SPORT BIRMINGHAM ROLE DESCRIPTION Job Title: Active Communities Workforce Coordinator Location: Sport Birmingham Offices (With flexible working across Birmingham and Solihull) Responsible to: Workforce Manager & Active Communities Workforce Steering Group Contract type: 12 month contract (view to extension subject to funding) Salary: £22,000-26,000 per annum, plus 9% employer pension contribution offered (subject to passing probation successfully) Hours: 37 hours per week (evening and weekend work may be required) Additonal info: Part-time, job share and secondment will be considered BACKGROUND Local Delivery Pilots are a strategic investment by Sport England, which aim to understand how we can best help people get active in their communities improving their health, wellbeing and resilience. More information can be found at: https://www.sportengland.org/campaigns-and-our- work/local-delivery Active communities is a partnership of Birmingham City, Solihull MBC and The Active Wellbeing Society. Workforce is a work stream that sits under the system change work package. The project aims to create a suitable, viable and representative workforce who are able to support pre- contemplators, those who may not be ready to participate in physical activity or health improvement programmes, but need to build confidence and resilience prior to taking such steps into lifestyle change. The workforce project will support a number of work packages across the whole of the Local Delivery pilot. Vision for Workforce – Supporting the new and existing workforce to co-create safe and sustainable spaces that welcome the least active to participate, connect and collaborate. The focus is to deliver the four pillars as established in the workforce plan. This includes: provide training, knowledge and peer learning for individuals, organisations and communities (based on demand and consultation). The project will develop long term impact measurement and evaluation to demonstrate effectiveness and return on investment. It will be critical to evidence improved quality in provision, customer service and crucial in cutting through the barriers to enable people to enjoy physical activity and build healthy and resilient communities.
SPORT BIRMINGHAM JOB PURPOSE To provide a Workforce Coordinator role as part of the workforce group across Birmingham and Solihull aimed at getting people more socially and physical active. The post holder will link with the wider Active Communities work streams across Birmingham and Solihull, Wellbeing Centre’s and (statutory and non-statutory) providers within the education and the community settings. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist the Project Manager in the planning, managing, operating, reviewing and evaluating all aspects of the work stream in order to achieve the agreed outcomes and objectives. Work the wider team including Cluster Managers, LCANs and Community Activators to ensure there is a comprehensive understanding of all the needs of each locality. To establish and support the Project Manager in effective communication with the workforce Project Steering Group. To support and implement the Workforce pillars (skills garage, operating standards, volunteering, employability and leadership). To support consultation and engage with the local community in the planning, implementation and evaluation of workforce initiatives. To make recommendations for changes in practice and feedback across the all relevant work streams. Providing regular reports detailing the progress of the project. To feedback to the Project Manager on the on-going development, monitoring and evaluation of the programme, highlighting any issues that need resolving. To recruit and support volunteers, where applicable, identify and signpost relevant training opportunities To keep records of work and adhere to confidentiality, information sharing protocols and provide monitoring information as required. To undertake research into current policies, trends, practices, legal requirements as appropriate to the job and attend relevant training courses, seminars and conferences as directed. To comply with organisational Data Protection Policy and to protect the health, safety and welfare of yourself and others. To work flexibly as required by the service and to take part in organisation meetings and events to promote, support and celebrate the work of the service and the partners.
SPORT BIRMINGHAM PERSONAL SPECIFICATION - SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE An ability to engage citizens of all social and demographic backgrounds equally. Experience of facilitating and supporting groups in a collaborative way with communities including knowledge of co-creation techniques. Skills and experience of providing empowering support to communities/adults in a planned and structured way. Experience of supporting, training, supervising, motivating and developing volunteers to ensure a high-quality service that meets the needs and promotes positive outcomes for individuals and the wider community. Proven skills in collating information and data on resources and organising these in up-to-date and accessible formats for a range of different service users from various communities. Excellent record keeping skills and the proven ability to write comprehensive reports for a variety of stakeholders. Excellent IT skills and ability to do own administration using data base, Microsoft office and online portals, and other IT packages. A confident and professional approach to working with a variety of stakeholders. Excellent written, verbal, listening and presentation skills. A proven understanding of safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults and ability to implement relevant policies and procedures The ability to work autonomously where needed and to plan, prioritize work under pressure and adapt to new models of working A commitment to equal opportunities and an understanding of the impact on individual’s, families’ and communities’ health and deprivation. Ability to work hours in a flexible way, including occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service.
