ALUMNI ATHLETES IN THE NEWS 2019-2020 FALL SEASON Cydnie Martin CK’17 is in her senior season playing defender for the Bowdoin College Polar Bears Field Hockey Team. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Bowdoin earned the two seed in the NESCAC Tournament. The Polar Bears were upset in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championships. Cydnie played in 6 games. In 2018, Cydnie played in all 11 games with four starts and had 1 save. As a freshman, Cydnie splayed in 3 games and started in one game for the 10-7 Polar Bears who advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals. Cydnie was an All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Field Hockey Team and a varsity letter winner in Track and Field. Joey Files CK’15 completed his college football career playing tight end and special teams for the 17th ranked Michigan Wolverines football team. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten for the 3rd straight year and at the Team Banquet received the Bob Ufer Award for Leadership! The Wolverines played the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Citrus Bowl. Last season, Joey was named Scout Team Player of the Week for Northwestern and earned playing time against Western Michigan and Nebraska. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2017 and 2018. Files was a 3-sport athlete for the Cranes and was an All-State, All-Catholic League, and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the Football Team; All-Catholic League captain of the Basketball Team; and a defenseman on the 2015 State Champion Lacrosse Team.
Jalen Allen CK’17 completed his senior season playing running back for the Lions of Columbia University. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, the Lions had their first back to back winning season since 1962. Jalen was an Honorable Mention Academic All- State and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the CK Football Team and was a varsity letterman in Track and Field. Tristan Knoer CK’17 completed his senior season playing linebacker for the Big Red of Dennison University. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Tristan played in 9 games, started in three and had 6 solo tackles, 6 assists and 1 sack on the season for the North Coast Conference Champions. In his sophomore season, Dennison clinched their first North Coast Athletic Conference Football Championship in 32 years and received their first NCAA Playoff berth since 1985! The Big Red drew national powerhouse Mount Union in the first round. Tristan led his team in tackles with 55 (29 solo/26 assists), had 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and a pass break up. As a freshman, Tristan played in all 10 games and was a special team standout for the 7-3 Big Red recording 9 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, one forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery on the season. Tristan was an Academic All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Football and Baseball teams. Trevor McConnell CK’18 completed his junior season playing quarterback for the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern. Unfortunately, the season was cancelled due to COVID. Last season, Trevor was the number 2 quarterback on the depth chart and completed 1 of 4 passes for 7 yards and 1 TD on the season. As a freshman, Trevor led the junior varsity offense to gain valuable playing experience. Trevor was an AP Honorable Mention All-State, Detroit News Honorable Mention All-State and All-County North, and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes District Champion Football Team and was a letterman on the CK Baseball Team.
Pierson Cooke CK’18 completed his redshirt sophomore season as a kicker for the Commodores of Vanderbilt. Pierson connected on his first career field goal attempt from 33 yards against Texas A&M. Pierson also kicked off and had a 61 yard average. Last season, Pierson handled kickoff duties and had 29 kickoffs for a 62 yard average! Pierson was a 1st Team All-State, AP Honorable Mention All-State, Detroit News 2nd Team All-State and All-County North, and All-Catholic League kicker for the Cranes District Champion Football Team. Christopher Smith CK’18 completed his junior season playing defensive tackle for the Crimson of Harvard. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Chris recorded his first fumble recovery against Columbia and had 10 solo tackles and 11 assists 1.5 sack. As a freshman, Chris had 2 solo tackles, 9 assists and a half sack. Christopher was captain of Cranbrook’s first District Championship Team and was 2-time All-State and 4- time All Catholic League. Smith was also captain for the CK CHSL Championship Basketball Team. Marqis Stokes CK’18 is in his redshirt sophomore season playing defensive back for the Oilers of Findlay. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Marqis had 5 solo tackles and 8 assists this season. As a freshman, Marqis sustained a season ending knee injury. Marqis was an All-Catholic League and Honorable Mention All-County captain of the District Champion Cranes Football Team and a State Qualifier and Regional Finalist as a sprinter for the Cranes Track and Field Team.
