I am very happy to know that for the year of 2018 – 19, PSG Tech Alumni
Association has organized a plethora of purposeful programmes
involving the participation of large number of PSG Tech Alumni.
I appreciate the great efforts put up by the team of office bearers, and
the council members in making this year highly effective. I wish all
our alumni and their families to achieve laurels in their professional
and personal lives.

PSG Tech Alumni Association has again shown its unique position as
one of the most active associations. I am very happy that the parent
chapter of the association and the other chapters have organized many
get-together events like Alumni Congress, Alumni Reunions, Family
get togethers, Felicitation meetings, etc., thus facilitating a strong
networking for the Alumni. I wish that the Association conducts
many such purposeful programmes in the upcoming years as well.

It gives me great pleasure to reach you through this column. Both
myself and the office bearers deem it a pleasant opportunity to serve
the alma matter in a small way by assuming certain responsibilities
with cooperation of the Management and the alumni. I wish to thank
the chief Patron and Patron for their guidance and support. I owe a
great deal of gratitude to my fellow office bearers, council members
and the chapter representatives for their roles in implementation of the
various programmes throughout the year.

Coimbatore. The welcome Elocution
address was delivered by

Secretary, PSG Tech Alumni Association. The Presidential address was given by Dr. B. Giriraj, Principal, PSG
Polytechnic College. The Special Guest address was by presented by Dr. R. Arumuganathan, Professor &
Head, Department of Mathematics. About 24 Colleges participated in the contest.
The Prize winners were presented with cash prize and certificates. Participation Certificates were provided to
all the Participants. The contest was conducted under three categories - Engineering Colleges, Arts & Science
Colleges and Polytechnic Colleges with the topics of ‘PÚÄPÒ ö©#¨£h ÷Ásk®,’ ‘GßøÚ E¸ÁõUS®

Engineering stream, PSG College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore for Arts Stream and G.R.G Polytechnic College,
Coimbatore for Polytechnic Stream.

PSG Tech Talent Test for
GRD Rolling
Trophy
In Memory of the great scholar and philanthropist
Prof. GRD, PSG Tech Alumni Association has been
conducting the ‘PSG Tech Talent Test’ for the past 32
years for the students of IX and X standards. The
main objective of this contest is to test the students
for their knowledge in Basic Sciences and Current
Affairs, thereby helping them to improve their
general aptitude.
On 2nd October 2018, 33rd PSG Tech Talent test for
GRD Rolling Trophy for Tamil medium and 23rd
PSG Tech Talent Test for English medium was
conducted at Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem, Trichy,
Madurai, Neyveli, Hosur, Erode, Ooty, Sivakasi,
Tuticorin, Namakkal, Trivandrum, Tirupur, Pollachi,
Ramanathapuram, Hyderabad. The Test was taken by 1613 students, from 219 schools. The GRD Rolling Trophy
was won by Veveham Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Dharapuram for the test in Tamil Medium and
TVIS Velammal Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai for the test in English Medium.
The Prizes and Awards were distributed on 22nd December 2018.

Alumni Congress
The Formal inauguration of Alumni Congress was held on 22nd December 2018. Over 800 Alumni with their

family members participated in the event. The welcome address was rendered by Mr. K.P.M. Muthukumaran,

Chairman, Alumni Congress 2018. Mr. R. Balaji, Secretary briefed about Alumni Congress 2018. Following
that a speech about PSG Tech Alumni Association was given by Mr. D. Nandakumar, President, PSG Tech
2019
Alumni Association, and Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Patron, gave the Presidential Address. The Chief Guest of the
Congress was Mr. M. Ponnuswamy, Managing Director, Pon Pure Chemicals, Chennai and Chairman of CII
Tamilnadu State Council. In his address he said that if a person is an entrepreneur he has to play by the rule.
He advised the young entrepreneurs in the gathering to ‘Take care of the small things in business as equally
as they give importance to the bigger ones.’ A Special address was given by Mr. Madhu Bhaskaran, CEO of
M/s Samagara Progressive Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Cochin. His speech was wholly about life. He said
‘Parents should give their children practical experience & show them the value of life and how precious it
is to live every day.’
The Souvenir of Alumni Congress 2018 was released by Mr. M. Ponnuswamy and received by the Chapters’
Chairmen.

Alumni whose batches have conducted their Golden Jubilee reunions, normally qualify as Senior Alumni of the
PSG Tech Alumni Association. Till date, 18 Golden Jubilee reunions have been organized under the auspices
of the Alumni Association. Around 40 Senior Alumni attended the function. Mr. R. Mylswamy, Vice-President,
PSG Tech Alumni Association and Mr. V. Krishnakumar, Council Member, PSG Tech Alumni Association
honoured the Senior Alumni.

