Hidden amongst the deep lanes of West Devon is an
 award winning, off-grid sanctuary. Designed to offer
 cosy and comfortable, year round accommodation,
 the private site comes complete with two
 extraordinary, solid timber cabins, sleeping up to
 four and up to six. Both are kitted out with
 everything you need for a stress free break.

The woodland is surrounded by glorious, Devon countryside. There are
plenty of walks down quiet lanes and footpaths to explore, taking in local
pubs and delightful villages. We are keen as mustard to promote the
fantastic local produce which can be ordered in advance, and veg from
our own kitchen garden is sometimes available, too.

 So if it’s calmness you seek, in a special place that is
 people and planet friendly, come and enjoy the
 sound of birdsong and the gentle murmuring of the
 stream. Tune out of the constant backdrop of news
 and noise and immerse yourself in nature.
 Welcome to Devon Dens 

Our aim is to appeal to those wishing to escape this (sometimes) wonky
world whilst protecting the environment and creating a place where you
can reconnect with nature, without distractions from technology or the
constant update of news.

Devon Dens is a great place to use as a base for exploring the area,
walking, cycling or swimming. (Walking boots are advisable – this is
Devon and there will be undoubtedly be mud!) We’re big fans of West
Devon, which we think is the quieter side of Devon, and the south west’s
best kept secret. There’s castles, churches, dramatic gorges, cycle routes,
secret Dartmoor dipping spots and the site is within easy reach of some
of the finest beaches (and ice cream…) in Britain.

Cider, bacon, sausages, local organic eggs and milk, cheese, cake, apple
juice - we’re proud as punch of the delights on offer in the area and can
provide you with local goodies as chosen by you. In summer, we love
having our own produce to offer guests, grown on site (slugs permitting!)

Devon Dens calls out to those who care deeply about the environment,
who have an interest in nature, walking, food, wildlife, getting outdoors
and discovering the hidden delights of this unspoilt region.

The Site
 The woodland is located 8 miles from Okehampton and
 Dartmoor, and 22 miles from the gorgeous North Cornwall
 beaches.
 In the few years since buying the land, we’ve cleared
 extensive areas of willow and bramble, planted hundreds of
 hedging trees, created an edible hedge, as well as lots of
 beautiful birch.

 The pond and reed beds are part of the natural water filter
 process. No swimming (for dogs or people) unfortunately.
 Please only use the eco toiletries provided, as chemicals will
 damage the reeds
In summer, the poly-tunnel and raised
beds (hopefully!) burst into life. Supplies
permitting, fresh, home-grown salad, veg
and herbs from our kitchen garden are
available for guests, with flowers also
provided. We are still in awe of our
amazing Freedom hives – a pioneering
new (or ancient) take on bee keeping. We
now have two hives on site – please bring
necessary treatment if you are allergic

The Den
This brand new for 2021 space makes a perfect place to hide, rest and explore. It comes fitted out with the following –

The Cabin
The beautiful Cabin is the perfect spot for spending time with loved ones. It comes fitted out with the following –

• Bedroom with king size bed • Internal shower room • Saucepans, frying pan
• 2 x single mattresses on the mezzanine • Internal dry toilet • Plates, bowls, cups, beakers, wine tumblers
• 2 x sofa beds • Solar PV for lighting • Cutlery, bottle opener, ladles, serving spoons
• Pillows & all bedding • Power capacity for 2 devices • Very sharp brand new knives!

• 2 ring gas burner • Torches • Books and games
• Gas oven & grill • Tea, coffee, sugar • BBQ / Fire pit

What we provide
• 1 x basket of wood for the wood burner + 1 x load of fire pit wood (£5 a bundle of each thereafter)
• A 500ml bottle of delicious local cider and apple juice. If this doesn’t suit your food preferences, please tell us &
 we can adapt to suit
What you need to bring –
• Food (See list on separate sheet with details of local produce we can supply. There are also supermarkets in
 Okehampton as well as a brilliant farm shop, Harvest, and Martins Butchers)
• Wellies – it’s Devon!
• A willingness to share our eco ethos (please bring as little plastic as possible & recycle everything)
• There is no mobile phone reception or WiFi on the site • Please note – we do not iron bedding!
• This is an off-grid site – hairdryers, hair straighteners etc will not work in the cabins!

Prices & Details
• Prices vary depending on season and which structure you would like to stay in. Please click on our “availability & booking”
 section on the website and use the calendar to find prices.
• The site has been left as wild and natural as possible, and whilst children are very welcome at Devon Den, parents take full
 responsibility. There is open, deep water without fences, the mezzanines don’t have rails and the wood burners do not have a
 guard. There are also areas out of bounds such as the veg garden, reed beds and pond and the bee hives. We have lots of
 families stay – and return (see our Facebook reviews to see what guests think) however please do use your judgement about
 whether it is the right place for your family at this stage.
• Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in both cabins, with the following caveats -
• They MUST be kept under control AT ALL TIMES – we are surrounded by livestock and sheep ravaging is not an option!
• Please pick up all poo and dispose of it in the bin provided
• Please bring dog beds and PLEASE do not let dogs on the furniture.
• Devon Dens is a QUIET SITE - if you're looking for a wild and noisy weekend, I’m afraid it's not for you. We trust you will respect
 our neighbours and the tranquillity of the Devon landscape.
• Family groups welcome (sleeps up to 10 in the cabins with the option of further camping). A deposit of £200 is required for
 groups at the time of booking.
• Guests have an option to take out Booking Protect which will offer cover in the event of illness (including covid), redundancy,
 vehicle breakdown or adverse weather conditions. It DOES NOT cover for travel restrictions or having to self-isolate
• In the event a booking does get caught in in a travel restriction, we will either refund all money paid less £50 admin, or re-
 arrange depending on the guests preference.

Local produce
We provide 74cl of McG apple juice and 500ml of Sandford Orchards cider (both vegan and gluten free).
If this doesn’t suit your food preferences, please let me know and we can adapt it to suit. You are able
to order the following, delicious produce in advance. I need to know at least one week before your stay
to allow me time to gather supplies.

• Local charcoal – half a sack £7
• Sandford Orchards delicious Devon Mist cider 6 x 500ml bottles £18
• A basics hamper – loaf of local bread, 2pts organic milk and 6 organic eggs,
 small pot of local honey £10
• A breakfast hamper – Loaf of local bread, 2 pts organic milk, 6 organic eggs, 8 rashers of smoked bacon, 6 sausages both from
 local butcher, small pot of local honey £20
• A BBQ hamper - burgers, pork chops, chicken for kebabs with herbs for marinading For two £15 For four £27.50
• An afternoon tea hamper – AMAZING local cake (either coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle or carrot), selection of local cheeses
 with crackers and chutney (enough for up to 6 people – will keep for several days) £27.50