Torrell Williams CK’19 is in his redshirt freshman season as a walk-on member of the Michigan State Spartans. Last season, the Spartans defeated Wake Forest in the New Era Pin Stripe Bowl 27-21. Torrell was an Honorable Mention All-County and All-Catholic League captain of the District Champion Cranes Football Team. Torrell was also an Honorable Mention All-State, All-Detroit News honorable Mention All-North and All-Catholic League captain of the CK CHSL Champion Boys Basketball Team and a letter winner on the CK Track and Field Team. Danny Files CK’19 completed his redshirt freshman season playing football for the Crusaders of Valparaiso. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Danny was an All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Football Team and a varsity letter winner on the CK Basketball Team and Track and Field Team. Jack Fairman CK’20 in is his freshman season playing linebacker for the Quakers of U Penn. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Jack served on the 2018-20 MHSAA Student Advisory Council for two years and was a ten Sport Varsity Letter winner. Jack was a 2 time MVP and captain of the Cranes Football Team …earning AP 1st Team All-State, Honorable Mention All-State, Detroit News Honorable Mention All-North Team and 3 time All-Catholic League honors. Jack was an All-League captain of the CK Basketball team was an All-Region, 2 time All-District and All-Catholic League honoree and MVP for the Cranes Baseball Team. Jack also served as a CK baseball team captain this spring during this unfortunate pandemic. Nathan Frankel CK’20 is in his freshman season playing football for the Amherst Mammoths. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Nathan was a varsity letter winner for the Cranes Football Team and Baseball Team. Will Kerr CK’20 is in his freshman season playing football for the Spartans of Case Western Reserve. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Will was a Detroit News Honorable Mention All-North and All-League captain for the Cranes Football Team. Will Maxwell CK’20 is in his freshman year playing football for the Knights of Carleton College. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Will was a varsity letter winner for the Cranes Football Team. Tariq Muhammad CK’20 is in his freshman season playing football for the Amherst Mammoths. Honorable Mention All-North, All-Catholic and All-League captain for the Cranes Football Team. Devin Deogun CK’17 is in his senior season as member of the Michigan State Spartan Golf Team. Last season, Devin earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten (for the second straight year) and was the Spartan’s Scholar Athlete Award recipient with the highest GPA on the team. As a sophomore, Devin placed 1st in the Pioneer Creek Collegiate with an 11 under par, placed 7th in the Challenge of Champions, 66th in the Marquette Intercollegiate and 79th in the Grandover Collegiate Tournament Devin was an individual State Champion, All-State, All-Region and All-Catholic league captain of the Cranes Regional Champion Golf Team. Charlie Eriksen CK’19 is in his sophomore season playing golf for the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College. Last fall, Charlie tied for 6th in the Duck Lake Invitational and was 46th in the Lou Collins Invitational and earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll! Charlie was an All-Catholic League captain for the Cranes Golf Team. Kaela Mali CK’17 is in her senior season starting as a defenseman for the Knights of Carleton College. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Kaela earned United Soccer Coaches All North Region 3rd Team and All-MIAC recognition. Mali is one of seven players across the conference to land a spot on the All- MIAC team in both 2018 and 2019, and she became the 21st player in the history of the Carleton women's soccer program voted to multiple All-MIAC teams. In 2019, Mali logged a team-high 1,582 minutes at her centerback position, seeing the field for 98 percent of the possible time. Her play helped Carleton post five shutouts and finish the season with a 1.00 goals against average, fourth-best in the MIAC. The Knights fell in the quarterfinal round of the MIAC Championships.
Last season, the Knights posted a strong defense, posting 6 shutouts and Kaela was recognized on the All-MIAC Team. Kaela scored her first college goal in her freshman season. Kaela was an Honorable Mention All-State, All-Region, All-District, All-Catholic League and Academic All-Catholic league captain for the Cranes Soccer Team and was a varsity letterman in Track and Field. Colin Canning CK’18 is in his junior season as a goalkeeper for the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Collin scored 1 goal (as a forward) on the season for the Yellow Jackets who earned a bid in the NCAA Division 3 Championships. The Yellow Jackets defeated Hanover in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament and were defeated in the 2nd round by Kenyon College. Last season, the Yellow Jackets advanced to the Final Four Round of the NCAA National Playoffs for the first time in school history. Colin was a 3rd Team All-State, All-Region, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Conference goalie for the Cranes Soccer Team. Colin was also captain and State Championship Qualifier on the CK Track Team and a letter winner on the CHSL Championship Basketball Team. Zach Buvalic CK’19 is in his sophomore season playing soccer for the Fightin’ Engineers of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, the Engineers advanced to the NCAA National Tournament after falling to Hanover in an overtime shootout for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Zach started all 20 games and was a key defender for the HCAC’s top ranked defense. Zach recorded his 1st college assist on the season in a win over Anderson. Zach was an All- State, All-Region, All-District and All- Catholic League captain of the Cranes State semi-finalist team. Tony Yazbeck CK’19 is in his sophomore season playing soccer for the Hornets of Kalamazoo College. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID.
Last season, Tony was named SAAC Hornet of the Week in September after scoring the winning goal against 18 ranked North Park! Tony scored 2 goals and had 1 assist on the season after a knee injury ended his freshman season. The Hornets fell to Hope College in the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament but advanced to the NCAA National Tournament for the 7th time in school history. The Hornets fell to Centre 1-0 in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. Tony was an All-State, All-Region, All-District and All-Catholic League member of the Cranes State semi-finalist team. WINTER SEASON Sam Hauxwell CK’20 is in his freshman season playing basketball the Tiberwolves of Northwood University. Sam was an All-League captain for the Cranes Basketball Team. Angie Wiater CK’18 is in her junior season playing hockey for the Mammoths of Amherst College. Last season, the 3rd ranked Mammoths defeated Connecticut College in overtime at the NESCAC Quarterfinals then the season was suspended due to COVID. Angie scored 7 goals and 1 assist on the season. Angie scored her first college career goal last season against Connecticut College and scored 2 goals and had 2 assists the season. The Mammoths defeated Trinity in the NESCAC quarterfinals and fell to top seed Williams in the Semifinal. Angie was a member of the National Champion 16 U AAA Team in 2017 and an All-American, Academic All-American, Academic All-State, 2nd Team All-State, All-Catholic League and Academic All-Catholic League member of the CJ Girls Lacrosse Team. Angie played for 4 State Championships for Cranbrook, (winning two in 2017 and 2018). Chad Langlais CK’05 (Michigan) played defenseman for the professional hockey team Rouen in France Last season Chad scored 4 goals with 20 assists on the season. In 2018-19, Chad scored 7 goals with 33 assists for the Rouen. Langlais also skated for the Les Rapaces de Gap also in France, the Sheffield Steelers in England, Belfast Giants, Trenton Titans, Arizona Sundogs, Evansville Icemen and Dayton Gems during his professional career.
