Organised By: Supported By: IFCN ASIAN-OCEANIAN CONGRESS ON CLINICAL 30 January to 1 February 2021 *Postponed from 9 to 12 April 2020 NEUROPHYSIOLOGY Virtual Congress: www.aoccn2020.com info@aoccn2020.com PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
Welcome Message from Convenors of 7th AOCCN Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN), it is with pleasure that we invite you to the 7th Asian-Oceanian Congress on Clinical Neurophysiology (AOCCN). The Congress was originally planned to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 9 - 12 April 2020. However, following the COVID-19 outbreak, the Committee made the decision to postpone the Congress to 30 January - 1 February 2021 and as international travel restrictions will likely be in place for the foreseeable future, the Congress will now be delivered on a virtual platform. Clinical neurophysiology plays an important role in medicine, particularly within the field of neurosciences. Accurate clinical diagnosis and procedural monitoring rely on well-executed neurophysiology and a greater understanding of disease pathophysiology and therapy can be achieved through research in clinical neurophysiology. It is thus not surprising that the field of clinical neurophysiology has seen rapid growth in recent years. With support from the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) and its Asian-Oceanian chapter, the 7th AOCCN aims to provide delegates with a fundamental overview of the role of clinical neurophysiology in diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system as well as showcase the recent advancements and latest technology in this field. Our programme will include plenary lectures, workshops and scientific symposiums, featuring international and regional speakers. In line with the MSN and IFCN’s commitment to education, we will be offering free registration to delegates thus allowing AOCCN to be accessible to a global audience. In these unprecedented times, we will make every effort to ensure that the 7th AOCCN continues to provide delegates with a rewarding experience. Professor Dr. Nortina Shahrizaila Congress Convenor Chair of Clinical Neurophysiology Section, MSN Associate Professor Dr. Ai-Huey Tan Congress Convenor President of MSN 2
Welcome Message from the IFCN President International Advisory Faculty IFCN Committee Dear Colleagues, President Professor Walter Paulus “Learning is like rowing upstream; not to advance Past-President Professor Mark Hallett is to drop back.” According to this Chinese proverb, Secretary Professor Renato Verdugo the need for the exchange of knowledge remains strong, and the IFCN Executive Committee Treasurer Professor Aatif Husain commends the Asian-Oceanian Chapter for Editor-in-Chief, CLINPH Professor Ulf Ziemann their effort to host the Asian-Oceanian Congress Editor-in-Chief, CNP Professor Margitta Seeck during these challenging times. With great pleasure and also great expectations, I invite you on behalf of the International Federation of Asia-Oceania Chapter Professor Ryusuke Kakigi Clinical Neurophysiology to join the virtual Asian-Oceanian Congress North America Chapter Professor Donald Sanders on Clinical Neurophysiology from 30 January until 1 February 2021. This conference takes place right in between the IFCN meetings Europe, Middle-East, Professor Jonathan Cole in Washington 2018 and 2022 now Geneva (due to Covid-19, the Africa Chapter Congress was switched from Melbourne). Latin America Chapter Professor Jorge Gutierrez The wealth of scientific and research content at the AOCCN reflects the spectrum of established knowledge on an educational basis and contributions outlining future developments in world-wide clinical About International Federation of Clinical neurophysiology. The AOCCN sessions will showcase how Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) Neurophysiology is an indispensable diagnostic tool and a further emerging therapeutic field. Also, for many neighboring areas such The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) as neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, neurosurgery, and specialties has member societies in 62 countries. The main goal of the IFCN is such as epileptology, movement disorders, peripheral neuropathies, to promote education and the highest level of practice in Clinical myopathies, intraoperative monitoring, sleep disorders, Neurophysiology to improve health. neurorehabilitation, and others, this conference will provide a unique opportunity for updating knowledge and networking. Beyond these clinical aspects, the IFCN also promotes the transfer of basic human neurophysiological knowledge incorporating translational elements coming from animal experiments, computational neuroscience, studies on consciousness, neuroimaging, and many more. Having seen the organizational efforts so far, I am convinced that Professor Ryusuke Kakigi representing the Asian-Oceanian Chapter, and Professor Nortina Shahrizaila and Associate Professor Ai-Huey Tan representing the local organization, will organize an extraordinary virtual event. Last but not least, I wish you continued good health, and I am hopeful that we will be meeting in-person again soon. We are looking forward to connecting virtually during the AOCCN. Professor Walter Paulus President International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) 3
