St. Thomas More Catholic Parish & School Fourth Sunday of Lent u March 22, 2020 “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.” Luke 23:28 PATIENCE Christ Carrying the Cross by Titian, 1565
SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 2020 pastor’s note As we come to the Fourth Sunday of Lent, the weekend when we use Rose colored vestments to signify joy, we seem to be anywhere but there in our Church and world events. We have entered into a new stage of limitations, restrictions and expectations. But remember, we often don’t see what the Lord is doing, even now, in answer to our prayers. In our Mass prayers of the faithful, we often pray for leaders to have the wisdom and courage to make decisions not just for some, but for all people. Who would have imagined what the leaders of the world are having to do in these days. I too am learning how to manage things like our parish Facebook connection to see the Mass livestreamed. I do know that even if I cannot see it live, the event is available later to watch. So you should be able to at least bring the Mass into your daily routine. We are also going to have a video on how to best connect to the various opportunities. Please watch Flocknote for that. One thing that we might all do together is daily pray the prayer to Our Lady of Monte Berico. It is a prayer to Our Lady as intercessor and protector in moments of plague. It dates back several centuries to a place in Italy that was suffering for about a hundred years from plague until Our Lady appeared and asked for the local villagers attention and response. You can look the information up on the internet. I would encourage you to let this be a part of your daily prayers for the foreseeable future. It goes like this: Novena to Our Lady of Monte Berico O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of God and my Mother Mary, I thank you that you have deigned to appear on Monte Berico and I thank you for all the graces you grant here to those who turn to you. Nobody ever prayed to you in vain. I, too, resort to you and beg you for the Passion and Death of Jesus and for your pains: welcome me, o’ merciful Mother, under your mantle, which is a maternal mantle; grant me the particular grace that I ask of You [Protection and healing from the Coronavirus for all members of our Catholic schools and Churches in the Archdiocese of Denver, and all citizens of our city, state, country and world] and protect me from all evil and especially from sin which is the greatest evil. Oh make, oh Mary, my Mother, that I always enjoy your loving protection in life and even more in death and then come to see you in heaven and to thank and bless you forever. Amen. Madonna of Monte Berico, pray for us. O sweet Virgin, pious mother of love, Like this Ave rising from the heart. Ave, ave, ave, Maria Ave, ave, ave, Maria O Virgin, shine as a star in the sky, Motherly defend your faithful children. Ave, ave, ave Maria Ave, ave, ave, Maria I cannot say often enough, it is important to know that the Lord is with us, even in these trying times. And we are called to help others to see and know His presence and comfort. So let us keep that always before us in our daily prayers, attitudes and actions. God bless and strengthen you and be with you forever. – Msgr. Tom 2