While playing for the Michigan Wolverines, Chad scored 13 goals and had 68 assists. He holds the school record for 173 consecutive games played; helped Michigan reach the NCAA Frozen Four title game and was an All-CCHA performer. Chad was an All-State member of the CK Boys Hockey Finalist Team of 2005. Casey Wellman ’06 (University of Massachusetts Amherst), skated for the Kunlun Red Star of the KHL and has 3 assists. Last season, Casey skated for the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in Switzerland and scored 9 goals with 13 assists on the season. In the 2018-19 season, Casey scored 17 goals and had 9 assists on the season. In the prior season, Casey skated for the SOCHI Canadian Hockey team and scored 10 goals with 21 assists. In 2016-17, Casey skated for the Frolunda HC in Sweden and had 14 goals and 19 assists. Casey has played for the Moscow Spartak of the KHL, Hershey Bears, Washington Capitals, San Antonio Rampage, Houston Aeros, and Minnesota Wild since his college graduation. Wellman was Minutemen Hockey East All-Academic and UMass Rookie of the Year. In 73 games, Casey recorded 34 goals and 44 assists. Casey was Captain and an All-State member of the 2006 State Champion Hockey Team. Andrew Miller CK‘07 (Yale) is skating for the Kunlun Red Star of the KHL. Last season, Andrew scored 11 goals with 20 assists. Andrew is the son of Cranbrook Director of Admissions Drew Miller. In 2018-19, Andrew skated for the HC Fribourg-Gotteron of Switzerland and had 11 goals and 16 assists. In the prior season, Andrew skated for the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL Carolina Hurricanes and scored 15 goals and with 37 assists on the season. Miller agreed to terms to play for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2017-18 after ranking 3rd in points and 2nd in assists for the Charlotte Checkers despite missing 21 games due to injury in 2016-17. Miller scored 11 goals and 30 assists last season. Andrew scored his first NHL goal for the Edmonton Oilers and became only the sixth NHL player to score his first goal on a penalty shot. Miller scored 42 goals and had 114 assists in his career as captain of the Yale Hockey Team. Andrew led the Yale Bulldogs to the National Championship in 2013; earned the NCAA Tournament MVP; and was an AHCA All-American and an All-ECAC performer. Andrew was Captain and an All-State State member of the CK 2007 State Champion Hockey Team and an All-American/All-State Cranes lacrosse player. Miller owned the record for
combined goals and assists in Cranbrook lacrosse history and was a member of the 2006 State Championship Team. Jake Chelios CK’09 (Michigan State) is skating for the Kunlun Red Star (Russia) of the KHL and has 1 goal with 3 assists. Last season, Jake scored 2 goals with 11 assists on the season. In 2018-19, Jake skated for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL and had 1 goal with 14 assists as a defenseman. Jake was brought up to the Redwings for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and contributed to the Redwing win over the Devils. In 2017-18, Jake skated for the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL and scored 4 goals with 10 assists this season. Chelios had 4 goals and 28 assists in 2016-17. Chelios has also skated for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. Jake played for the Spartans of Michigan State where he scored 17 goals and had 37 assists leading all Spartan defensemen in scoring during his senior year and was Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. Chelios was also a CCHA Rookie of the Year as a freshman. Patrick Brown CK’10 (Boston College) is skating for the Vegas Golden knights. Last season, Patrick skated for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and has scored 7 goals with 14 assists on the season. In 20118-19, Patrick skated in the NHL playing for the Charlotte Checkers and scored 19 goals with 16 assists on the season. Patrick was brought up to the Carolina Hurricanes for the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs where he helped the team defeat the Washington Capitals in a game 7 thriller then added ice time to help defeat the New York Islanders and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals where they were eliminated by the Boston Bruins. In 2017-18, Patrick was chosen Captain for a second season and scored 7 goals and had 20 assists for the Checkers. Patrick scored his first NHL goal and added an important assist in the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 win against the New York Rangers in 2015. Brown served Boston College as team captain that scored 15 goals with 15 assists his senior year and became the first player in Hockey East to score 2 short-handed goals in regular season play. Patrick scored 21 goals and had 22 assists in his collegiate career and was a three-time Hockey East All-Academic athlete.
