ABC NJ Excellence in Construction 2014 Awards Introduction The Associated Builders and Contractors of New Jersey is pleased to announce the Excellence in Construction Awards Competition. The competition is an opportunity to have your project(s) join other Merit Shop projects and be recognized by the ABC as the “Best of the Best” in the construction industry. In doing so, the goal is to create greater awareness by the State of New Jersey of the quantity and quality of work being produced by the ABC NJ members and continue to raise the standards throughout the construction industry. Eligibility The competition is open to any ABC NJ general contractor or subcontractor in good standing (dues for the 2014 have been paid). To be eligible for the 2014 Excellence in Construction Awards Competition, commercial/industrial/institutional projects must be completed between January 1, 2012 – September 1, 2014. Each entry and binder must meet the requirements listed below the under Judging Criteria and be received in the ABC NJ office no later than September 12, 2014 and be accompanied with the $200 entry fee for each project submitted. Judging is September 24, 2014.
Recognition of Winners Winners will be recognized at our Awards Dinner on October 29, 2014 EIC Judging Criteria The panel of judges is non-ABC NJ members from a cross section of the industry including owners, architects and other construction professionals. Judges will base their decisions on note books and onsite visits. Projects are judged on a points system with a maximum of 100 points and a minimum of 70 points to win an award. Point System Description of Project 20 Points a. Building Name b. Building Type (commercial/industrial/residential) c. New/Remodeled/Restored (list one) d. Date construction began e. Date construction completed f. Number of stories g. Total building cost/contract h. Total square feet Note for subcontractors: the entire project does not have to be completed for you to submit your work as long as your portion has been completed within the January 1, 2012 – September 1 2014 time frame and list the cost of your contract. Narrative (maximum two pages) 30 points Describe your project using some of the following information with innovative programs relating to personnel management, teamwork, quality control, scheduling, value engineering, etc., to make it award winning. How was your part of the project completed in a timely and cost effective manner
Safety (maximum two pages) 20 points a. How did you facilitate safety on this project? b. Table of contents / Index of company Safety Manuel (if applicable) c. What is your EMR? d. Reported injuries on this project Photographs 10 points a. 20 color photographs of the project with project names, company name, entry category and a brief description of what the photo represents -- the file must be a jpeg or tiff, at least 720x480 pixels and 300dpi. b. Digital pictures required on CD in addition to the photos in the notebook Endorsements 20 points Letters of thanks and or commendation

ABC NJ Excellence in Construction 2014 Awards Binder Tip Sheet Reminder: The competition is open to any ABC NJ general contractor or subcontractor in good standing (dues for the 2014 year have been paid). To be eligible for the 2014 Excellence in Construction Awards Competition, commercial/industrial/institutional projects must be completed between January 1, 2012 – September 1, 2014. Entry Forms & Binders Due: September 12th, 2014 Entry Fee: $200 per entry Judging Day: September 24th, 2014 Binder Materials Please read carefully. All completed materials and payment are due by September 12th, 2014. NO entry materials will be accepted after this date, no exception. Incomplete binders or incorrect binders will be disqualified. • Only entries on the downloaded Word forms will be accepted and included in notebooks. Please use plain white paper only and make all form legible. Do not change forms to fit company letterhead. • Each entry must be submitted in a 1-inch three ring binder. • Use tabbed dividers to separate each section outlined below. • Judging will be taking place at the ABC Offices on September 24th. Judges will be judging the binders that are submitted and pictures that are proved with the binders. A representative of the project that is submitted should
be able to attend judging day to answer any questions the judges may have about the project. o All representatives may have additional material to hand to the team of judges pertaining to the project. Binder Sections I. Copy of Initial Entry Form II. Directions from ABC NJ Chapter Office (414 River View Plaza, Trenton, NJ. ) to the project site or to your office if your project is unable to have access or is over an hour and half away from the office. III. Description for Judging Day – Please be as specific as possible and concentrate on construction aspects, not design features. Please highlight any unique features or challenges your company faced when completing the project. The judges will be able to read this to review your project of judging day. IV. Owner’s Letter of Recommendation – you must submit an owner’s letter of recommendation for the project you are entering. V. Safety Section – This sheet can be downloaded from the website. Complete the safety questions. This section is worth 20 points. Please place other required material from the Safety form behind the form. VI. Photographs a. Maximum of 20 color photographs of the project with project names, company name, entry category and a brief description of what the photo represents -- the file must be a jpeg or tiff, at least 720x480 pixels and 300dpi. b. VII. Contractor/Supplier List – A list of all sub-contractors and material suppliers on each project must be included. The list should include each company name, address, phone number, fax number, website, email and contact person with a brief description of type of work performed ( i.e. drywall, concrete, masonry, lumber supplier, etc.) This list should include ABC Members and non-ABC members. VIII. Brief Description – This is for the video at the banquet. Please write a brief description, maximum of thirty (30) words, for our awards script. ABC NJ Excellence in Construction 2014 Awards Safety Sheet The safety score is worth 20 Points of the final total score of the project entered. This form must be completed by the person responsible for the safety of the project. Please fill this information out as completely as possible.