13Young Alumni Awardees
Alumni who have graduated after 2008 comprised the forum of Young Alumni. At this forum young alumni
who are early achievers were recognized with awards. Alumni to qualify for the award should be less than 35
Alumni years of age and should have a track record of outstanding contribution to profession, society or public cause.

Chennai Chapter
● The AGM for 2018 was held on 29th September at Greenpark, Vadapalani. 110 alumni attended this meeting.
● Chennai chapter organized the PSG Tech Talent test on 2nd October 2018 at Anna University. About 48
Students from 10 Schools participated in this test.
● A Family get together and picnic was organised on 27th January 2019 at Camp Gloria, Chennai. About 120
members including Alumni and family members participated in the event.
● A Talk Show on “DNA of Successful Entrepreneur” was held on 23rd March 2019 at Kaar Technologies,
Chennai by Mr.Srikanth (BE’88 Mech), Consultant Entrepreneur. About 25 Alumni members attended the
event.

● A Family get together at the residence of Mr. V. Govindasamy, an alumnus, was arranged on 20th May 2018.
Members from 7 families attended and enjoyed the meet.

members enjoyed the meet with memory of old
film songs shared by ladies and gents.
● A Family get together was arranged at the
residence of Mr. S. Pongiannan, Chairman, on
10th Mar 2019. Variety of lunch items prepared in
the alumni houses were brought and shared. As
part of entertainment, Thambola was conducted
by Mrs. Vasantha Govindasamy. Members from

● The AGM for 2018-2019 was held at Maaniya Resort, Shoolagiri on 7th October 2018. Around 110 members
attended the meeting. Dr.R.Rudramoorthy,Principal,PSG College of Technology attended the meet.
• Mr.Vivekananda, COO of TITAN, delivered a lecture on ‘Industry 4.0’on 8th January 2019. Around 40
entrepreneurs, Hosur Chapter Alumni members and Industrialists attended the programme.

Bengaluru Chapter Formation
The Bengaluru Chapter was launched on 20th January 2019 by Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Principal, CT and
Mr. LKM Adhi participated in the event. As an interim arrangement, 3 office bearers in the capacity of
Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer were elected to officiate the Bengaluru Chapter.

● PSG Tech Talent Test was conducted at Madurai Meenakshi Matric Hr. Sec School campus on 2nd October
2018. About 90 Students from 20 schools participated and certificates were issued on the same day. The
winners of the PSG Tech Talent Test were invited to participate in the Annual Day to get their certificates.

● Trivandrum Chapter organized the PSG Tech
Talent test on 2nd October 2018. 12 schools
participated in this test out of which 46 students
were from English medium and 5 students were

● Hyderabad Chapter Executive Committee Meeting was held on 16.06.2018 at Chit Chat Chai. The
meeting was attended by Mr. Krishnakumar R Sennar, Chairman, Mr. Krishnan Ganesan, Secretary,
Mr. Arul Balasubramanian, Joint Secretary and Mr. Sumer Mal Jain, Treasurer.
● Hyderabad Chapter Annual General Body Meeting was held on 21.07.2018 at the Community Hall
of Harivillu Apartments, Lakshmi Priya Nagar, Manikonda, Hyderabad. About 30 Alumni attended the
meeting. Mr. Leela Kumar Kaza, Vice Chairman gave an interactive live presentation on Entrepreneurship.
Mr. Navin, a Young Alumni from Bangalore spoke on ‘Stand Up,’ a thought provoking speech for young
Alumni graduating out of college. Mr. Sriram, HR Manager, Arcesium India Private Limited and our
Alumni spoke on Personality Development. Other Alumni also shared their experience and contributed
for the benefit of all Alumni.