Patrick was a Dream Team, All-State, All MIHL and All County captain of the Cranes 2010 State Championship Team and was a varsity letter winner on the CK Lacrosse Team. Cameron Heath CK’12 is skating for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL. Last season, Cam skated for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits after being traded from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Cam had 2 goals with 3 assists on the season. Cam played last year for the South Carolina Stingrays after his college career where he had 2 assists. Cam played collegiately for the Golden Griffins of Canisius College in the Atlantic Conference and scored 4 goals and had 19 assists his senior season. Cam was selected as Defensive Player of the Week in November. Heath’s career 25 goals were the 3rd most by a defenseman in school history. His 53 assists were the 2nd most for the Griffs in 21 seasons. After the season, As a junior, Cam scored 7 goals with 14 assists and was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Atlantic Hockey Conference in the victory over American International earlier in the season and was awarded Top Defenseman honors for the 2nd straight year. Heath earned 1st Team All-Atlantic Conference honors. The Griffins were knocked out of the Atlantic Hockey Conf. championships in the semifinals by Air Force. Can earned AHCA All-American Scholar Awards in 2017 and 2018. In his sophomore season, Cam scored 7 goals and had 11 assists, and was honored as the AHC Defenseman of the Year for the second straight year and earned 2nd Team All-AHC with 46 blocked shots on the League leading defense. Cam was also recognized on the Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team. Cam was noted as being a key piece to the defense that led the League in scoring defense, goals allowed and penalty kill percentage. Cam was 12th in the NCAA Division 1 in defensemen with game winning goals and in power play goals scored. Heath helped the Griffs win its first Atlantic Conference Championship. Canisius posted the second longest unbeaten streak this season with 17 consecutive wins. As a freshman, Heath led all defensemen with 16 points, scored 7 goals and had 9 assists ranking him third in Atlantic Hockey among defensemen. Cam netted his first freshman goal against Ohio State. Cam earned Top Defenseman honors, becoming the 4th Griffin rookie in school history to earn the accolade and was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team. Since graduation, Cam skated for the New Jersey Hit Men of the USPHL and the Islanders of the PAL, was the League’s second leading scorer in 2014 and third leading scorer in 2015 and made the All-Star Team for both Leagues. Heath was an All-State and All-Catholic captain of the 2012 Cranes Hockey Team.
Christopher Brown CK’14 is skating for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Last season, Christopher scored 11 goals and has 8 assists on the season. Christopher signed with the Pittsburgh affiliate Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins college where he had 1 assist. Christopher was a 2-year captain for the Boston College Eagles Hockey Team and had 7 goals and 9 assists on his senior season. The Eagles lost to Northeastern in the Hockey East Championship. As a junior, Brown scored 9 goals and 10 assists as the Eagles claimed their 16th Hockey East Conference Championship but were knocked out of the Hockey East semifinals by Boston U. As a sophomore, Brown scored 9 goals and had 17 assists to be the Eagles leading scorer. The Eagles finished 21-15-4. Christopher scored 2 goals and had 9 assists as a freshman for the Hockey East League Co-Champions to help his team advance to the Frozen Four of the National Championship tournament. Brown played junior hockey for the Green Bay Gamblers for one season after graduation and was the leading scorer on the Gamblers’ roster with 13 goals and 19 assists in 43 games. Brown was a captain and All-State performer on the CK Boys Hockey Team and Boys Lacrosse Team and was drafted in the NHL by the Buffalo Sabres after his senior year while playing hockey for the Cranes. Austin Alger CK’15 is in his senior season skating for the Golden Griffins of Canisius College. Last season, Alex scored 5 goals with 16 assists on the season to finish 5th on the team in points. Austin earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic honors for the 2nd straight year. As a sophomore, Alex transferred to Canisius from Miami of Ohio and scored 12 goals with 16 assists and was second on the team in scoring and points. Alex was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month in December and earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic honors. Austin played his freshman season skating with his brother Alex for the Miami of Ohio Redhawks. Austin scored 2 goals and had 2 assists.
Prior to college, Austin skated with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. Alger was traded to the Lumberjacks mid-season and had 4 goals with 15 assists. Prior to the trade, Austin had 12 goals and 12 assists with the Lancers and was named the USHL Forward of the Week in December. Austin had 11 goals and 12 assists for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL in his inaugural season. Austin has committed to joining his brother to play for Miami of Ohio next season. As captain of the 2015 Cranbrook hockey Team, Austin led the Cranes to the State Championship earning him All-State and the coveted Michigan Mr. Hockey trophy. CJ Regula CK’16 is in his sophomore season skating for the Buckeyes of Ohio State University. Last season, CJ had 3 assists on the season. The Buckeyes finished the season ranked 10th in the Nation and tied for 2nd in the Big Ten Conference Tournament that was cut short due to COVID. Prior to attending Ohio State, CJ skated for the Shreveport Mudbugs of the NAHL after being traded from the Minnesota Wilderness and the Muskegon Lumberjacks. CJ had 1 assist for the Lumberjacks, 4 goals and 5 assists with the Wilderness and had 6 goals with 23 assists with 1 goal and 2 assists in the playoffs with the Mudbugs. CJ had 3 goals and 8 assists for the Rays and 6 goals and 4 assists for the Wilderness last season. Regula skated for the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL in 2016-17 and scored 7 goals and had 13 assists. CJ was a member of the 2015 CK Boys Hockey State Championship Team. Stephen Friedland CK’16 is in his sophomore season skating for the Lions of Lindenwood University as a goalie. Last season, Stephen and had a .96 save percentage. The Lions claimed their 3rd straight Central States Collegiate Hockey League Championship with a 5-0 shutout against Illinois. The Lions had earned the #3 seed in the National Championship Tournament before it was cancelled due to COVID. Prior to Lindenwood, Stephen played goalie for the Evansville Jr Thunderbolts East Coast of the NA3HL after being traded from the East Coast Wizards during the prior season and had an 86% save average. Friedland had 33 saves and 5 goals against for the Wizards in 2017-18. Alex
Lycett CK’17 is in his sophomore season skating for the Jumbos of Tufts University. As a freshman, Alex scored 2 goals with 4 assists on the season. Prior to Tufts, Alex skated for the Waterloo Siskins of the GOJHL and scored 33 goals with 23 assists on the season and another 15 goals with 11 assists during the playoffs. In his first season with the Siskins, Alex scored 26 goals with 23 assists on the season with 1 goal and 8 assists in the playoffs. Alex was a 1st Team All-State, All-County, All-MIHL and All-Catholic captain and a member of the Cranes 2015 State Championship Team. Justin Song CK’18 is in his freshman season skating for the Knights of Arcadia University. Prior to Arcadia, Justin skated for the Rochester Monarchs after skating with the Metro Jets of the USPHL where he scored 7 goals with 17 assists. Justin scored 7 goals and had 15 assists in his first season and was called up to the Boston Jr. Bruins at the end of the season after his strong performance! Song was a two-time 2nd Team All-State and All-MIHL member of the Cranes Hockey Team. Mac Brice CK’18 completed his sophomore season skating for the Violets of NYU. Last season, Mac scored 11 goals and had 19 assists. Prior to NYU, Mac skated for the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL after being traded from Team Maryland where Mac scored 14 goals with 20 assists. Mac was a 2nd Team All-State and Honorable Mention All-MIHL North member of the Cranes Hockey Team and captain for the CK Lacrosse Team. Evan Daldin CK’18 is in his junior season skating for the Concordia Cardinals Last season, Evan scored 3 goals with 3 assists on the season. Evan sustained a fractured collar bone requiring surgery early in his freshman season and had 1 goal with 2 assists.
