mmi- pro-file 4.26.21 Top TOP PROGRAMMERS SPEAK OUT ON programmer RESEARCH, MMI AND KEEPING IT REAL Steve Kingston President WRNR-FM Terrestrial has the cume, and the same delivery systems available as digital. Keep your talent and music content compelling, brand your local station as opposed to just branding “corporate.” There’s an easy way to accomplish both. OWN IT!! Chris Taylor Operations Manager Flinn Broadcasting 107.5/WHBQ/B96.3/Hot107.1 You guys at Monday Morning Intel are on to something with the way you track music. I am taking a fresh approach to CHR with this new station. I want it to sound active tapping into the big records that are trending. You have to dig a little deeper into the metrix rather than just look at 1 chart. The “Action Category” you guys put out is very similar to the new records I seek out. Michael Martin SVP of Programming/Head of Music Initiatives Audacy Younger Demos? Don’t be contrived. Don’t pander. Truly understand and reflect them in every way. If you don’t understand them, put people around you that do and listen to them. Don’t hire jocks. Hire people who can communicate every way the audience is communicating. Put your product on every platform the audience is using to consume content. Talk to them via every piece of tech they are using to communicate and do it in their language. Their bs detector is on high so they will sniff out and reject anything that isnt authentic. And the reality is authentic doesn’t have to sound like a polished disc jockey. It just has to be real.
Mike McVay President McVAY MEDIA I think that is accurate and smart Top-40 Program Directors are watching the DSP’s to see what’s getting the most attention. What songs are being listened to the most on the streaming services? Those songs are hits. Programmers can find many of these tracks listed in MMI’s Action section. You have to stay connected to the street. You have to know your audience. Jeremy Rice Top 40 Format Leader CMG WBLI Director of Programming and Branding It’s always a combination of art and science. I love research but when you see consumption on great new artists like The Kid Laroi and Olivia Rodrigo the time is NOW. Play the BIG hits and be aggressive with the right records. intelevision mmi- 4.26.21 Check out these videos hand-picked by our staff! NESSA BARRET FT. JXDN - “LA DI DIE” TikTok: the new launching pad, without a doubt. Nessa Barret took off like a rocket, by amassing a bazillion followers through lip-syncing and comedy skits. Now she lands her craft squarely on the airplay charts, with the dark and angst- filled rocking pop smash “La Di Die.” This not-so-glamorous salute to teen fame shows us how ‘too much, too fast, too young’ can have lethal consequences - unless you find a fast car and escape. For a ride in the fast lane, click here! CARLA MONROE - “SHAPES” There is so much great music on the global charts. Modern digital discovery has made it a friggin’ playground for finding hits growing on other trees! From the UK comes Carla Monroe, with a stellar made-for-radio dance energy bomb called “Shapes.” The hybrid lyric/music video is simple but captures the groove that’s playlist-perfect for summer. If you wanna experience some ‘Shapes-shifting’, click here! TWENTY ONE PILOTS - “SHY AWAY” All Twenty One of these Pilots know how to capture the modern sound of pop-rock with a retro spin. The crafty design of “Shy Away” fits in a lot of formats’ pockets and kicks the door open for a wide net of radio exposure. This video clip features lots of hooks and costume changes with a few bagged heads for the full effect. Don’t be shy, click here! THE KID LAROI - “WITHOUT YOU” Looking at the chart numbers “The Kid” Is clearly growing up. Australia’s new super-nova, The Kid Laroi, is running hot and cold with this heartbreak smash, “Without You.” This clip comes with a snow-mobile, a bonfire and a cake-in-your- face finale! Click here! BRYNN ELLIOTT - “TELL ME I’M PRETTY” Atlanta’s Brynn Elliott is a total groove. She’s jointly signed to Atlantic and Nashville’s uber-cool Big Yellow Dog. methodology UNDERSTANDING EACH OF THE 6 KEY COMPONENTS CHARTS/POWERS: 1 AIRPLAY is calculated by Trailing 14 Days of radio airplay on the Key Influencer radio stations – Top 157 radio stations by Average Quarter Hour. Charts are weighted using currently assigned points in Mediabase…100% point value for Morning Drive, 90% for Afternoon Drive, 80% for Mid-days, 70% for nights, 50% for Overnights. 2 RETENTION is calculated by listener Tune-In and Tune-Out using trailing 6 weeks, weighting the most recent week double, and the five weeks prior equally. 3 NATIONAL CALLOUT contemplates more than 1,000 respondents weekly in four regions geographically equivalent over the trailing 14 days of calls. 4 STREAMING, AUDIO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way. 5 STREAMING, VIDEO contemplates trailing 14 days of all streaming. Songs with insufficient data are designated with an “x”. These songs do not affect the Total Performance Score in any way. 6 SALES is base on 14 days trailing results. Songs with insufficient data are designated as PENDING. Pending songs do not affect Total Performance Score in any way. HOT ZONE / DEVELOPING All five components listed above are contemplated. Songs moving up and increasing significantly in TWO or more categories are designated in the Hot Zone. Other new releases are designated as Developing. RECURRENTS Recurrents are a simple calculation of songs that have trended downward and no longer qualify for Current status. Trailing 14 days are contemplated, along with 6 weeks of Retention Data, and are computed on a 50/50 level of importance. ACTION Songs that are testing either in Callout or in Retention significantly higher than current Airplay rank. These songs are considered UNDEREXPOSED and deserving generally of greater airplay. STREAMING AUDIO, VIDEO AND SALES Streaming Audio and Video, and Sales, are based on trailing 14 days data. All major streaming services are used wherever possible, along with sales. NOTE: Hot AC Callout information is provided as stand-alone information. This data does not factor into the main chart rankings in any way.
