TRANSNATIONAL MEETING November 05th to 11th Monday, Nov 5th Italian host families and teachers will meet their guests from Heilig Hartscholen at Capodichino Airport, in Napoli. ( 11 am) Italian teachers: Maria Grazia Serpe, Rosa Marrazzo. Pupils are welcomed at school by the headmaster, Mrs Principe. Free afternoon with the family. Tuesday, Nov 6 th We meet at 9:00 at Bar Fiorillo, Ercolano to reach the Excavations of the old city of Pompei, the ancient Roman town which was buried by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD. Pompeii was lost for nearly 1700 years before its rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city during the Pax Romana. Today, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with approximately 2.500,000 visitors every year. The Università Popolare del Musical e dello spettacolo, con sede in Boscoreale, and the headmaster, Ms Ina Perna, have offered us a free guided tour of the old Roman city. We will be guided through the old decumani and cardi by an official guide of the archeological site. Italian teachers: Carla Cante, Roberto Raiola Free afternoon with hosting families. Wednesday, Nov 7 th We meet at 9:00 at Bar Fiorillo, Bus leaves for Napoli. Teachers and students will spend the day touring the city centre of Napoli. The tour will include some of the Decumani of the ancient Graeco-Roman city, churches from the Middle Ages, Renaissance up to 17th and 18th century, Castel Nuovo (or Maschio Angioino), Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace and Castel dell’Ovo. Massimiliano, an official guide will be with us in the old city centre to guide us around. After lunch, we have a bus tour of Posillipo. Italian teachers: Piero De Luca, Carla Giammona. Expected arrival time at Ercolano: 5:00-5:30 pm. Pupils have their own evening program.
Thursday, Nov 8 th We meet at 9:00 am (Bar Fiorillo). A bus will take us to Positano, a small village on the Amalfi coast; the little town has had a reputation as a tourists resort for ages. It has always attracted artists and standard tourists for the pleasant climate and the scent of its lemon and orange blossoms. We are going to have lunch on the beach, (pupils bring their lunch packet or look for a light meal in local coffee shops) Italian teachers : Maria Grazia Serpe, Stefania Cardillo. Expected arrival time in Ercolano: about 6:00-6:30 pm . Evening with the families Friday, Nov 9 th We meet at 9 am at the circumvesuviana station to reach “Vesevus High School”. We will be welcomed by the headmaster of the school, Peppe Montella. Students will be divided into mixed-nationality groups and join the following workshops (approx. starting time:10,30): 1.English Drama (coordinated by Eddie Roberts) 2.Creative ceramic (UPAM teacher) 3 Dancing (Titti Scarpati). 4.Decoupage: UPAM teacher The Open University has offered us their cooperation involving a decoupage and ceramic teacher to increase the number of workshops for our Belgian and Italian students. Lunch break: 12:45-13:45. After lunch students will present the results of their workshops in the school auditorium. Italian teachers: Imma Grazioli, Roberto Marotta, Titti Scarpati. Evening with the hosting families. Saturday, Nov 9th Belgian students and teachers spend the day with their hosting families. Hosting families may arrange a trip to the top of Mount Vesuvius. It is one the best known volcanoes on earth; it dominates the Bay of Naples with its characteristic cone. It is a typical example of a volcano in a volcano made by an outer broken cone, Mt. Somma (1133 metres) with a crateric belt most of which is destroyed. In it there is a smaller cone, the Mt. Vesuvius (1281 metres), divided by a valley named Valle del Gigante (Giants Valley), a part of the ancient caldron where in a later period, perhaps during the 79 A.D. eruption, the Gran Cono (Great Cone) or Mt. Vesuvius arose. Sunday, Nov 10th Morning with host families. Lunch at home. Departure of our Belgian friends; we meet at Capodichino Airport, Departue Lunge at 3:00 pm.