Julia Feord CK’17 is in her senior season diving for the Bears of Brown University. Last season, Julia took top spot in the 3-meter dive and placed 3rd in the 1 meter against UCONN, a won the 1 meter event against Penn, and took 2nd in both the 3 and 1 meter dives against Yale. At the Ivy League Championships, Brown finished 5th and Julia led the divers placing 13th in the 1-meter dive and 17th in the 3 meter dive events. In her sophomore season, Julia placed 14th in the 3-meter dive and 18th in the 1-meter dive at the Ivy League Championships. The Bears who finished 4th overall. As a freshman, Feord placed 5th in her first two competitions against Yale and MIT. The Bears placed 6th in the Ivy League Championships, were ranked 7th in the nation for best GPA, and named to the Scholar All-American Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association. Julia was a three-time All-State, Academic All-State, two-time Regional Champion, All-Catholic and Academic All-Catholic diver for the Aardvarks. Camille Misra CK’19 is in her sophomore season swimming for the Hornets of Kalamazoo College. Last season, Camille earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll and was named SAAC Hornet of the Week for setting the school record in the 100 backstroke. Camille placed 1st in the 200 backstroke and 2nd in the 50 free against Albion, 2nd in the 100 backstroke against Calvin, 2nd in the 200 IM and 100 free against IIT. Camille also competes on the Hornet 200, 400 free and 400 medley relay teams. At the MIAA Championships, the Hornets finished 4th. Camille and her relay teammates broke the school record in the 400 free relay taking 2nd and they took 3rd in the 200 free relay! Camille also placed 4th in the 50 free and 100 backstroke at the Championships. Camille was a State Champion and State Finalist, 11-time All- State, 3-time Honorable Mention All-State, 8-time All-Catholic League and All-League captain for the Aardvarks Swim and Dive Team and a member of the 2017 CK State Championship Team. Giorgio DelGrosso CK’16 completed his senior season swimming for the Bobcats of NYU. The Bobcats finished 3rd at the UAA Championships. Giorgio was UAA Champion in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, took 3rd in the 200 IM and 200 and 400 medley relays, placed 4th in the 200 freestyle relay and 5th in
the 400 freestyle relay at the UAA Championships. Giorgio earned UAA Athlete of the Week for his accomplishments at the UAA Championships and earned UAA Winter All- Academic Honors. Last season, was a team member and did not compete but was on the IAAC Honor Roll. As a sophomore, Giorgio earned three All-America honors placing 3rd in the 200-yard breaststroke, 4th in the 100-yard breaststroke, and 4th in the 400-yard medley relay at the NCAA Championships. Giorgio also earned one Honorable Mention honor placing 9th in the200-yard medley relay and he helped the 400-yard medley relay team set a school record at the NCAA Championships. Giorgio finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke at the UAA Championships, was on the IAAC Spring Honor Roll, and earned CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention. As a freshman, Giorgio was a member of the Florida State Gators swim team where he competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Giorgio was an All-American, All-State, State Champion and State Record Holder as a member of the Cranes 2014, 2015 and 2016 State Championship Teams. Matthew Yang CK’17 is in his senior season swimming for the Bears of Washington University. Last season, Yang competed in the 50 and 100 free and the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Matthew was also a member of the 200 medley relay that placed 1st against Illinois Wesleyan and 2nd against DePauw. The Bears finished 1st in the Midwest Invite and 5th at the UAA Championships. Mathew finished 11th as a member of the 200 medley relay, placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke and 17th in the 200 breaststroke, placed 32nd in the 200 IM at the UAA Championships. Matthew was named to the University Athletic Association Academic All-Conference Team. In his sophomore season, the Bears finished 2nd in the AUU Championships where Matthew placed 4th in the 100-breast stroke, 9th in the 400 free and 200 medley relays, 17th in the 200- breast stroke, and 41st in the 200 IM. Matthew also earned Academic All-AUU and CSCAA All-America Honorable Mention honors. At the Midwest Invitational, Matthew placed 2nd in the 100-breast stroke. As a freshman, Yang made an impact in the early season as a member of the Bear’s strong 200 medley relay team and scored meet points in the 100 butterfly, 100 & 200 breaststroke and 200 IM events. At the UAA Championships, Matthew finished 8th in the 100-breast stroke, 12th as a member of the 200-medley relay team, 16th in the 200 breaststroke and 31st in the 200 IM. The bears finished 9th at the NCAA National Championships.