2019
● At present PSG College of Technology offers 21 UG, 42 PG and PhD programmes.
● The overall student strength of the college stands at 8447 which includes 3150 girl
students.
● A total strength of 5700 students stay in the hostel, of which 1900 are girl students.
● PSG College of Technology is able to perform exceedingly well with the dedicated
service of 596 teaching faculty and 389 supporting staff.
Accreditation
During this academic year four UG programmes, namely, ECE, Metallurgy, Production and Textile technology
were accredited. As on date, 30 programmes (15 UG and 15 PG) are accredited out of 44 programmes which
are eligible for accreditation.
● The College has been accredited for the first time with 'A' Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC), New Delhi.
● The College has been ranked at 44th place under Engineering College category and 76th place in overall
category by NIRF, MHRD, New Delhi.
● The Institute of Management has been ranked at 37th place under Management School category by NIRF,
MHRD, New Delhi.
R&D
● PSG CT has been identified by AICTE as one among 59 nodal centres for selection of full time PhD students
under its new scheme.
● All the departments of the college are recognized for Doctoral research work. At present 554 part time and
217 full time scholars are pursuing their PhD programmes at PSG College of Technology. During this year,
61 scholars have obtained their PhD degrees.
● Faculty have published more than 590 papers in National and International Journals and conferences.
● Six (6) International Conference, Eight (8) National Conferences, forty five (45) National Workshops and
Seminars and seventy five (75) Faculty Development Programmes and Short Term Programmes were
organized this year.
● 11 MoUs were signed with various organizations facilitating student training, staff training, consultancy,
joint projects, etc.
● Equipment worth rupees 4.7 crores were added during the year.
● 14 research projects with a total funding of Rs.7.6 crores were sanctioned by various organizations like
AICTE, UGC, DST, DBT, SERB, NRB IEI, BIRAC and DHI to PSG College of Technology during this
academic year.
● More than 850 organisations used the services of PSG College of Technology faculty for training through
continuing education programmes, testing and consultancy services, through which more than Rs.3 crores
revenue was generated.
● During this current year, 1954 UG students received scholarships from different Government and other
agencies amounting to a total value of rupees Two crores and Five lakhs. Gate Stipend of Rs. One Crore
and Forty Four Lakhs were sanctioned to 194 PG students.
● Sri Shiv Nadar, an Alumnus of PSG Tech and Founder of HCL, has instituted
GRD Centenary Scholarship. Every year four students, two boys and two girls, are receiving Rs.1.1 lakh per
year per student for four years from first year onwards. At present 16 students are receiving Rs.21,60,490
under Shiv Nadar scholarship.
● Cognizant Foundation awarded scholarship for 4 students at Rs.45,000/- per annum per student for four
years.
38 ● The overall pass percentage of the students in 2018 end semester examinations was 92.24.Placement Activities
Eight hundred and thirty five (835) Engineering and Science students have been placed out of 1297 opted, in
110 companies during the academic year 2018-19 as on 24.04.2019.

Student Activities 2019
● The Students Union and affiliated clubs conducted events like KRIYA 2019, INTRAMS, Blood donation
camps, NSS & NCC activities (etc.) with flying colours.
● Baja SAEINDIA is an annual event conducted every year by SAEINDIA at Pithampur, Indore, Madhya
Pradesh. A group of 24 students along with one faculty attended the event between 22nd and 27th January
2019. Our team reached 8th position out of 581 teams.
NSS
● NSS team has bagged various awards under Anna University. The best NSS programme officer award was
received by Dr.C.Veeramani, ‘Best NSS Volunteer Award’ by Ms.N.S.Varshini and Mr.P.Palaniappan.
● A seven day special camp was held at five villages during December 2018 and nearly 270 volunteers
participated.
NCC
● The strength of Army wing of NCC has been raised from fifty two (52) to one hundred and eight (108)
and has been made Battalion Headquarter Company. The overall cadet strength in the college is 276 and
all 40 regular parades were conducted. International Yoga Day, Seminar on Swatch Bharath and Waste
management, Voters Day Awareness Rally were organized by NCC team.
● Cadets have attended Annual Training and centrally organized Camps. Cadet Parambveer Shringa and
Cadet V Mounikha attended Republic Day 2019 Camp at Delhi and took part in Rajpath March past and
Prime Minister Rally besides participating in various National Level Competitions. Major Dr.M.D.Kannan,
Company Commander, Infantry Wing NCC has been adjudged as ‘Best NCC Officer‘ by NCC Coimbatore
Group and awarded ‘Award of Excellence’ by Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and Andaman Nicobar and
Directorate, Chennai.
Sports Activities and Functions organised by Students
● PSG College of Technology won the Anna University Zone
- 9 Overall Championship by winning many titles. In the
men section Basketball, Chess, Kho-kho and Tennis teams
won the winners title. Women teams won the Badminton
and Chess titles.
● In the Anna University Inter Zonal tournaments, Tennis
men team secured second place. In the 9th CENTIES
Championship, men team won the Handball and Chess
titles; runners in Basketball; Women team won the
Badminton title and were runners in Chess game.
Library
● Nearly two lakh and forty seven thousand five hundred and seventy seven books (2,47,577) are available
in our Library. In addition, 10 International journals and 239 Indian journals are being subscribed in the
library.
● Subscription to online journals, database and purchase of books for a worth of Rs.125 lakhs was done

PSG POLYTECHNIC
COLLEGE NEWS
PSG Polytechnic College conducts totally 15 Diploma Programmes with an overall student strength of 1751
which includes 229 girl students.
During this year, Scholarships to 267 Polytechnic students to a tune of about Rs.15,53,775 was provided
through Government of Tamilnadu and other sources of funding.
Equipment worth Rs 38 lakhs have been added during this year.
This year, six staff members have been awarded with Doctorate Degree.
