Board because I want to give something back. With the Board seeking skills in membership-based organisations, business and political networks and government advocacy, I believe I can play a role. I founded CGM Communications nine years ago and have grown the business into one of WA’s leading consultancies. We specialise in strategic communications with the community, government and media. Our clients include large corporates, industry associations, developers, Aboriginal organisations and other not-for- profits. We engage at the highest levels of government, shaping public opinion through the media and genuine community engagement. We have also assisted with the negotiation of major sports funding agreements. I believe community engagement is the key to boosting cricket participation and attendances. Then, by demonstrating the diversity of support cricket enjoys within the community through stories, we will give ourselves the best chance of securing further investment in our game. I am married, with two young daughters. I also serve on the Board of the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Kids. Daniel Smith Candidate
Dear Members I hold a BA (Hons) Business Studies and I am a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I have had a close association with the WACA and Rugby WA. I was appointed Director of the Scorchers WA T20 Cricket team and served on the Advisory Board during their inaugural year. In developing the Scorchers brand and activation plan I worked closely with the then Chief Executive, Graeme Wood and then WACA President, Dennis Lillee. Subsequently as Brand Marketing Manager of Rugby WA responsible for the development of the Western Force strategy, brand, activations and digital marketing content. I was responsible for full budgetary accountability and appointment and management of third-party agencies. I have worked in a wide range of industries and organisations including Fairfax Media, Carlton & United Breweries, Perth Airport and Treasury Wines. I am highly proficient in budget management/planning. I was an Acting Director during the period of the City of Perth Council being stood down. In respect to Membership based organisations I have been the chairman of the Leederville Early Childhood Management Committee, a not for profit organisation. I worked with the Board of Kaleidoscope Initiative as a mentor working with migrant professional women to integrate into Perth and develop their professional careers. My wide ranging experience across a number of industries and companies has equipped me to deal directly with government and agencies at senior level. I have been nominated to the Board by Sam Gannon, former WACA Chairman, State and Test cricketer. Nicola Brandon Candidate
Dear Members Thank you for the opportunity you have given me to sit on the WACA Board for the past 3 years and I was honoured when asked by the WACA Board to take over from Ken Michael as Chair last October. Many exciting things have happened over the past three years and the WACA Board has worked hard to see them come to fruition. The future looks bright for our great game in WA. In addressing the desirable skills as articulated for the WACA Board I present the following: Member Based Organisations – Having been a part of sporting clubs my whole life I am acutely aware of the importance of Members to an organisation. I wish to ensure Members have a great experience at every touch point of our organisation and the Board Directors play a key role here. Business and/or Political Networks – Through my business, political and sporting life I have developed many good contacts within business in Perth and across the State and have been able to bring my network to the WACA as required in many different areas. Dealing with and Lobbying Government – Being a member of State Parliament for 16 years, Minister for Sport and Recreation for 6.5 years has greatly assisted me in our important dealings with Government. Having a strong cricket background as a player, development officer, coach and administrator gives me a great understanding of cricket in WA. I would be honoured if you saw fit to elect me for a further term. Terry (Tuck) Waldron Candidate
Dear Members I seek your endorsement to be appointed as a Member Elected Director because I believe I have the skills identified to help deliver the WACA’s strategy over the next three to five years. My current role is RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs where my responsibilities include government relations, media, internal communications, community education and sponsorships. My previous roles include Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary of a national member organisation and Strategic Priorities for WA Sport Reference Group Member. I am Deputy Chair of Football West, Chair of the Australian Automobile Association’s Policy Forum, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I am experienced in accountability across member organisations, business and government, including as a former adviser to an Australian Government Minister and Chief of Staff to the Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation. As a Chief of Staff I have built transferable skills and understanding of infrastructure, events and programs across community and sporting associations, and governing entities including Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria, MCG Trust, Melbourne Cricket Club, Melbourne Olympic Park Trust, State Sport Centre Trust and Victorian Major Events Company. Cricket plays an important role in our lives and makes a wonderful contribution to our community. This is why my focus is on ensuring we have the funding and programs available for active cricketing communities, to deliver infrastructure and events, and provide the opportunity for every cricketer, no matter what age or ability, to reach their potential. Thank you for considering my nomination. Will Golsby Candidate