Matthew was 9-time All-State finalist, State runner-up in the 100-breast stroke and 200 medley relay and was a leader of Cranbrook’s four State Championship Teams of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Kevin Hao CK’18 is a teammate of Matt Yang as a junior swimmer for the Bears of Washington U. Last season, Hao placed 1st in the 100 free against Illinois Wesleyan and 2nd in the 100 and 200 breaststroke against DePauw. Kevin is also a member of his 200 free and 200 medley relay teams. At the Midwest Invitational, Kevin won the 200-breast stroke and placed 3rd in the 100-breast stroke. Kevin also earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention honors. Kevin was an All-State captain for the Cranes Swim and Dive Team. Kevin State Runner-Up in the 200 IM, 200 medley relay and the 400 free-relay, and was Catholic League Champion in the 100 butterfly and was a Scholastic All-American. Jerome Wiater CK’20 is in his freshman season swimming for the Mules of Colby College. Jerome was a captain of the Cranes Swim and Dive team. Adam Vlasic CK’20 is in his freshman season swimming for the Blue Devils of Duke. SPRING SEASON Grant Reuss CK’14 (Michigan) is a relief pitcher for in the Gulf Coast League for the Detroit Tigers West organization. Grant was drafted in the 29th round, 875 overall, by the Detroit Tigers as a pitcher from the University of Michigan. In his sophomore season, Grant appeared 8 times for the Wolverines bullpen and posted a team low .050 batting average against. Grant tossed a season high 1.2 innings against Indiana, surrendering one unearned run while striking out two batters. He also struck out a career high three batters at Loyola Marymount. Grant earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
As a redshirt freshman, Grant pitched in relief and had four appearances. He made his first career relief appearance against Hawaii, allowing no hits and striking out one. Reuss was an All-District and All-League captain of the CK Baseball Team. Jordyn Finney CK’16 (Albion) just completed his first professional baseball season as a catcher for Utica Unicorns in the United Shore Professional Baseball league (USPBL.) Jordyn was an all-star starter and helped lead his team to the USPBL Championship. Jordyn has been offered a contract for the 2021 season. Jordyn played collegiately for the Brittons of Albion College where his senior season was cut short due to COVID. Jordyn was batting .343 with 1 homerun, 1 triple and 2 doubles and knocked in 4 runs and 11 RBIs before the season ended. In his junior season, Jordyn batted 256, has 13 RBIs, 2nd on the team in stolen bases and threw out 70% of runners in conference play earning him 2nd Team All-MIAA. The Brittons earned their first berth in the NCAA playoffs in 8 years. As a sophomore, Jordyn threw out 40% of the runners and had a .243 batting average with 1 homerun and 8 RBIs and as a freshman, Jordyn earned 2nd Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Association finishing the season with 40 RBIs (tying for 3rd on Albion’s single season list) and had a .455 batting average and 46 hits (3rd on the team). Jordyn started his collegiate career with a 12-game hitting streak and was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Position Player of the Week after hitting a team best .444, catching 7 runners trying to steal, and driving in 3 runs in victories over Wittenberg University and Penn- State Abington. Jordyn was an Honorable Mention All-State and All- District captain of the CK Baseball Team. Jordyn was also an Honorable Mention All-State and All-County captain of the Cranbrook Basketball Team. Alex Finney CK’19 is in his redshirt freshman season playing baseball for the Bobcats of Ohio University. In his freshman season Alex played catcher and had 1 RBI when the season was cut short due to COVID.
Alex was a two-time All-District, All-Catholic League, All-League and MVP captain of the CK Baseball Team. Alex was also an AP, Detroit News, Free Press and Basketball Coaches Assoc. of Michigan Honorable Mention All-State honoree and was a two-time Detroit News All-North and All- Catholic League captain and MVP of the CK Basketball Team. Elizabeth Fairman CK’17 is in her senior season rowing for the Number 1 Nationally Ranked Bobcats of Bates College. Her junior season was suspended due to COVID. In her sophomore season, Elizabeth rowed on the 3rd varsity 8 team. The Bobcats won the 2019 New England Rowing Championship and the 3rd Varsity 8 Team won a thriller over Williams then went on to win their third straight NESCAC Championship. Elizabeth and the 3rd Varsity 8 brought home a silver medal. The win gave the Bobcats an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships where they went on to win their 3rd consecutive National Championship! Elizabeth earned NESCAC All-Academic honors. As a freshman, Elizabeth rowed on the womens novice V8 that went on to win the NESCAC Championship and help Bates complete a NESCAC Championship sweep. At the National Championships hosted in Sarasota Florida, the Bobcats brought home their second straight NCAA National Championship and their third NCAA National Championship in four years! Elizabeth was an Academic All-State captain for the CK Girls Swim and Dive Team and an individual State Championships qualifier in the 200 freestyle. Lauren Baker CK’18 is in her junior season rowing for the Diplomats of the Franklin & Marshall Rowing Team. Last fall, the team had a strong showing at the Schuylkill Regatta with Lauren and crew securing 29th in the Club Championship 8+ event but the spring season was cancelled due to COVID. As a freshman, Lauren was Coxswain of the Womens Varsity 4 that finished 8th at the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships. The Diplomats placed 5th overall. Lauren was two-time captain of the Cranes Rowing Team.
