Florida B.E.S.T. What are standards? Standards are student-centered expectations from which all curriculum, instruction and assessments are based. Adapted from FLDOE.org/standardsreview
Benchmark The Florida Benchmark Advance curriculum is grounded in the science of reading and designed for remote and on-site learning. Foundational skill standards are covered in systematic lessons that develop essential background knowledge and content vocabulary.
Benchmark Assessment System • Administered one-on-one with teacher • Given at least 3 times per year • Extensive training and rubric used to assess decoding, fluency, comprehension, and writing
Accelerated Reader • Make essential reading practice more effective for every student. • Personalize reading practice to each student’s current level. • Manage all reading activities including read to, read with, and independent reading. • School-wide and grade-level recognition and awards • Build a lifelong love of reading and learning. • Parents can sign up for alerts to monitor their child’s usage!
• i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that will help your student’s teacher determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. Personalized Diagnostic Instruction Personalized lessons based off Administered 3 diagnostic score or teacher times per year assignment Taken at Students in grades 1-5 must complete 2 lessons per school week in math and reading Can be done at home
• Students will be practicing their writing and grammar through texted based writing and process writing.
Students will write: •Narratives – write to tell a story •Informational – write to inform using facts •Opinion – write to explain an opinion with evidence •Poetry We will use the writing process: •Prewriting/Brainstorming/Planning •Drafting •Revising (self and peers) •Editing (teacher) •Publishing *not every piece will be published
Thinking Thinking Maps are consistent visual patterns linked directly to eight specific thought processes. By visualizing our thinking, we create concrete images of abstract thoughts. These patterns help all students reach higher levels of critical and creative thinking.
• Students will receive a GoMath consumable textbook • Math instruction that is developmentally appropriate and meets the B.E.S.T. standards Enhanced and Supported with: -Differentiated Instruction: Intervention to Enrichment activities (centers) -Support materials -Essential Vocabulary -Grab and Go Centers -Leveled books support concepts and skills -Online Math Manipulatives and Videos -Daily Math Drills -Animated Math/Mega Math

Social • Research shows that content areas are best taught when integrated in the Reading block

Homework Homework is important to each student’s educational experience: • Reinforce skills taught in the classroom • Provide the student with an opportunity for independent practice • Study classroom materials • Explore and master skills more thoroughly than class time allows • Encourages responsibility, study skills, and self-discipline • Homework will be given Monday through Thursday. • School board policy 10 minutes per grade level • Make-up Work: For every absence, the student is allowed 2 school days
