PROFILE: MADIBANI SAMUEL MANWADU He is one of the oldest people in the village of Khakhanwa. Many people are unaware that, Mr Man- wadu, who is affectionately known by friends and family as”Mr Rich”, was born blind. Before living alone in his dilapidated mud house, Mr Rich lived with his elder brother’s sons (Mbon- iseni and Nwagu), who looked after him. His brother’s youngest son (Nwagu) was forced to move out of the home because his mud house had collapsed due to heavy rains. His only sister currently lives with her family in another village about 20kms away from Khakhanwa. As he lives on his own, he is forced to wash his own clothes, but struggles to prepare his own meals or clean the house. At times, his granddaughter brings him porridge as she also lives alone in her home; both her parents are working on farms in Mesina more than 100 kms away. Mr Manwadu’s has to walk more than 700m to the local shop to get his daily meal, which consists of bread and one or two bananas, he gets this mostly on credit. He spends most part of his days sitting at the back of his house alone. He shows signs of stress as he sometimes says things that don’t make sense. The intervention by Sirovha Foundation & Steven Zondo Foundation has brought Nwagu back to the house to cook and wash for him. The two foundations have built for him a five roomed house which has electricity.. Beds have been supplied to the house. BEFORE AFTER 5
PROFILE: MR MUDAU KHOROMMBI WILLIAM He is unemployed, unmarried, and has no children of his own. At over 60 years of age, Mr Mudau still does not qualify for government pension due to a date of birth error made in his ID book. He lives in a very small mud house without a proper door. He did not have the opportunity to attend school as his parents were too poor to pay for his education. He has two or three pairs of trousers and often walks around the village bare-footed as he cannot afford a pair of shoes. The intervention by Sirovha Foundation & Steven Zondo Foundation has made him own a proper house for the first time in his life. The two foundations have built for him a five roomed house which has electricity connections. Beds have been supplied to the house. Consultation processes with Home Affairs Department have commenced to rectify the ID book. BEFORE AFTER 6
PROFILE: MAEMU NKHUMELENI MELTA She is 31 years old and unemployed. She has two beautiful daughters, Fu- nanani and Ompha who are both learners at Ramavhoya high school. Her right to privacy is compromised as she is forced to share the same room with her children who are already teenagers. They are often ridiculed and teased by other children at school about their home environment. She has hearing problem, and uses a hearing aid device. The intervention by Sirovha Foundation & Steven Zondo Foundation has made her own a proper house for the first time in her life. The two founda- tions have built for her a five roomed house which has electricity 3 Beds have been supplied to the house. BEFORE AFTER 7
PROFILE: MULOTO ALPHEOUS MUDIVHANI He is an old age pensioner who lives in a dilapidated small hut alone. He has been using this “house” as a bedroom, sitting room and kitchen. The wall of the house has many wide cracks and the so called makeshift door has no lock handles. Therefore everybody has access to his belongings at any time of the day. The intervention by Sirovha Foundation & Steven Zondo Foundation has made him own a proper house for the first time in his life. The two founda- tions have built for him a five roomed house which is fitted with electricity. Beds have been supplied to the house. BEFORE AFTER 8
PROFILE: MRS TSHIKUKUVHE MARANDELA This is an old woman who is very popular in the village of Khakhanwa. She has three children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is 87 years old and loves singing and praising God. She is not living in her home as there is no house good enough to live in. It has been her dream to get some- one to build at least an ordinary house that she would call home. She is not happy to live where she is living now. She hopes to come back home one day. The intervention by Sirovha Foundation & Steven Zondo Foundation has made her own a proper house for the first time in her life. The two founda- tions have built for her a five roomed house which is electrified. Beds have been supplied to the house. BEFORE AFTER 9