Nikhil Vasan CK’20 is Rowing for the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy. Jaden Bertuzzi CK’17 is in her redshirt junior season playing lacrosse for the Bulldogs of Butler University. Last spring, the season was suspended due to COVID. In her freshman season, Jaden sustained a knee injury requiring surgery keeping out for the season. Jaden was a captain for the Cranes 2017 State Championship Girls Lacrosse Team and an All-State captain of the CK Girls Hockey Team. Isabelle Scane CK’18 is in her junior season playing lacrosse for the Wildcats of Northwestern University. Last season, Izzy scored 29 goals with 7 assists (ranking her 8th in the country) before the season was cancelled due to COVID. She came one goal short of the Northwestern individual one-game record after a herculean eight-goal effort against No. 1 North Carolina. This fall, Izzy was invited to the tryouts for the United States women's national lacrosse team that will compete at the 2021 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship. She was one of 6 underclassmen and one of four Big Ten players to receive a tryout invite (out of 20 Division I invites). A record 30 nations are expected to compete in the 2021 championship at Towson University. This is the first time the women's world championship has been held in the United States since 2005. As a freshman, Izzy scored Northwestern's first goal of the 2019 season in 12 seconds, which is the fastest first goal of the season in program history. Scane went on to record a second goal, scooped up three ground balls, secured four draw controls and a caused a game- high four turnovers versus Louisville. Izzy earned 7 consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors (the most of any freshman since the award was created) for outstanding performances against Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Maryland, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Penn State, Marquette, and Rutgers. Izzy scored 62 goals (2nd in the Big Ten) with 18 assists and has 59 draw controls on the season and earned 2nd Team All-American, All-West/Midwest Region and All-Big Ten honors, was voted unanimously as Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team!
The Wildcats defeated Michigan to advance to the Big Ten Championship against #1 ranked Maryland then defeated the Terrapins 16-11 to win the Big Ten Championship. In the NCAA Championships, the Wildcats defeated Notre Dame13-9 (Izzy scored 4 goals), advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and defeated Syracuse 18-14 to earn a spot in the Final Four and a rematch of the Big Ten Championship with top ranked Maryland who ended the Wildcats season with a 25-13 win. Isabelle was also selected to the U.S. U-19 Spring Premier at Stanford University this January. The Spring Premiere featured six teams: the U.S. senior and U19 teams, along with teams from England, Japan, Fresno State and Stanford. The age-eligible players on this squad range from juniors in high school to sophomores in college and the mix of experience blended well as the U19 team beat England 18-8. The team opened the Premiere with an 18-1 victory over Japan's developmental team in an exhibition game. Four years after Canada stunned the U.S. in Scotland, the Americans dethroned the host Canadians with a 13-3 victory in the World Lacrosse Women’s U19 World Championship final in Peterborough, Ontario. Isabelle Scane picked up her second Player of the Match title for the Gold Medal game. Team USA swept the international competition, winning all seven games it played by a combined margin of 128-20. Attacker Izzy Scane was named to the All- World team. Isabelle was a varsity letter winner in the sports of Lacrosse and Field Hockey where she served as a captain of both teams. In the sport of Lacrosse, Isabelle was the most prolific scorer of goals and points in MHSAA history. Isabelle earned three-time All-American, Academic All- American, four-time 1st Team All-State, Academic All-State, and four-time All-Catholic League honors in the sport of lacrosse. Isabelle was selected to the Under Armour All-American Team to compete in the 13th Annual Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Games and was honored as the Detroit Free Press Female Lacrosse Player of the Year. In Field Hockey, Isabelle earned Academic All-State, 2nd Team All-State, and was two-time All- Catholic League. Isabelle was a finalist for the Catholic League Female Athlete of the Year and a Finalist for the Detroit Athletic Club Female Athlete of the Year Award. Scane was a member of Cranbrook’s first and second MHSAA State Championship Teams in 2017 and 2018, and Cranbrook’s first Finalists in 2015 and 2016.
Sophia Milia CK’18 is in her junior season playing lacrosse for the #1 ranked NAIA Bees of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Last season, Sophia scored 13 goals with 9 assists before the season was cut short due to COVID. In her freshman season, Sophia scored her first college goals in their win against Erskine College and scored 16 goals with 10 assists on the season. The Bees were looking to three-peat as the NAIA National Invitational Champions and defeated Lawrence Tech 22-10 in the quarterfinals then Keiser 17-8 in the semi. The Bees went on to defeat Benedictine College 18-12 to win the NAIA National Championship!!!! Sophia was a two-time 2nd Team All-State, All- Catholic League and All-League member of the Cranes 2017 and 2018 State Championship Teams. Sophia was also a varsity letter winner on the CK Volleyball Team. Olive Stevens CK’18 is in her junior season playing lacrosse for the Bulldogs of Adrian. Last season, Olive scored 13 goals with 3 assists before the season was cut short due to COVID. As a freshman, Olive led the Bulldogs in their home opener win over Lourdes and scored 4 goals and added four draw controls and finished the season scoring 28 goals with 5 assists and 45 draw controls. Olive was an Honorable Mention All-State and All-League member of the two-time State Champion CK Lacrosse Team and a 1st Team All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes State Runner-Up Ice Hockey Team. Angie Wiater CK’18 is in her junior season on the Mammoths Lacrosse Team of Amherst. Last spring, the season was suspended due to COVID before Angie could join the team after hockey season. In her freshman season, Amherst defeated Bowdoin in the NESCAC quarterfinals and fell to top ranked Middlebury in the NESCAC semifinal.
