Day 1: Arrive in Quito Sites of interest: Ecuador’s capital, Quito, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 for its colonial architecture that has been impressively preserved. You will land at Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Tababela, just east of Ecuador’s capital city where your guide will be waiting to take you to the hotel near the airport. Rest up for your morning flight to the Amazon! Quito, colonial city and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978 named so for its colonial architecture. The city´s namesake was the Quitus tribe who lived in the area before Inca rule, and later the Spanish who founded the city of Quito in 1534. Day 2: Arrive at Yasuní National Park Sites of interest: Arrive in Yasuní National Park and Reserve, the largest protected area in Ecuador! Explore its abundant biodiversity as you cruise through the Ecuadorian Amazon. Breakfast will be arranged for you at your hotel before you leave. The adventure begins in the capital city of Quito. After a short, 30 minute flight from Quito to Coca, located in the San Francisco de Orellana province at the meeting of the Napo and Coca Rivers, you will head to the dock before boarding a motorized canoe that will take you down river approximately an hour and a half. On the way you will have a first look and listen at the Amazon rainforest in Yasuní National Park You will arrive at the Manatee where your luxurious accommodations await! Once situated in your cabins, your local, experienced guides will give a brief introduction to the Ecuadorian Amazon. Afterward, you and your fellow passengers will take a tour of the vessel: social spaces, comfortable suites with decks for admiring the changing landscape of the rainforest. From there, set sail along the Napo River! After dinner, take to the forest for a night hike. Listen to the nocturnal symphony, breathe in the night air and feel the world of biodiversity around you. Day 3: Visit Lake Pañacocha and Kayak Sites of interest: Paddle through the streams of the Ecuadorian Amazon and discover the most biodiverse ecosystems in the country. Start the day off with breakfast on board. The adventure continues down the Pañayacu River, where you head out yet again via canoe to explore the mysterious waters of this marine reserve. Pañacocha Lake is an ecosystem of blackwater rivers. Pañacocha means “Piranha Lake” in Kichwa (an indigenous language of the Andes and Amazon). This protected area of the rainforest is home to nine primate species, 500 bird species and over 100 species of fishes. It makes ideal habitat for piranhas, the monkey fish (Arawana) and the white caiman. In this little corner of paradise, explore the forest as much as possible on hikes guided by your experienced naturalists and relax at a nearby campsite where you’ll have the chance to taste some Amazonian barbecue and refreshments. After lunch, paddle on the lake in kayak and, if you’re feeling adventurous, take a swim in Piranha Lake! Back on the boat, there will be the option to attend a presentation given by one of the naturalists as well as see an educational film about the region. Day 4: Visit Indigenous Community Sites of interest: Parrot-watching, hike through primary forest, and authentic experiences in the Añangu and Kichwa communities where ancestral traditions are still alive and well. Breakfast on board! This morning you will set off on another canoe adventure to check out one of the most unbelievable places in the Western Amazon: “los saladeros.” Parrots, parakeets and other animals frequent this watering hole where they can hydrate and take in the healthy salts and minerals in the clay. You might see up to 11 different species of parrots! Later on, make a stop at the Kichwa Culture Center, to learn about Amazonian communities along with their cultures, traditions and ancestral cuisine. The local community members will tell you of their ways of life along the Napo River and you will have the opportunity to support their traditions by purchasing souvenirs in the form of their artisan crafts. Just before sunset, you will check out an observation tower for a 360 degree, immersive jungle life experience in the treetops. Ornithologists and birders alike will especially appreciate this outing! Day 5: Return to the Andes Sites of interest: Return to the Andes to the thermal volcanic springs of Papallacta at 10,600 feet! Breakfast on board. Our adventure comes to an end! You will head back to Coca in a motorized canoe once more for approximately an hour and a half. In Coca, you will take your return flight to Quito where private transportation awaits to take you to Papallacta for a soak in the country’s most well-known hot springs. Day 6: Relax in the Hot Springs of Papallacta You will have breakfast at the hotel before seeing the sights of Quito. Terms and Conditions Ecuador Emotions will always make a conscious effort to adhere to the programmed itinerary. However, the order of events may be modified and/or certain visits eliminated due to circumstances beyond our control (weather and sea conditions, strikes, public authority decisions, road conditions, and the discretion of local tour operators). Ecuador Emotions will not be held responsible for extra costs due to late or cancelled transportation for whatever reason. It is also the responsibility of the client to abide by the baggage restrictions enforced by the airlines (overweight baggage fees will be paid by the passenger directly). Moreover, flight rates are subject to change without notice. Ecuador Emotions recommends that their clients make sure their passports are valid during the programmed dates of travel as well as find out if a visa is required for them to enter the country. Ecuador Emotions suggests that their clients consult their doctor before traveling, especially to ensure that their health will not be at risk at altitude.
