Failure to do so will result in my removal from TSI. □ Meetings of the Board of Directors will be on a regular basis, not less than twice a month, and a minimum of five (5) hours per week will be required to fulfill my obligations as a member of the Board. I will also be available to attend and assist with all TSI facilitated events. □ I swear to act in and promote the best interests of TSI during my term. Failure to do so may result in my removal from the Board of Directors. 3 Who are Thames Students Incorporated (TSI)? The Student Government at Thames Campus is known as Thames Students Incorporated (TSI). It is a non-profit organization founded for the benefit of all Chatham Campus students. TSI was established in 1978 and its main purpose is to act as an alliance between the students at the Chatham Campus and St. Clair College. TSI handles all formal complaints and concerns submitted by students. TSI consists of (6) Directors and the Executive Vice President, who are elected annually. TSI also has one full-time President, one full-time General Manager and one full-time Secretary. The TSI offices are located at the far end of the Chatham Campus, just past the cafeteria. TSI is responsible for the operation of Bean & Barley, Carl’s snack bar, the study lounge, and the student centre spaces. The Student Centre facilities a pool table; Ping-Pong tables; a washroom; and an outdoor patio with picnic tables and barbecues. All students are welcome to use the Student Centre and study space at their leisure. TSI also offers a wide range of events and services that are available to all Chatham Campus students: • class representatives • management of student centre • volunteer opportunities • employment opportunities • health plan Facilitators • distribution of student cards • entertainment and awareness programming; • seed-money and special event funding of campus clubs; • social media communications; • giveaways and promotions; • advocacy on postsecondary issues at the provincial and federal levels; • consultative assistance for students’ disciplinary hearings, academic complaints, and grade appeals; • the operation of the campus food pantry; • services and assistance to student-parents and their families; • community outreach (including the support of local charities) TSI is working hard this year to plan and implement many new events and services that will benefit all students. Our goal is to get everyone at the Chatham Campus involved. There are calendars located in the Student Centre, academic wing, hallway of the cafeteria, and an information board located outside room 100, so please refer to these often to gather information about upcoming events. 5 Job Title: General Director Position Overview General Directors are nominated by their peers and hired by the executive committee of TSI. Reporting to the President and working collaboratively with all employees, the General Director is accountable to the Board and represents and advocates for the needs and interests of students. Serves as a liaison between students on their campuses and the broader college community. This is a volunteer position that will change as the needs of the students and student’s association require. Employment Terms : Part-time, working minimum 5 hours weekly. • Ensures constant and consistent interaction with the student population, as well as all College departments and bring feedback to the Board • Be knowledgeable about Association and College affairs and events • Participates with the Executive GM and President in a monthly meeting. • Raises awareness of and promotes TSI programs, services and activities and post/remove/distribute promotional materials • Completes administrative duties as required while completing office hours • Participates and completes all training (board orientation, workplace discrimination and violence prevention, health and safety, conflict/dispute resolution, mental health awareness, WHMIS, Smart Serve etc.) • Understands and acts in compliance with the TSI bylaws, policies and procedures, the Corporations Act, Human Rights Legislation, and all applicable laws, as well as all St. Clair College rules, regulations, statements, and policies • Maintains confidentiality when appropriate and or directed on items deemed personal or sensitive in nature • Provides timely initiation and response to email (ensuring appropriate contacts are included in any correspondence), telephone calls and on-line interactions from constituents, TSI and College staff and other external partners • Participate actively and act as a voting member of the TSI Board of Directors • Attends and represents TSI at all external functions as directed by the President and/or the GM, represents TSI • Attends Conferences at the request of the President and/or GM, and reports to the board • Participate in regular meetings, to be held at least once a month with the President and/or GM to ensure understanding and awareness of campus specific initiatives • Provides oversight and determine allocation for the campus activities budget • Develop strategies to raise awareness of TSI, programs, activities, and services • Works collaboratively with the President and Vice-President to plan and execute events at their campus, and ensure appropriate and timely promotion • Maintain academic good standing throughout their service with TSI • Be able to responsibly handle cash, cheques, and other forms of money TSI Director Application 2021/2022