Angie was an All-American, Academic All-American, Academic All-State, 2nd Team All-State, All-Catholic League and Academic All-Catholic League member of the CK Girls Lacrosse Team. Angie played for 4 State Championships for Cranbrook, (winning two in 2017 and 2018). Angie was also a member of the National Champion 16 U AAA Hockey Team in 2017. Jessica Geiger CK’19 is in her redshirt freshman season playing lacrosse for the Hokies of Virginia Tech. Jess was an 1st Team All-State, Academic All-State, Honorable Mention All-State, two-time All- Catholic League and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the CK Lacrosse Team. Jess was also 2nd Team All-State, All-Catholic League, MVP and captain of the CK Field Hockey Team. Davis Schiller CK’18 is in his junior season playing lacrosse for the Falcons of the Air Force Academy. Last season was suspended due to COVID. In his freshman season, the Falcons claimed a share of the Southern Conference regular season title and in the Conference Championships, lost to Richmond 7-6. Davis was a two-time captain, All American, All-State, and All- Catholic League member of the CK Lacrosse Team. Davis was also a varsity letter winner on the Cranbrook Ice Hockey Team. Lawson Brophy CK’19 is in his redshirt freshman season playing lacrosse for the Mammoths of Amherst. Last season was suspended due to COVID. Lawson was a 2nd Team All-State, two-time All- Catholic League, Academic All-Catholic League, and All-League captain of the Cranes lacrosse Team. Lawson was also a two-time 2nd Team All-State, two- time Academic All-State, All-Region, All-Division, All-Region, CHSL Giant Slalom and Slalom Champion, two-time All- Catholic League and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the Cranbrook Ski Team. Max Christides CK’19 is in his redshirt freshman season playing lacrosse for the River Hawks of U Mass Lowell. Last season was suspended due to COVID. Max was a 2nd Team All-State, 3rd Team All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the CK Lacrosse Team.
Connor Toomey CK’19 is in his redshirt freshman season playing lacrosse for the Garnet of Swarthmore. Last season was suspended due to COVID. Connor was a 1st Team All-State and All-League captain of the Cranbrook Lacrosse Team. Connor was also an All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Football Team. James Feord CK’20 is in his freshman season playing lacrosse for the Mocs of Florida Southern. Nate Moll CK’18 is in his junior season playing squash for the Middlebury College Panthers. Nate earned NESCAC All-Academic honors. Last season, Nate helped his team beat Hamilton in the opener. The Panthers advanced to the Championship of the Summers Cup after defeating Navy and Amherst and finished 3rd in the NESCAC Championships. Nate competed in the #5 position and helped his team with victories over Navy In his freshman season, the Panthers finished 3rd in the NESCAC Championships and Nate finished the season with a strong 11-3 record. Hugh Camiener CK’19 is in his sophomore season playing squash for the Lions of Columbia. Last season, Hugh helped the Lions earn victories over Columbia, Fordham, and NYU. Hugh is competing in the 8th position. Last season, Hugh posted a 7-5 record in the number nine spot and finished the season with a four-match winning streak. Hugh won all three matches at the CSA Team National Championships to help Columbia win the Hoehn Cup at the CSA Team National Championships. Hugh had a career high #5 ranking while at Cranbrook and earned a US Squash Scholar Athlete Award.
Benji Jacobson CK’18 is in his redshirt sophomore season playing tennis for the Green Wave of Tulane University. Last season, Benji had wins over Texas Tech at Jackson State at 3 doubles and posted a 5-8 overall record at singles. In his freshman season, Benji was redshirted and Tulane fell to Temple in the American Conference Championship Quarterfinals. Benji was honored by the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation as the 2017-18 Male High School Athlete of the Year! This award was based on outstanding athletic achievement by a Jewish high school athlete and presented in conjunction with Detroit Jewish News. Benji was a two-time captain of the State Champion Boys Tennis Team. Benji was a three-time All-American, three-time All-County, four-time All-State and two-time All-Catholic League tennis player. Benji was a two-time Regional and State Champion at #1 singles, Regional and State Champion at #2 singles as a sophomore and a Regional and State Runner-Up at #1 singles as a freshman. Benji was a Finalist for the Detroit Free Press Tennis Player of the year. Benji was a member of the 2015, 2016, and 2017 State Championship Teams and the 2014 State Runner-Up team. Jordan Benson CK’19 is in his sophomore season running track for the Wildcats of Davidson. Last season, Jordan placed 6th in the 60-meter hurdles, 11th at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships before the season was cancelled due to COVID. Jordan was a two-time All-State, Regional and CHSL Hurdle and High Jump Champion and All-Catholic Team captain of the CK Track Team. Jordan was also a Detroit News All-North and All-Catholic League member of the Cranbrook Basketball Team.
